The Biden administration and credulous journalists claimed that this would in no way increase audits for those making under $400,000 annually—suspect assurances not provided within the text of the actual bill. This increased capacity meant only those at the top would be targeted, supporters insisted. But this ignores how the IRS’s incentives work and how agencywide reform might be too heavy of a lift. Correspondence audits—which are conducted via mail, and are the type frequently used when interacting with the poorest of taxpayers—are much easier and cheaper to conduct than other types of audits. Plus, the earned income tax credit is easy to get wrong. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that new hires with experience in the field will take almost three years of ramp-up time, with more junior new hires taking longer. The lag time between 2022’s infusion of funding, and legitimately increased capacity, will be enormous—if the agency can even snag the best in the industry when TurboTax and H&R Block will surely be swelling their own ranks. This means that, contrary to the misinformation from opponents of this legislation, small business or households earning $400,000 per year or less will not see an increase in the chances that they are audited. Although Yellen promised to not increase the proportion of audits for those earning under $400,000 beyond historical levels, that pledge is not enshrined in law. In February, Sen. Recent footage of her act, taken at the Honor Oak pub in Lewisham, South-East London, shows a lively audience whooping their approval as ‘Copper’ gyrates provocatively on the floor before hitching her skirt to the waist and thrusting her crotch back and forth. Not everyone is thrilled by the spectacle, however: in one corner of the makeshift stage, a small girl — no more than three — looks on with what can only be described as puzzlement. You might wonder, of course, why the baffled-looking toddler is there at all. Wasn’t it past her bedtime? Far from it: this was a ‘family friendly’ drag show hosted at 11am on a Saturday morning, a time when many parents can more usually be found shivering in the local playground. Copper Topp — the name, while commonly slang for a person with red hair, also refers to a lewd sex act — was performing at a ‘bottomless drag brunch’. For £25 a ticket, punters can treat themselves to an unending supply of prosecco cocktails, Bloody Marys, and a slice of innuendo-laden entertainment. And there’s certainly no shortage of demand: all manner of families with young children had gathered at the Honor Oak for Copper Topp’s most recent performance at the end of February — one of many similar events being held up and down the country in recent weeks. As Copper Topp gyrated in Lewisham, 40 miles away at St Mark’s Church, Southend, another drag queen by the name of Kenzie Blackheart was performing in a tight-fitting green and black corset to pews of children as part of the borough’s ‘Winter Pride’ week. Then there’s the ‘Caba Baba Rave’ — an event billed as a ‘cabaret sensory rave for parents and their babies 0-2 years’ which has been performing across London in recent months. In it, half-naked drag acts — some wearing bondage gear, thongs and nipple tassels — gyrate in front of parents bouncing babies and toddlers on their laps. The list goes on, from ‘Drag Queen Story Hour’ in local libraries and schools to ‘RuPaul’s DragCon’, a three-day event featuring drag artists such as ‘A’Whora’ and ‘Cheryl Hole’, hosted by the flamboyant presenter of the now cult reality TV series RuPaul’s DragRace UK. It took place at London’s Excel centre at the start of January, its marketing proclaiming that ‘kids eight and under’ were let in for free. That drag artists have hit mainstream light entertainment on TV is nothing new to anyone who can remember Danny La Rue, Dame Edna Everage and Lily Savage, but their rollout into public spaces and to children is unprecedented. Earlier this month, it was reported that there had been a 300 per cent increase in drag events in schools, libraries and churches in the past year alone. Not everyone is thrilled. Many events have attracted protesters who believe drag queens — known for a brand of humour that’s far more sexualised than that of Edna or Savage, with stage names such as ‘FlowJob’ and ‘Courtney Act’ — are better suited to a nightclub setting. And while often being deeply inappropriate for children, some wonder if drag acts are a Trojan Horse through which proponents smuggle into schools more politicised agendas, particularly those of trans rights. This latter issue has been brought sharply into focus this month, after it emerged that an as yet unidentified drag queen told a classroom of 11 to 12-year-olds that there were ‘73 genders’. She had been invited to give a sex education talk to Year 7 pupils at Queen Elizabeth II High School on the Isle of Man. One child raised an objection, saying there were only two genders, for which he was asked to leave the room. ‘At his young age,’ his appalled mother explained to the Mail, ‘he should not be reprimanded for believing that genders are purely male and female. It is not an appropriate punishment, nor fair.’ In a separate incident at the same school, an 11-year-old girl said she had been left ‘sick and disgusted’ by a lesson about anal and oral sex. Following an outcry by parents — and pending the results of an investigation — this new genre of sex education lessons has been suspended at Isle of Man schools, and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is now launching a review of sex education in schools. But according to James Esses, co-founder of Thoughtful Therapists, an organisation concerned about the impact of gender identity ideology on children and young people, the dramatic increase in drag performances in schools speaks volumes about the militant trans rights agenda. ‘The drag queen phenomenon has become intertwined with the obsession around diversity and inclusion,’ he says. ‘The answer to anyone who expresses any discomfort around this is to say “this is my identity”. ‘What that then means is the vast majority of people who are not comfortable with what is unfolding — whether it’s sexually charged performances in front of children, or schools bringing gender ideology into the classroom — worry they will be labelled a bigot and have the baying mob coming for them for raising perfectly reasonable objections about what is suitable for children.’ What would possess a school head to invite adult entertainers into their classroom? Advocates argue that by playing with sexual and gender norms, drag artists not only encourage self-expression but help build a more open-minded community — vital in a world where, according to 2019 research, homophobia is the lead cause of bullying in schools. Surveys repeatedly suggest LGBT youths are at a greater risk of mental health problems, self-harm and even suicide. But while the confidence of drag queens and their brightly coloured outfits might help sell an inclusive message, their highly sexualised alter egos were always going to make parents nervous. ‘It’s about content not costume,’ says Simon Fanshawe, co-founder of Stonewall, who argues drag queens shouldn’t be seen as the only way to promote diversity to children. ‘Schools need to give kids all kind of examples of people reading stories, from gay men in sports to people like Rosie the Riveter who was a cultural icon in World War II representing women working in shipyards,’ he says. School authorities would no doubt have been encouraged by the popular appeal of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK and the hit coming-of-age musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, which follows the story of a teenage boy as he pursues his dream of becoming a drag queen. Shows like these have blurred the boundaries between what was once seen as the preserve of adult entertainment and more ‘family-friendly’ fun. ‘RuPaul normalised drag, and knocked the rough edges off it,’ says Claire Loneragan from the Women’s Rights Network. ‘If you look at some of the earlier episodes, some of the language used was actually slightly dubious, misogynistic and niche. ‘Over time they got rid of all that and made it palatable — or more palatable — for mainstream audiences. So today, people now watch the show thinking it’s no different to something like The X Factor — and I think a lot of the “family friendly” drag is riding on the crest of that wave. It’s given it a veneer of respectability — but that is all it is, a veneer. Behind it, what is going on is deeply unsavoury.’ Last year, the Mail reported on the rise of Drag Queen Story Hour, a phenomenon imported from the U.S. in which drag queens host reading sessions for young children in schools and libraries. The events attracted controversy when it emerged that one of its most popular protagonists, Sab Samuel, who performs as his alter ego ‘Aida H Dee’ — a play on the neurological disorder ADHD — often performed in tight-fitting outfits through which the outline of his genitals could on occasion clearly be seen. Nonetheless, councils and schools continue to book artists for Drag Queen Story Hour, despite protests — the latest being outside The Great Exhibition pub in East Dulwich, South London, on Friday. There, a family values pressure group Turning Point UK had organised a rally against a story time event — which didn’t actually take place as its listing on the pub’s website was out of date. Still, a protest was had, and met with pro-LGBT activists. Speaking last week, Sab Samuel said there had been ‘a four-fold increase’ in the number of shows performed in the last year compared with the year before. The shows’ defenders cry ‘inclusivity’ and ‘diversity’ but that is a ‘spurious justification’, says a spokesman for the Safe Schools Alliance. ‘We don’t want to ban drag queens — but we do want to apply basic safeguarding, and we object to children being used to validate adults and the misogyny inherent in drag performances.’ In response to those who had objected to the performance by Kenzie Blackheart at St Mark’s Church, the priest, Mother Cherry Sandover, insisted: ‘This was a family show, and nothing was sexualised or inappropriate . . . St Mark’s is proud to be an inclusive church that seeks to welcome and serve LGBT+ people.’ Kenzie herself — self-styled as ‘the UK’s Nuclear Bombshell of Drag’ — suggested those who had raised objections to her performance in the church’s sanctuary in front of young children were ‘bigots’. Her presence was, she wrote on social media, about ‘representation’ for LGBTQ+ people and ‘those with different gender identities’. ‘We are here to help your children grow up with acceptance, tolerance and an open mind,’ she added, pointing out that she had even replaced her customary fishnets with opaque black tights ‘so as not to upset anyone’. In what has proved to be a customary riposte to detractors, Kenzie ended by sarcastically wishing luck to any of them who were considering buying a pantomime ticket this year. This, says James Esses, of Thoughtful Therapists, the group concerned about the impact on children of gender ideology, is a much deployed fudge. ‘Pantomime dames wear enormous flowery dresses, not bondage gear or thongs. Pantomime dames do not twerk provocatively in front of young children. ‘Drag queens occupy quite different territory . . . Some even have pages on OnlyFans, an online platform used primarily by sex workers. For kids with access to the internet and Google, it can be a portal into a very adult world.’ Claire Loneragan agrees. ‘Equating them to panto dames is an easy way to give them a family-friendly makeover: “Hey, it’s just panto.” And if it becomes sexual then activists say: “Well, the children are too young to understand it anyway.”’ That was the argument wheeled out by organisers of the Caba Baba Rave for parents and their babies, during which one cross-dressing performer with a drag name that is a pun on anal sex could be seen doing a handstand on a chair in a leopard-print thong and gloves. Following an outcry when videos of the ‘rave’ were shared on social media — by, among others, Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington, the former partner of The Hobbit star Martin Freeman — organisers Gemma Daubney and Liz West, both mums in their late 30s, cancelled a show which was meant to take place in Central London at the weekend and took down their website. Not, however, before issuing a statement in which they blamed the cancellation of their shows on ‘trolling’ by ‘people who have a problem with . . . non-binary performers’ before justifying the sexualised content on the basis that the babies are too young to know what is happening anyway. ‘It goes without saying that babies of a young age aren’t able to grasp the plot of an intricate, thought-provoking movie,’ they wrote. Not much of an argument, according to Debbie Hayton — a trans teacher who has written about her concerns about the grip gender ideology can have on primary schools. ‘The idea that you can’t understand it makes it OK is extraordinary. You wouldn’t have an adult comedian performing to infants, even though they might not “understand that”,’ she says. Levelling accusations of transphobia at those who express discomfort only highlights for Hayton the overlap between drag queens and modern trans activism. ‘It’s ironic really, because go back ten years and many transexuals used to be very uncomfortable with drag queens because transitioning was something major in our lives; many of us had taken hormones and had invasive surgery in order to try to pass as a member of the opposite sex, and these people are a parody of that,’ she recalls. ‘For many of us their appearance was an infringement of trans rights — but there has been a change of attitude and in many instances the two have been conflated. I have always struggled to call drag acts entertainment — and I now find myself shrieking about how on earth we have got to a position where we are inflicting it on our children?’ For legislators in Tennessee, that grievance has hardened into a law this month banning ‘male to female impersonators that appeals to prurient interest’ from performing in public spaces. Those in breach will be punished by a fine and/or up to a year in jail. Those ticking time bomb derivatives were then sold around the global market. Once the fed rose interest rates the poor mortgage borrowers could not afford to make their monthly payments and began to default causing those derivatives made up of bundles of the dodgy mortgages implode causing banking failures around the world. What was the punishment for those irresponsible bankers who had created those dodgy mortgages and then bundled them into derivatives? Did they go to prison? No of course not! Instead the bankers got their bonuses and the government used taxpayers money to 'bail-out' the banks thereby sending a signal to all bankers that criminal failure would be permitted, propped up and even rewarded by the government. The central banks themselves are in fact a partnership between cartels of private banks including the rockefeller chase manhatten bank (now JP Morgan Chase) and the US treasury and what did Mussolini call a merger of corporations and government: FASCISM. I don't think the left are totally wrong about the issue with putting people before profit, I just think they're solutions are totally stupid. I think you're right about the flavour of Capitalism that we have though. I guess where I often see things through a cultural lense, I'll often rant about woke capital, but I agree that the corporatism element is bad too. That being said, even though they're both materialistic to me, I obviously much prefer Capitalism than Communism, but obviously with regulation that's in consonance with the people. I like the phrase the 'sabotage of Capitalism' though, and you could probably say the sabotage of Occidental values too. They're setting the West up to be the scapegoat in my opinion, so people will want a new "solution". My colleague Jerry Cohen and I have written about the WHO’s exclusion of Taiwan despite Taiwan’s extraordinary success in containing Covid-19 (op-ed here) and Trump’s attack on the WHO for being “China-centric” and his ill-considered decision to freeze the U.S. funding to the organization (here). This blog post only focuses on how Beijing wields influence in the WHO, including its ability to block Taiwan’s participation despite the support of the United States and other democracies for including Taiwan in the WHO’s efforts. People may assume that money buys influence. If so, they would be surprised to find out that Beijing’s contribution to the WHO is actually quite paltry compared to other donors. Although China has just announced an additional $30 million grant for the WHO after Trump halted funding to the organization, that’s still a small number relative to the WHO’s budget of over $ 4 billion in 2020. So how does China exert influence in the WHO—and, more broadly, other international