I am being constantly harassed at the moment by my utility company to get a smart meter installed. Text messages every other day. Last week a chance to win  £1,500 if i had one installed. Friday 3 phone calls from different numbers to install a smart meter.

Anyone else having a lot of pressure to get one installed. Its like they are getting desperate now. Makes me feel it is going to be used as a tool later down the line, maybe switching peoples power off if they dont comply with something in the new stassi state that is being created.

One of my parents is getting inundated  with letters from E-ON at the moment. Thinking of switching him. I've already complained to them once about the harassment.

I too have been harassed.

Constant emails and letters about installing smart meters at my property.

I have emailed and emailed and emailed over and over explaining my position that I do not want them.

It got to the point where I received a letter giving me an installation date!!!

I got on the phone and in no uncertain terms explained my anger.

I followed it up with the shittiest of emails.

I received an apology and haven't heard anything since.

Fuckers...  :0(

They forced one on us 😞

Fell behind a bit with payments and then BAM!

Horrible things.

@Alnitak

I suggest that you reject it and tell them to go and fk themselves up the backside .. .or something polite maybe.

I was on uswtich the other day and noticed that British Gas had a good offer on, but required a Smart Meter within 12 months.
So I elimated them.
On uswitch there is an option to show offers that are not directly connected to uswitch (i.e. you have to go to website directly instead of uswtich doing it for you) ... from which I found Yorkshire Energy which had amazing prices and switched over.   No Smart Meter required.

Smart Meters as well as Water Meters will without doubt cause you to have much higher bills and shaft you in a million ways.
It's got that feeling about it.
Resist with all your might.

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2020/06/smart-meter-installation-delayed-by-six-months/

Quote

Energy firms will have an extra six months to install smart meters due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the Government has said.

Last September, the deadline for all homes to be offered smart meters was extended from 31 December 2020 to the end of 2024, but this has now been pushed back to 30 June 2025. The Government is currently consulting on exactly how the deadline will work, with the possibility that fines could be levied against firms that don't meet targets.

Energy suppliers are still supposed to take "all reasonable steps" to install smart meters in all homes and small businesses by the end of 2020 if they can. But the Government has put back the date for this too, to allow for difficulties caused by coronavirus, with firms now given until 30 June 2021.

I called Eon a few weeks back to check my tariff. Said I could have a better tariff if I changed over to a smart meter. I said "so you're basically forcing people to change over". They said "we aren't forcing people". I didn't change over. I was with the Co op before. Any better I don't know!

Smart meters can cause one to be overcharged if they are unable to send their data back. If the signal does not get through you will get an estimated bill and automaticlly thinking you have a smart meter, nothing can go wrong and the readings must be accurate, you pay the bill.    I came across someone who had a smart meter, in town, but in a poorish phone signal area and the meter was installed inside a 1950's metal electrical encolsure with the circuit breakers etc.  It turned out, even though the owners had not increased their electrical consumption, over the previous years, they had in 2 years paid £800 more than their actual usage, due to estimation.

mnn I remember SSE was pestering people frequently.

I sent a temp letter which I downloaded from https://stopsmartmeters.org.uk/dont-smart-meter-me-notice-of-non-consent-for-smart-meter-installation/

Your rights here. https://stopsmartmeters.org.uk/dont-smart-meter-me-notice-of-non-consent-for-smart-meter-installation/

Everyone has a different set-up of meter but if you can, I would paint the box containing it, not the actual meter, with black metalic anti-EMF paint and leave it at that. If utility company complains that it's not sending signals, tell them that they should revert back to the traditional meter. lol

Im not bowing down to it but it is getting on my wick, got enough cold callers on the phone as it is without being pushed into a smart meter. Im not doing it and i did make it clear and it seems to have stopped for now. I said i had safety concerns and the person on the line said oh no there are no health issues with smart meters. Im not convinced, i like your emf paint idea @chocomel if i ever move to somewhere with one.

So does the big brotherment have a target that has not been met about installing smart meters? Are we not acquiescing to their will to impose 24/7 control on our energy consumption.

I’ve always wondered how the hell I can save money using a smart meter. I use the energy I require, no more no less. Obviously. If I want to save money I’ll do something that doesn’t require energy. I still need to cook my food properly unless I want to risk illness. Also smart meters use a small amount of energy, so my current bill would actually go up. Pointless gimmick to keep people worrying.

always thought if it was really about environment/ global warming that government could legislate the problems away in ten minutes.

Yikes! That's absolutely shocking.

Thanks for letting me know.

I kept fighting against it, but my partner felt forced. They said they will help themselves in to get it installed and there was nothing we could do.

If we don't let them in, we would have been charged a fine.

British Gas we are with. I've hated them since day 1.

Partner won't change over though. Sigh.

Just an update.. We are on a pay as you go tariff..
