A few weeks ago i posted a good link on how to secure this platform.

The security was compromised by having an inactive admin account, most likely with a weak password.

Why not rebuild it from scratch and simply "secure" it ? or is that not good enough ?

This is part of that I have asked for. Not so much to re-build, but to just add the required forum sections which wouldn't take long at all.

AND to make 24 hour backups!

When the mods were given access to the new forum it was to sign up and be made mods .... but we looked around and then began to test it for moderation purposes and user friendlyness.

We found many issues on both fronts .... but in my opinion .... this is the worst.

We made a fake member account ( a BAD member) and tried to moderate against it?

Castrated .... literally ball less!

Could hardly do a thing .... BUT

the worst of it .... our bad member made a 'private' group (which is like a self contained twitter thread, in which only allowed by the group can post) and while mods could see it existed  .... they could not see what was in it nor do anything to it!

But more .... our bad member made a 'hidden' group!

And the mods cannot even see that it actually exists .... forget about modding it .... you can't see it!

What is it called (it is still there .... I just went in as the bad member and looked) ....

Hidden groups .... Mods can't see!

And that is just one thing the mods found.

It is not a forum .... it is facebook social media first and incorporates a forum.

I only want a forum .... I don't need any 'followers' and I don't 'follow' anyone.

I'm behind on this thread and so maybe or maybe not this post is dated but-

Sad news. I don't think I want any part of that either. Please keep this place too as I'm not throwing my toys out saying that I'm not interested, I'm genuinely sad and disappointed that if I read correctly- my convictions will bar any viewing let alone interaction with the new site.

Yes it is but I am just saying that there is no need to act yet .... you don't need to dump Ickonic right now.

Lets see what happens .... I have emailed Gareth again asking for an answer!

I've removed my auto subscription.  Right now it seems the right thing to do. I'm voting with my feet.  I'll still support David in other ways but I'm trying to make a voice heard. It won't work ..I sense it doesn't matter in their scheme of things.  It matters to me though.

Thank you Ink, Eve and Basket for your summary of the situation and for all the hard work you have put in to test out the new forum, it is hugely disappointing that it has proved to be not fit for purpose. Also it has felt puzzling over the past couple of months as to why the launch has been delayed for so long, Gareth having initially indicated that it would be ready by 1st June and indeed the resulting quality of the ‘new forum’ in no way reflects the extended time taken.

It feels like we have been dumped onto a new platform that is primarily interested in procuring our data, (like fb) which to me goes against David’s warnings of the technocratic takeover of our lives.. I don’t understand Gareth’s motives here, but he clearly has no real interest in the freedom of speech, or voices of those who contribute huge amounts of research to this forum.

It’s also troubling that the concerns of the mods are not heard, it should be a given that mods are able to express important views on behalf of forum users and that they are taken seriously and acted upon, otherwise it would be an intolerable job for competent and dedicated mods. The suggestions Eve put forward regarding rebuilding the existing forum, looked like the most hopeful solution in the circumstances, but possibly Gareth no longer wants the forum on the David Icke website, perhaps because of individual views being mistakenly associated with David.

If this is the case, migrating to another forum doesn’t feel right somehow, we are the DIF and we would end up as something else. I wonder if Gareth would agree to a ‘DI associate forum’ where we are more autonomous, with members responsible for our own platform. We have some good mods in place and if time commitment is an issue, extra mod(s) could be voted in by members, say on a six-monthly basis. Ink has proved beyond doubt his commitment to this forum and I would like to hope he would be our ‘Admin’. There are long term posters on the DIF, who through suggesting solutions, have shown their extensive knowledge in building websites and running forums and who clearly have the best interests of this forum at heart. Perhaps a consultation group of these folk could be formed to create a solid platform going forward? What we have here is too important to let it die...

That's obviously a concern. There must be settings somewhere that can configure group creation permissions and visibility.

We don't need THEIR permission to set up an alternative DAVID ICKE FAN FORUM do we?

We can do what we want. Is this what they want us to do to de link it from David but carry on as we were ?

Very disappointing they couldn't have said that in the first place if so.

