Council tax rise blamed on Jimmy Savile sex probe

Council tax rise blamed on Jimmy Savile sex probe as police demand more resources to deal with abuse investigations
Reports of abuse have risen in wake of scandal, police commissioner says
Norfolk commissioner says force needs more resources in order to cope
Tax-payers in Norfolk will see their bills go up by £3.65 from April

A council tax hike has been blamed on paedophile DJ Jimmy Savile by a new police commissioner, who claims revelations about the late TV star have seen reports of sex abuse soar.
Stephen Bett - who became police and crime commissioner in Norfolk in November - said the Savile scandal had given victims the confidence to come forward and report crimes dating back years.
He said Norfolk Police needed more resources in order to deal with the growing workload, and householders in the county are set to see their council tax bills go up in April after the commissioner had a proposed increase approved

He said the extra cash would be put towards 10 more frontline staff helping to man the force's Vulnerable People Directorate, which deals with allegations of abuse towards children and vulnerable adults.
'People are happy to come forward and talk to police because of what happened with the Jimmy Savile enquiry,' he said.
'Because people have come forward other victims have felt confident to come forward and report their experiences many years ago.
'It is the same with domestic violence and rape,' he said, adding that the force was trying to follow up all allegations and accusations as growing numbers of people come forward.
'That is the main reason that the council tax will be going up,' said Mr Bett.
'We are putting 10 new officers in the vulnerable people's unit.'
Scotland Yard says 214 criminal offences have now been recorded against Savile across 28 police forces nationwide.
The television star abused his victims at 14 medical sites including hospitals, mental health units and even a hospice.

Do you think the public are there to plunder

for work you refused to do at the start of his allegations

Why don't you take it from his late estate fund which

must be in the millions since everybody who was anybody

in the 1970's gave so much to his charities .... what the hell

crimes are the cops investigating that they cant fund child abuse ?

Council tax rise blamed on Jimmy Savile sex probe Cover Up operation.

Why don't they go to McAlpine and ask him to donate his substantial payouts.

I agree with what the commissioner says.
You can take peoples council tax increase ( and refund them any difference ) from the previous years that they paid when the police didn't investigate cases of abuse properly.

If they don't or won't and do increase it then the commissioner and the council should sign legal documents saying that council tax will be reduced once they have finished their abuse investigations.
