RobinJ
I did this today on my phone and my tablet. I consider myself fairly tech savvy, but after watching a video I checked my gadgets and realised Play Store had auto updated and stuck a COVID tracing app on my phone without my knowledge!! Also here is the best advice for Iphones, though its harder with them apparently. https://www.howtogeek.com/674272/how-to-turn-off-covid-19-exposure-logging-and-notifications-on-iphone/ Here is the way to turn it off and in android devices delete it: ( apologies if this has already been posted, but many are unaware its there.) Someone2630
I have a better way, I have an OLD Nokia phone, they are welcome to try to track me with it and if it gets stolen, I still have half a dozen spares!
RobinJ
Yes Im thinking to get an old phone, but planning to get out of the UK soon assuming I still can so will need a more useful phone for a while until settled. Meanwhile, we should at least know its on the gadgets we have already.
Someone2630
The only question is, where to go to? Sweden seems to have more sense on covid, but less on Muslims, ditto, Holland. I think if I were 40 years younger, I would probably head for Russia. imo Putin is the only leader who can actually lead! Seems all the other are a bunch of utter corrupt, lying, twats.
RobinJ
Im heading to Mexico to start, if I can get out in time. Apparently the eastern europeans are not really paying much attention to the rules either. Mexico is different in each zone, but mostly non compliant. Then there are the other C Americas to play with too. Lots of land in those zones. I want to join a eco/ sustainable project, have wanted to do that for many years. Im just hoping I can get out in time before next lock down crap hits the fan.
RobinJ
Sweden would have been a possible, but is too expensive to live, although it does still have an economy! However it is now the rape capital of EU after the manufactured migrant crisis- 30% are now 'refugees' Russia would be more like jumping from one commie fire to another IMO, but I take your point about Putin. NO, I've been to Mexico, just head a bit further south and go to Belize, they all speak English there, it's a tiny country with a very small population, land is dirt cheap and its ideal for what you want to do. Plenty of Americans have gone there to escape Uncle Sam. It used to be British Honduras. Just like Mexico, be prepared for snakes, tarantulas, and scorpions. Just remember they are more afraid of you, than you (should be) of them. Go inland, not by the coast, too many hurricanes by the coast. RobinJ
Yeah I did consider Belize for the language reason, but, they were adhering very strictly to the lockdown measures, and its not really big enough for and off grid experience from what Ive seen. Theres a lot of military types in Belize too. Im not bothered by critters, I lived in Africa as a child and we ran around barefoot!
RobinJ
Just found this about COVID Belize: ( no thanks!)

Idiots. About falling off the grid - One of the locals, when I got over there got pissed out of his mind and got into his car and drove off. He ran off the main highway not far from Belmopan into the bush. They happened to find him dead in his car, almost a week later, quite by accident. Believe me, it's VERY easy to disappear in Belize! The British army have a base near Belize City, you know what the police in Africa are like . . .
RobinJ
Yeah, its too British in many ways, and too small. There are lots of off grid sites and communities in C America that are already set up. Many are in expat areas, so Ill probably start with those, assuming I can get out of UK

kestrel
If you need internet access and have a google pixel, then install grapheneOS. It removes all of googles proprietary code, does away with connecting with google servers, WiFi triangulation is removed, and it uses a replacement app store called F-Droid which provides access to open source apps. Prerequisites are an unlocked bootloader and adb and fastboot installed on your computer then your good to go. The OS is sandboxed and focuses on security... https://grapheneos.org/ ... Otherwise stick with an old Nokia 3310. Battery life lasts a week. Lulz. Edited September 25, 2020 by kestrel