organizations? To answer this, we must look at the group dynamics that Beijing has been able to mobilize among other member states. Generally speaking, China—which claims to represent the interests of the global South (much of which relies on economic relations with China)—has consistently and carefully cooperated and coordinated with authoritarian governments and developing countries to ensure that important policy decisions, including the selection of leadership, in international organizations are made in line with China’s favored outcomes. For the WHO leadership, the Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus won the 2017 election with 133 votes out of 186, thanks to the backing of China as well as the African Union and countries in the Pacific and the Caribbean. Beijing reportedly “worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help Tedros defeat the United Kingdom candidate (Dr. David Nabarro) for the WHO job.” This is a textbook case of how China exercises its influences to select a favored candidate. There are similar group dynamics in other international organizations. In the Human Rights Council, for instance, Beijing has formed an influential alliance with the so-called “Like-Minded Countries”—a voting bloc often including China, Cuba, Egypt, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia and many others. Beijing has used this coalition to outvote democracies in the Human Rights Council and block decisions it disfavors, often in order to weaken international human rights norms and institutions. This kind of tribal politics is further entrenching the global North-South divide and is detrimental to the international system. In 1986, the Declaration on the Right to Development (RtD) was put forth by the UN Commission for Human Rights, and it proclaimed RtD to be “an inalienable human right by virtue of which every human person and all peoples are entitled to participate in, contribute to and enjoy economic, social, cultural and political development.” In conjunction with RtD, the concept of a New International Economic Order (NIEO) emerged, positing that an economic foundation was a necessary factor for safeguarding human rights. Taken together, the RtD and NIEO concepts created a call to action for the financial sector to play its part in global affairs. Development, after all, doesn’t come free. As such, the curtailing of investments, as well as the attainment of financial assistance, became a core focus for the UN shortly thereafter. Throughout the 1990s, earmarked contributions became not only acceptable but encouraged, and from 1994 to 2009 contributions to UN operational activities by private actors increased by over 200 percent. Pressure for the private sector to further contribute toward developmental and environmental matters is now considered common practice. It is worth noting that in 2018, over $12 trillion worth of investment funds were contingent on companies’ meeting certain environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. In 1997, in consultation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) was founded as the world’s first corporate sustainability reporting framework for tracking and reporting ESG. In relation to the GRI, the UN’s Finance Initiative, operating under the UNEP promoted throughout the early 2000s, led to the development of the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI). The PRI officially launched in 2005 and had a ripple effect leading to the creation of the Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) in 2012, and the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) in 2019 — all of which call upon firms to incorporate ESG in their financial valuations. Who Is In Involved As of 2022, the PRI has 5,179 fee-paying signatories who claim to adhere to ESG metrics and the GRI is now the top framework employed for ESG reporting. And although ESG rating and reporting services can be quite costly, it is a price that seemingly must be paid. The problem I have with this debate over capitalism vs communism (or private vs public) is that it's simplistically black and white, as if one is always better than the other. But surely it depends on the context and they both have pros and cons, so we need to play to the strengths of both. Some institutions need state control (eg the army), and even inside a private company they rely on a sense of teamwork to succeed). The neo-Druids date back to the 18th century, and were perhaps modelled on Masonic structures, and maybe not really pagan as we understand it nowadays, being originally something like a friendly society crossed with the romantic movement. It just put a fly in the ointment, so to speak. And your connecting of the New Age movement with Freemasonry joined up with my thought process. By coincidence I went to a new age fair today, and I'm slightly concerned that it's hard to tell the difference between new age and paganism. I suppose I'm after a spirituality that's grounded here in my cultural roots and landscape, but the new age is so open and porous I'm getting concerned that our local tribal paganism is selling itself out to globalism just like mainstream society. We have both spoken of the influence of sabbatean Frankism when it comes to the way the world currently looks to the truly awake. As a big fan of TNT radio these days ( using the required discernment given that some of the more recent guests and presenters are full of it ), I was fascinated to listen the other day to George Elliason, talking about how SF was essentially forged in and around the region now called the Ukraine, along with how SF stands at the very heart of this in terms of its values.
