There is a wealth of forum software out there, both free/open-source and paid-for/commercial. Some are very good, some are very bad.

 

Anyone with a little technical knowledge can set up a forum, but choosing the right platform is your key foundation. If its not easy for members to use, that will put them right off.

 I hope Gareth listens to you re keeping this forum.

 

Perhaps those of us who don’t want a Facebook type format should just put our names down as nay; if enough do, maybe they’ll take note.

I havent see the new forum yet so i cant pass comment on it.

 

However some of you here need to give it a rest with the critique.

 

We have just come out of a major DDOS attack that nuked 10 years worth of tactical information. So this forum as it stands isnt "fit for purpose". 

 

As a (very) long term member here i am not going to criticise the team. They have allowed  us to post stuff over the years that no one else would touch. (Have you all forgotten it was this forum that revealed to the world, the synchronicity of dead Russians in Edinburgh?! Long before the Skripals affair. MSM ignored that. Also it was this forum that revealed the demonic attack on former British Prime Minister Theresa May in 2017. Again silence from the world. This forum and its long term members holds it weight against anyone else quite well. Even 4Chan bends the knee to us.)

 

 

We should trust their judgement and let them get on with it. Also keep in mind this isnt twitter or social media as such. Its a forum for sharing hardcore alt information that the rest of the web wont go near now. We are needed moreso now than ever. Dont undermine that ability.

 

I am looking forward to the new forum on Monday.

Thanks ink, ironically I came across this for the first time today when I did a search for 'BuddyPress' for my own website.

 

I see exactly what you mean now, and what Basket Case and Mitochondrial Eve were complaining about. And I can also see why Gareth thinks it is going to be so great ?

 

Is it what long-term (and even short-term like me) forum members want? Probably not.

 

The younger generation may be in to all things 'social' like on Facebook and Twitter, and now I think about it I get where Gareth probably sees this as a 'rival' alternative social media platform, especially while people like David Icke and his ilk are being freely removed from other social media networks.

 

But again, is this what forum members want? Is it a great way to discuss such alternative topics?

 

Should have gone with XenForo, IMHO.

If it's like Feckbook in that you've got to have an account and log in just to lurk then I think this will put off any potential new members.

I, personally, only log in when I want to post something otherwise I lurk anonymously.

What the mods did yesterday exposed so many problems .... but problems which could within a short time land David with large legal issues?

Gareth has today said that they will be sorted by a 'plugin' .... that remains to be seen and if one particular problem isn't sorted .... you cannot open it.

Personally liked the old forum layout and I know many others did. It was much easier to navigate.  But without being a dick, because this was discussed last year or whenever it was that the old forum wasn't coming back this was an okay replacement and I and many others appreciated the work that went into it. 

 

I made a topic a while back which was lost with the hack highlighting the need for forums in a social media sound bite culture. As others have said this place has been a sanity saver for me and I know many others as this year gets more insane by the day by the hour. The contributions and well written information is something we should be encouraging in an increasingly degenerate culture we find ourselves in. Forums I am ? certain we are crying out for. 

 

It's not just the "oldies" I know a lot of young people who feel similar.  Twitter I have always thought was a god awful platform for having any kind of dialogue. Journalists and public speakers even the ones I like and admire, while they are free to do so, I wished they just wouldn't.

 

And now learning that this new forum is an offshoot to Facebook, I am like ink disappointed to say the least. I fucked that platform off this year as it's a god awful place.

I am also posting as .... if this forum is to end on Monday .... I will not be posting on the 'new facebook'. I never have had social media accounts and I do not want one.

I definitely do not wish to be given no option to join or not.

I know what the new site software is and the plugins being used.

It is not a forum .... it is facebook social media first and incorporates a forum.

I only want a forum .... I don't need any 'followers' and I don't 'follow' anyone.

 

Some may 'like' it .... I think many will say .... wtf!

 

I have expressed my concerns to Gareth .... but have had no reply yet.

 

I have asked for this forum NOT to be closed and the posts not moved to the 'facebook' .... If people wish to join the new site, then they can have that option.

I have asked that this current forum is correctly defined with sections (thus the threads can be moved accordingly) and that it is backed up every day.

Look .... If you 'like' facebook, then you will be happy with the new site .... if like me you just want a forum to discuss concepts, ideas and events .... then you won't!

 

INK bro thank you for that, i am of the same opinion no frigging way i will have ANYTHING to do with facebook tracebook definately not. if that happens i will NOT be staying around. thats the facist enemy right there at the door now we join them sorry not this dude

Hang on a sec, if you check out the demo (url above) and then go to the 'forum' section:

Then it looks like a load of forum categories that could be organised similar to be before, and you just post & reply in there. All the profile sections you can just leave blank (like now) and just have your username, and the bulk of activity is in ther forum section (!?) unless I'm missing something here :classic_unsure:

I thought it looked a load of bolllocks when I first clicked open the demo profile page, but after clicking out of the user page you can just use the forums.

 

edit. It does seem a bit unnecessary though, considering we thought this was going to be a more robust 'forum'.

Just to clarify, am I right in saying the current forum provides more personal data protection to that of the new forum due to go live on Monday?

Oh dear. You have to listen to those whose counsel you trust ...if you delegate mod privilege then I assume you trust. By all means push on regardless if you are convinced your way is the right way.  But don't say you weren't warned.

 

Hope pride isn't becoming a blocker to common sense here.
