So are they still expected to follow the exact shielding guidelines like not having visitors and all that shit? Im not sure about the official shielding guidelines. But I know that they are not operating anywhere near normal and are keeping visits to an absolute minimum. Patients are asked to send in pics of skin issues etc so if the doc thinks its not a problem then the person does not need to come into surgery. You still have to phone up beforehand to discuss health and are advised to keep talking to a minimum during a face to face consultation. This to me is still shielding but maybe Im wrong there, maybe its just the 'new normal'. I think it depends upon the individual doctors themselves and the surgery as to how extreme they are taking it.
Ethel
1 minute ago, Problem child said: maybe its just the 'new normal'. I was thinking about that term. Those of us that see through all of this, I think we should all make a concerted effort to remind as many people as possible what things were like before all of this. Especially kids. It will be disturbing how quickly some people will forget, or try to forget. Kids in particular will forget the old ways super fast. It is crucial that those of us who are awakened don't let people forget the way things were before 2020.

The Illuminator
3 hours ago, Ethel said: This is a subject close to my heart. I have a massive beef with the medical profession, for reasons I won't be going into here. With the exception of Vernon Coleman, Ben Goldacre and a handful of others, I distrust all of them. In my experience I have never met one who doesn't try and hand out pharmaceuticals like sweets. Many have clear God complexes - especially surgeons. My Doctors surgery is still closed. During lockdown, I visited the surgery to collect a copy of my medical file, and the entire waiting area had been cleared of chairs, magazines, and a box of toys for the kids. It looked as though they have no intention of ever having a waiting area ever again. It is part of the overall Agenda 21/30, in this example killing people off through medical negligence. This approach has also been taken with psychology services. In my part of the country, the only people they are planning to give face to face appointments to are people who cannot get the privacy (a space to be alone) to have a phone/video appointment, i.e. virtually nobody. This too, I believe, is designed to kill off those with the most serious mental health problems, especially those with Schizophrenia or Autism, as they are generally viewed by people like Henry Kissinger as 'Feeders'. (They want them to commit suicide). This decision will have been made by someone far higher up the ladder than just a GP or psychologist. They are zombies, but not evil, unless ignorance is an evil - perhaps it is. I have long suspected this world hates people with so-called mental health conditions with a passion anyway, and this has proved it for me. No outcry. People can go and play a game of bingo, but not sit and enjoy the much needed connection of having another human being listen to them in a semi-empathetic way. God, no. Bingo is way more important. My phone appointments are continued mainly because of my reticence to plunge into the abyss. I want to tell her that I am appalled by the decision to abandon those in need, but she is in many respect a system slave to the bone, even if she is kind in other ways. The overall medical profession is just a disgusting disgrace in my eyes. Any shred of credibility they had left has vanished, for me. The sense of entitlement they are going to develop as a result of all this 'protect the NHS' crap will be terrifying, in some cases. But like I said, I am massively biased. The medical profession is capable of doing very severe damage - take my word for it. I'm out of likes Ethel. But I feel your post. I don't normally do this. But feel free to DM anytime. I am qualified to listen to any of your problems and sign post you to correct department if necessary.

Been depressed all my life. I've seen 4 mental health 'professionals' just before corona virus and none of them gave a shit. I was just given a booklet with numbers to call. The most obvious thing you would think they'd do is arrange for you to see a mental health counselor regularly, but nope. Nothing. You are left with no choice but to pay to see someone privately, but i dont have the funds for that. I self medicate, and walk my friends dog as often as i can as I love the company of animals. 2

