Dolores Cahill, Professor, University College Dublin

Prof. Cahill received her degree in Molecular Genetics from Trinity College Dublin (1989) and her PhD in Immunology from Dublin City University in 1994. She was group leader of the Protein Technology Group in the Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Genetics, Berlin, Germany (1996-2003) She co-founded a biotechnology company, Protagen AG (www.protagen.de) in Dortmund to commercialise this technology. Since 2005, she is Professor of Translational Science at the UCD School of Medicine and Medical Sciences.
Her research, publication and patent record is in high content protein/antibody arrays and their biomedical applications. Application include the characterisation of antibodies specificity (including therapeutic antibodies), biomarker discovery validation, diagnostics, assay development, protein-interaction studies, proteomics, large scale/systems biology research.
She is a member of a number of Editorial and Science Advisory and Review Boards. For the past 10 years she has been involved in policy development in the areas of science, technology and innovation, including in the EU Health, Innovation and Infrastructure. Since 2003, she is a Member of the Irish Government’s Advisory Science Council (ASC) (www.sciencecouncil.ie), appointed by the Minister for Industry, Trade and Employment. For the past ten years, she is on a number of Science Advisory & Review Boards, including for BMBF/DLR in Germany; BBSRC in the UK; Vinnova in Sweden. She has received prizes for her research, including the prestigious BMBF ‘BioFuture’ Award from the German Minister of Science. She was awarded the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS) 2009 Award for her research & its significance. Other recipients of this award include Prof. J. Craig Venter & Prof. Robert Huber.

Biography:

Prof. Dr. Dolores Cahill has completed her undergraduate studies at Trinity College, Dublin and PhD from Dublin City University. She is a world-wide renowned expert in high-throughput proteomics technology development and automation, high content protein arrays and their biomedical applications, including in biomarker discovery. Her team has achieved key breakthroughs in developing high-density protein and antibody array technologies and demonstrated their applications in biological and medical research. Prof. Cahill pioneered this research area at the Max-Planck-Institute of Molecular Genetics in Berlin, Germany, and holds several international patents in this vital field. She has received the prestigious BMBF Bio Future Award from the German Minister of Science, the Federation of European Biochemical Societies 2009 Award and co-founded Protagen AG to commercialize her discoveries. Prof. Cahill is Professor of Translational Science at the Conway Institute, School of Medicine and Medical Sciences at the University College Dublin. She has authored many publications and attended international conferences.

Research Interests:

Her research interest focuses on integration of proteomics and recombinant protein and antibody arrays and technology development to advance research programmes in the areas of Oncology, Inflammation, Neurobiology and Cardiovascular disease, collections of recombinant proteins using protein expression/cDNA library technology and its application to cell biology and biomedicine. Her team is currently developing new applications in Nanotechnology, large scale biology and developing compound - protein interaction technologies.

Go Get 'em Gal !!     Sincere thanks Lee for posting this video.    The resistance to the criminals is building minute by minute. Very encouraging to hear from Dolores about the international groups meeting and working against the crimes against humanity. 

 

The London rally was brilliant, the video of David's speech was, of course, deleted for the usual spurious reasons. That will ensure many copies will appear, so thanks for that!!  🤣
