'Major victory' for paedophiles as baffling law is passed that could see rape and sexual assault victims thrown into JAIL just for telling their stories

This is really messed up, just unbelievable.

People must ignore this manditory court order BS and keep speaking out. The ones enforcing this law must be exposed and the ones speaking out protected from this evil.

"Similar gag laws were overturned in the Northern Territory and Tasmania earlier this year as a result of #LetUsSpeak campaign."

"The law quietly came into effect in February, and now apply if charges against the offender are pending, or if there has been a conviction."

"Journalist Nina Funnell, who first reported about the gag laws for News Corp, has created a Go Fund Me fundraiser called Stop Silencing Survivors: #LetUsSpeak." https://womensagenda.com.au/latest/letusspeak-gag-laws-in-victoria-prevent-sexual-assault-survivors-from-telling-their-stories/

Great people that take these intiatives must be supported! The fear most have of "the consequenses" from the punishment the system puts on them is much less worse than they achieving their goals.

Yep, very messed up. It seems typical that they passed this while many in Victoria are focused on coronavirus and state tyranny too.

Seems to be a confused interpretation/ implimentation / draughting  of a law to protect victims and yet  another case of adding more ill conceived legislation instead of actually using the existing law correctly. The more laws the more loopholes lawyers can find - keep them simple and clear (same with taxes) bit of course a clear simple law wouldnt earn lawyers millions

For example

Maggie contacted Australian media outlets to draw attention to the lenient sentences given to paedophilles, only to learn of the new law that makes it a crime for the media to publish her name, or her fathers, as it could indirectly identify her.

The bolded bits perfectly sensible, and i completely agree with it, the media should not be allowed to publish information that could identify the victim and thus remove her anonymity.

Its the unbolded bit thats wrong - If she is identifying herself why should that be an issue she is choosing to waive anonymity. I can understand it if her speaking risks others being identified (who wish to remain anonymous), but thats either a very poor piece of legislation - or the newspapers really miss understood the rules

What a disgraceful and disgusting world we live in. These Politicians need serious karma payback for their actions. They can change laws to protect themselves and get away with it. I hope people turn against all this utter shite going on in the world.