Yes mate .... I have told Gareth that he cannot open it unless that is sorted.

Just imagine the type of 'hidden' groups which would be made and no one would even know that they are there????

I have looked at the documentation mate .... (something admin should have done)

https://www.buddyboss.com/resources/docs/

I am getting more and more pissed off :(

I don't think they do want that .... it is more that admin likes twitter/facebook type of interaction and not so much researched forum (long form) discussion!

You may have noticed that they don't get involved on the forum but 'tweet' a lot (but then they do have 19K followers)

I laugh .... I will be talking about that soon .... unless I get a sodding reply!

Why don't they just let you make and run the forum..... I mean, if you've got the time.... a bit like Sean Adl did for the previous Icke forum... I assume you've got the coding chops to run and secure a forum...

Seems pointless having Gareth involved....if he's not involved..... just a waste of everyone's time.

(Most likely) that can configured/removed along with some of the social media functions in the backend, but that needs 'admin' or the 'webmaster'.

So after having read all this (I too lurk logged out unless I want to post) and a few other posts, it shows we have a lot of very dedicated and genuinely concerned parties. Both mods and users.

We have a call for a forum type environment which is more research focused than 350 character social focused. And we have (what I feel I've decoded from all your undertones) a drastic disconnect from admin, Gareth and especially David.

Speaking from my own opinion I feel what we need is an admin/developer who IS into debunks, research and privacy, knows tech to the point of building secure environments whist giving people the freedom to express and share.

If people would like (I am a professional in the field) I could build a real site, with a real forum (security and all) and have the site dedicated to people's research (taking forum posts and turning them into articles on the site).

Would anyone want this? I could probably afford to fund it myself, I might pop a donation button on there for forum upkeep.

But this is very much doable. Just need a show of hands so I don't put effort in fruitlessly.

I have .... asked Gareth to allow this forum to continue and .... to allow someone who gives a shit to run it. Thus he can twitter to his hearts content.

Of course .... me posting this (and what I may soon post) will not put me at the top of the list (but if this forum is to die now .... then fuck being nice)

I no longer work for medical reasons but would volunteer my time for what capacity you would want to use it to help keep this place a haven.

Not sure if you mean the icke forum or me, but if you do mean me the help would be very welcome and appreciated :)

@A_Grand_Tale_Of_Horror if others are up for it, and it's the same or better layout than this, and the numbers go, I will ? help with donations. I am skint at the minute but in the next couple of weeks I don't mind spearing £50 to £100 if it means having a decent place to chat. (If it comes to it)

Edit and that goes for anybody else (whatever we decide) I cannot help with the technical stuff but I don't mind contributing financially.

I think we need to wait for a reply from Gareth to see if he is still prepared to keep this forum open (and restore it to some functionality), whether or not he decides to proceed with the new DI social. As ink has said, if he then still proceeds with the new platform but also keep this one, members can make a choice as to whether to also join over there too. In this case, Gareth should not transfer accounts over and leave the choice to the individual.

If the new social platform goes live tomorrow and this place closes, perhaps members should keep in touch either via Grumpy Owl's forum and/or the Crowhouse Community. I am already signed up to the Crowhouse and intend to also join Grumpy Owl's. (Edit: Grumpy Owl's would probably be best on second thoughts as it may not be fair to hijack the Crowhouse Community with DIF related stuff).

Other members have already expressed the thoughts I have been having of setting up our own "unofficial" DI forum. I would be prepared to pay for one and could probably fund the whole thing if necessary. I would also like to be involved in any set up process.

Maybe call it - 'NOT the David Icke Forum' ?

Then Ickers can find it .....and it states it's NOT lcke so distances David from it ?

@A_Grand_Tale_Of_Horror Would you possibly be able to create a forum like the old (original) DIF? If so, that would be wonderful! If not, I would still be happy to see one like this one.

The main thing is that it is NOTHING like a social networking site, and would be somewhere where members would feel comfortable to share information/research freely, whilst remaining (relatively) anonymous. From what's been discussed in this thread, I really dislike the format of the new forthcoming DIF, as it is too focused (like FB) on profiling of members, instead of being focused on the actual research material.
