I remember you subbing to this chap a while back.

I like his style.

Also, this method is far superior and labour saving than my diggy way of thinking.
I was just two days ago looking at an attachment to a tractor I am at that saves time when digging them up.....but this way! Who needs a tractor?

I did it a few weeks ago in about20old pots with soil I used to grow weed in during summer.

Not only am I looking forward to some potatoes but I wonder if it will restore some nutrients in the soil. Even though I live in spain its been a bit cold lately and not much has happend with the sputs so far but I am sure they will be once it warms up a bit

Interesting fact : did you know that any old potato is a seed potato when it starts sprouting roots, you don't actually have to go out and buy seed potatoes at garden centres at extravagant prices.

I want to talk about potatoes now. Did you know that every potato you eat is the descendant of one country only : Peru. Originally, they grew on no other part of the planet, before their discovery by Portugese, Italian, Spanish and English sailors who bastardised the Peruvian term Batata to potato. The Aztec Empire are credited as the inventors of instant mashed potato, sun drying shredded potatoes for storage, later mixing them with boiling water to form a dish known as Chuno. This recipe was not rediscovered in the West until Dutch Canadian Chemist Edward Asselbergs developed freeze dried potato granules in 1962. Cadbury's Smash instant mashed potato was originally developed for use by the military and campers only, now sell 140 million units of Smash per year to households everywhere.

Following their introduction to Europe , potatoes were chiefly used as animal feed before French King Louis XVI deemed potatoes fit for the Royal menu and hence fit for human consumption. Walter Raleigh was accused for witchcraft for planting a Spanish imported potato plant in his garden. Potatoes now grow in every country of the world except the polar regions.

My favourite potato is the Rooster potato for its firm, floury quality ideal for baking, mashing, roasting or crinkle chipping.

A cut half potato is a useful tool for removing a broken lightbulb.

A popular dish bangers and mash ( sausages with mashed potato) derives it name from First World war squaddie slang of the meal's resemblance to the sighting of Zeppelins amongst clouds.

Winston is a nice white fluffy spud lovely for jackets and a good yeild

Chop and fry 1 onion with 1.2 teaspon of ropsemary
let it cool then add chopped plum toms give it a good stir.
boil about 3 large potatoes chopped about 2 inch cubes
Once boiled, drain then gently mix the onion and toms, rosemary with it.

Make some pastey in a deep dish part bake it only then put the potatoe filling in it them grate lots of cheese on top and put in the oven on mark 4 till cheese is crispy.

Potatoes are ace.
When I was a kid I buried one in the ground cos it had roots growing from it, And some months later I dug it up, and as if by magic, there were loads of potatoes there. They were the best tasting postoes I ever ate, and there were loads of them.

You know the one thing which amazes me is that you can still get tinned potatoes from supermarkets for about 15p- 20p a big tin. They taste fine, all pre-boiled, if you're feeling lazy, that is.

I bought some....and they tasted bloody awful to be honest.
But what do I do with the other 40 tins ? Good for a rainy day I suppose.

Sadly, I no longer eat them. I have two plants in the garden self sown. They grow themselves here.

PS: did you know that they are now putting bis-phenols inside the tins to stop them from going rusty.

I love the red waxy ones. They are the best all-rounders. You can fry and roast them until the look translucent! However, they flare up my arthritis, as do tomatoes which are another one of my favourite things so its sweet potato for me now which I really find too sweet.

When I do mash I use the cream from the raw milk and add butter, when I have mashed it up I put under the grill to go crispy brown.
I take it out the mash it again and bury all the crispy bits and place under the grill to go crispy brown again.

Oh boy I love it.
