They do still promote some negative crap, but they're not as shady as most recent rappers. It's weird, because even though I kind of turned my back on a lot of hip hop as I started seeking out more wholesome music, I still have more respect for old school rappers because they at least acted masculine, and didn't sound like braindead pill popping weirdos. Still some soulful hip hop out there, always has, always will. I recommend, if you haven't already, this album: I'm not suggesting the topics of these songs are wholesome, but there is a message in some of these songs, not all, but my example above being prime. Those lyrics are profound for this moment in time. Plus, wu tang were independent so weren't co-opted by industry influence and retained artist integrity, I have respect for these guys for not selling out.