Having been through the formal complaints process for long term medical negligence and criminality, absolutely nobody was interested. GP Practice got lawyered up as I proved the quacks wrong, the regulator (General Medical Council) twice dismissed my complaint, Care Quality Commission was as much use as a chocolate teapot as were Healthwatch, Patients Association and PALS. Last stop was the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman who thought it was OK to leave a patient heading for a coma. Yet I'm the one left with two further health conditions as a result of GPs' incompetence and nothing was done to stop this happening again. In my opinion it's not safe to go to any medical appointments unaccompanied and these should be covertly recorded for the patient's protection. Have spent over a decade following patient complaints, every month there's another scandal yet lessons are never learned. Also, more patients are speaking out on Twitter and/or writing blogs, some of which are gut wrenching. There are families who've been trying to get justice for decades yet at every turn they're lied to with their concerns dismissed. Better stop there.
Someone2630
The NHS was a good idea, but a bad result. In the old days before the NHS, people kept clear of doctors unless they were REALLY sick. I remember my mother telling me that before the NHS, you could go to a doctors surgery or Hospital Out-Patients and there would only be two or three people waiting. She said soon after the NHS was established, there were queues down the stree of people waiting for the doctor. W lived in a mining village and half of them were miners who wanted a few days off with a sick note. The sick note was usually accompanied by a bottle of poison called medicine or some poison pills. Many of the people were just plain malingerers. My own mother was a hypochondriac. Sometimes she would go to the doctor three times in a single day. She was only happy when she was sick. The doctors rubbed their hands in glee every time thay saw her. The doctors got rich. I remember when I was about 7 or eight, she had toothache and went to an NHS dentist. He refused to take out the tooth. Ït's all or none." He told her. ALL your teeth are infected. I'll pull them all and make dentures. She had all her teeth out in one day. The dentures never fit her and just caused her pain. They took every kid's tonsils out. The doctors had a ball and the malingerers bankrupted the NHS from Day One. Then came the big pharma and the fucking administrators, bean counters, officials and soon they outnumbered the doctors. The NHS has never worked properly. I have a pal over there, about 5 years ago, he needed a cataract operation. He had to wait 10 months to get to the operating theatre. They prepped him, and after sitting around for almost 2 hours they told him that the operation had been cancelled and they would make a new appointment. After the same thing THREE times. He was told that now he had glaucoma and an operation was out of the question. The ophthalmologist left or died or retired or changed careers and my friend had to see a new one. "You need cataract surgery." He was told. 6 months later they did both eyes successfully. WTF? My poor old grandmother needed hip surgery. She waited two years for an appointment then she died. eighteen months after her death, we got a letter telling her that a bed was now available. In stark contrast. I also needed cataract surgery 2 years ago. I put it off as long as I could. but I could barely see the computer screen. I went to the opthalmologist, there are quite a few around here. She checked my eyes and booked me for the operation on my right eye the following week. and the left eye 10 days later. The hospital is so clean, you can't believe it. all the nurses and doctors are white, and all Belgians. I was in and out in a couple of hours, no problems at all. The Medical Aid paid the bulk, I think that I had to pay 60+ Euros for each eye. I'm told (before the scamdemic) that folks over in the UK could demand surgery in Europe. Pity that's about the only thing that you'll miss after Brexit. I would highly recommend surgery over here.

Someone2630
This could be a GOOD thing in some ways. The doctor can't charge you for a telephone call. Unless (and it's the same over here) they are getting paid by the Govt / Pharma / Gate for every telephone call they receive. Over here you pat 27.50 Euros per visit until I think 16:00 then you pay more. I think it's 35 Euros. The still have to pay rent / mortgages, water, electricity and suchlike. WHO IS PROVIDING THEIR INCOME? It isn't the patients, because they aren't seeing any. Eau de Rodent anyone?
Haunted Universe
Man in New Zealand even as a resident and citizen u pay out your ASS for a doctors appointment. For non residents and citizens they charge you $100 for a doctors appointment, and you get mugged off if you require pain killers etc. New Zealands ambulance service is run by a CHARITY called St Johns, and you get a letter in the post after needing one demanding a $100 'mandatory donation'. If you dont pay they get a collection agency called BayCorp after you.
Nobby Noboddy
OK this "A New Law Proposal – MUST READ & TAKE ACTION" has been posted up at the main site. BUT YOU MUST MAKE YOUR OWN OBJECTION TO THE CONSULTATION TOO. By all means sign the petition BUT MAKE YOUR OWN OBJECTION ON THE GOV WEBSITE. YOU MUST DO THIS AS A PETITION IS fucking USELESS (Julian ASSange case in point) Although this vid bought the consultation to my attention, the fact it promotes a petition over doing your own action is suspect.

Your poor mother and sounds as though there was some dependency going on with her regular appointments. NHS dentists were another breed - drill and fill was their mantra meaning more fillings meant more money. That's shocking your mother having them all removed, really cruel. My complaints affects everything, when I needed surgery they deliberately made me wait even though I was in pain. Had it done privately in the end then wrote a letter of complaint to the original hospital about their waiting list. Sounds as though you receive far better treatment in Belgium, how do you pay for your health service?

Sounds as though you receive far better treatment in Belgium, how do you pay for your health service? Because I'm retired, I pay around 80 Euros per annum for basic Ziekenfonden that covers my wife and myself. If you are working, it's around 150 per annum. Basic includes dentist, doctor, opthalmologist, hospitalisation in a public ward, operations, general care. Then if you join a ziekenfond before you are 50, I think it is, you can optionally pay extra, then you get private wards. Then, it's basically BUPA, but it costs over 200 Euros per annum. If you live / work here, Ziekenfond is mandatory, there are several of them. They get money for nothing from me, if i'd had an option, I would never have signed up, but at least it paid for my cataract operation. My missus dropped a big can of something on her foot quite a few years ago, she ignored it, but it got so bad that about 3 years ago, she could barely walk. She went to our local doc, who sent her to an orthopaedic surgeon. Two weeks later she had an operation on her foot, I took her in, at 09:00 that morning and picked her up at 16:30. It took a long time to heal up, but she's fine now. There's quite a lot of Brits over here. It isn't Utopia by a LONG way, but it's a hell of a lot better than the UK. If I'd stayed in the UK we would have been sleeping in cardboard boxes by now! I will never come back.
