Chef
Recently got back into gaming during the lockdown after nearly a decade away from it. All these new games look great handle poorly in my opinion well the ones I played anyway. I've started replaying the ones from my era, Final fantasy mainly (XV was dissapointing despite looking fantastic) I feel like giving the I-VI era a try after being a snob about them as a teen.

Like movies and music, I find it hard to concentrate on games to the point where I can sit and play them for hours as I feel like I'm wasting my life away. I'm a hobbyist developer that is mainly interested in how games are made these days. Unfortunately that is also what took the joy out of gaming a bit for me. Once you see the smoke and mirrors that are used to create games it's hard to get immersed in them again. I find myself being overly critical of them instead of having fun. I just sit there looking for flaws in the AI, models, textures and lighting etc. My favourite games from the last couple of generations in gaming have mainly been first person shooters, but not the mindless run and gun stuff like Call of Duty where you can be a one man army. I'm more into stuff that requires teamwork like Battlefield where each player has their unique role like medic, recon, assault and engineer etc. I have a soft spot for simple retro games too that put engaging gameplay over narrative. Too many games these days seem to focus on story over engaging gameplay and it does my head in. I also like strategic games like Command and Conquer and Civilization that require me to think. I like survival games like Rust too, but they require such a big time investment that I rarely play them now. Never really tried Destiny, but I did download Destiny 2 the other day as it's now free to play. I need to give that a try. @EnigmaticWorld thread here for gaming. (just noticed, you want your account deleted, why ? ) i used to have a spectrum, sega game gear, sega mega drive, sega mega CD and the first playstation. used to love games like the dizzy (the wee egg) series on the spectrum and football games. actually loved most games on the spectrum. other ones that stick out to me are renegade, international karate and a football manager game. the same goes for the mega drive and mega CD, used to play a whole variety of games but when the PS came out i only wanted to play FIFA and football games and totally stopped playing any other game. i just watched as others played. even now on my mates PS4 i just play FIFA. i don't own any consoles any more (well i think i might have a battered spectrum and mega drive in the attic) oh and shit yeah, championship manager on the PC that took up a lot of my childhood. Don't have much interest in VR, but this news was a joke. Just another way to keep people trapped on Fb. Oculus VR: You will not be able to log in without a Facebook account https://www.laptopmag.com/news/oculus-vr-you-will-not-be-able-to-log-in-without-a-facebook-account Not sure how well HTC Vive is doing these days and whether they're still a big competitor. EnigmaticWorld
One of my favourite games from over the last few years. Set in a 2020 dystopian London. Easy to pick up, but hard to master, just how I like it. Also made in Bromley. The basic framework of the game was great, but Splash Damage made some silly monetizing decisions. The game has a strong emphasis on teamwork and when games went down to the last few tickets and your team clutches that win it felt great. Nope. This is false. The advice is to never connect facebook to your occulus account unless you practice an active electronic security policy. If you dont then the chances are you will lose purchases for occulus if you leave facebook. This story from the internet is probably created by facebook marketing teams who want oculous users hooked into their platform at the earliest opportunity.

Splash Damage have worked with the Wolfenstein and Quake franchises, so they're from that generation. Steph
Electronic Arts were always second rate rubbish until Fifa then they turned into a captalistic monster but to be fair, Fifa was (is?) always bleeding edge graphics. When you can sit down near a screen and not realise its CGI. That was an incredible moment in history EA Sports played a big role in and it was great entertainment. Have you seen what the technology is being used for today. I kid you not, there are websites that produce videos of Tony Blair up close saying anything you want 'it' to say. Now Kayleigh McEneny... bet theres some great porn on those occulous rift devices.
EnigmaticWorld
DICE are a good studio, but they have gone downhill. On the whole I'm not a big fan of EA though. I don't really understand my friends and family that grind for packs on Ultimate Team, then they do the exact same thing the next year. Seems very repetitive, but that being said, I'm not sure how you can innovate much with sportsball games.
