New flu strain with 'potential to become pandemic' found in pigs in China

Scientists have identified a new type of flu which has 'pandemic potential'.

The discovery, which has taken place in China, has seen medical experts unearth a brand-new strain of flu - less than one year after the first case of coronavirus was recorded.

Covid-19 is believed to have first infected a human being at a wet market in China, and has been identified as a superspreader in the ongoing pandemic.

Now, scientists have found a new virus in pigs which has the potential to spread around the globe, becoming a pandemic.

But medics have assured the public there is no current need to worry, with no "imminent threat" of the disease spreading.

Experts will keep a close eye on the new strain of flu, which was found in swine.

I know, lets call this "swine flu"...

BBC has more on this:

A new strain of flu that has the potential to become a pandemic has been identified in China by scientists.

It emerged recently and is carried by pigs, but can infect humans, they say.

The researchers are concerned that it could mutate further so that it can spread easily from person to person, and trigger a global outbreak.

While it is not an immediate problem, they say, it has "all the hallmarks" of being highly adapted to infect humans and needs close monitoring.

As it's new, people could have little or no immunity to the virus.

The scientists write in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that measures to control the virus in pigs, and the close monitoring of swine industry workers, should be swiftly implemented.

I suppose the first question to be asked is "how was this discovered?"

"Measures to control the virus in pigs" also sounds fairly omminous, mass slaughter of pigs then? No more bacon butties or sausages?

Pork to become 'haram'... oh wait...

The last pandemic flu the world encountered - the swine flu outbreak of 2009 - was less deadly than initially feared, largely because many older people had some immunity to it, probably because of its similarity to other flu viruses that had circulated years before.

That virus, called A/H1N1pdm09, is now covered by the annual flu vaccine to make sure people are protected.

The new flu strain that has been identified in China is similar to 2009 swine flu, but with some new changes.

"New changes", or perhaps 'upgrades'.

Looks like your virus protection is out of date and you need to update it then...

How worried should we be?

The virus, which the researchers call G4 EA H1N1, can grow and multiply in the cells that line the human airways.

They found evidence of recent infection in people who worked in abattoirs and the swine industry in China when they looked at data from 2011 to 2018.

Current flu vaccines do not appear to protect against it, although they could be adapted to do so if needed.

With a heading like that, its obvious that the BBC already wants their reader to "be worried".

Prof Kin-Chow Chang, who works at Nottingham University in the UK, told the BBC: "Right now we are distracted with coronavirus and rightly so. But we must not lose sight of potentially dangerous new viruses."

While this new virus is not an immediate problem, he says: "We should not ignore it."

In theory, a flu pandemic could occur at any time, but they are still rare events. Pandemics happen if a new strain emerges that can easily spread from person to person.

Although flu viruses are constantly changing - which is why the flu vaccine also needs to change regularly to keep up - they do not usually go pandemic.

Prof James Wood, head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Cambridge, said the work "comes as a salutary reminder" that we are constantly at risk of new emergence of pathogens, and that farmed animals, with which humans have greater contact than with wildlife, may act as the source for important pandemic viruses.

It very much sounds to me like a narrative is being formed here that vaccines need to be 'upgraded' on a regular basis, in order to 'keep us safe' from any new variants of viruses that emerge.

Quote

A World Health Organization spokeswoman said: "Eurasian avian-like swine influenza virus are known to be circulating in the swine population in Asia and to be able to infect humans sporadically. Twice a year during the influenza vaccine composition meetings, all information on the viruses is reviewed and the need for new candidate vaccine viruses is discussed. We will carefully read the paper to understand what is new.

"It also highlights that we cannot let down our guard on influenza; we need to be vigilant and continue surveillance even during the COVID-19 pandemic."

And the WHO is sticking its oar in already. We haven't even seen the 'coronavirus vaccine' yet, and they're talking about looking for vaccines for the 'next' virus pandemic.

Keep an eye on this one folks...

Hey - don't be giving them the idea to combine those things, KillBill. We don't want infected terrorists with 5G remote control ray directors in their pockets riding in on aliens, just ahead of the locust swarms and asteroids.

I can only hope this isn't "Pandemic 2"...

We keep hearing about certain elements in the US paying labs to work on different viruses in animals so that they can infect humans, which they would normally never do...

And then they tell us that there is another virus that has jumped from an animal to a human. Yes, because some scientists in a lab have made it so! And they will patent it too, if they haven't already done that!

All part of the Eugenics movement. They couldn't kill most of us with Covid-19, so they have to try again and again and again with others until they can.

So, we have to be smarter than them and arm our immune system with the right minerals and vitamins AND the right thoughts! No fear above all! And negative thoughts only feed those with low energy who are out to get us.

We are smarter than that and they won't ever succeed with their viruses!

Dead ducks...

Note the cat in gas mask. They're coming after your pets folks

They tried with dogs with corona and quickly learnt that certainly in UK that would not wash. So if they get rid of cats all this disgruntled cat owners will gang up and side against dog owners

I love my dogs

All the Scamdemic and Extinction Rebellion headlines are linked imo to make the populations turn to Veganism.

Most of the recent so called outbreaks have been in food factories.  Meat Bad. Gmo crops good.
