Reference to the Reptilians in The Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy

i should have posted this a long time ago...

in the book, a space-ship has just landed on earth, and a robot emerges from it...

Quote:

“I come in peace,” it said, adding after a long moment of further grinding, “take me to your Lizard.”

Ford Prefect, of course, had an explanation for this ...

“It comes from a very ancient democracy, you see…”

“You mean, it comes from a world of lizards?”

“No,” said Ford, who by this time was a little more rational and coherent than he had been, having finally had the coffee forced down him, “nothing so simple. Nothing anything like so straightforward. On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people.”

“Odd,” said Arthur, “I thought you said it was a democracy.”

“I did,” said ford. “It is.”

“So,” said Arthur, hoping he wasn’t sounding ridiculously obtuse, “why don’t the people get rid of the lizards?”

“It honestly doesn’t occur to them,” said Ford. “They’ve all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they’ve voted in more or less approximates to the government they want.”

“You mean they actually vote for the lizards?”

“Oh yes,” said Ford with a shrug, “of course.”

“But,” said Arthur, going for the big one again, “why?”

“Because if they didn’t vote for a lizard,” said Ford, “the wrong lizard might get in. Got any gin?”

make of this what you will

one thing's for sure, Adams knew a lot more than he let on.

its no coincidence that the hitchhikers guide was made into a movie and they've just made a t.v series from his other book, 'Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency' starring Elijah Wood.

Ha ... that's very interesting ... not just because lizards are brought up , we might expect that anyway in a sci-fi ET novel ...

It's the description of the political system and the way the lizards rule the humans , it's a precise picture of what we have on Earth ...

Many creative writers are intuitive , he may have , unknown to himself , just stumbled on the truth .

well you'd expect aliens in a sci-fi novel, but not necessarily reptilian aliens.

they could've been... rhino aliens, cat aliens, bird aliens, etc. any number of different types of animals could have been used.

the author chose reptilian aliens for a reason.

in my experience, there is no such thing as coincidence

The over-riding theme in Hithhikers Guide was that the Earth is a construct, built in order to understand the greatest questions of why we are here and what's it all about then, eh?

Douglas knew a lot, that's for sure.

He also said that Mice run the whole show

Rodents running the whole show, whooda thought?
