Fatigued

I'm 48 have no kids and totally given up on human beings.

I really wonder what to do.  I'm a bit tired of all my neighbours building extensions and incessant angle grinders and whatever.  

Just never ends.

I'd like to go somewhere quiet and live cheaply and simply, I'm really not interested.

But where ?

Best bet I have is going to N.India in some lost and unpopular towns or pilgrimmage towns like Gangotri and settling in.

Or walking into a monastery or ashram - which is not idea I suppose, but at least it's quiet and organised - I guess they make you do things.

Anywhere else?
Possibly somewhere in Egypt might work.

Nepal is quiet and cheap it's true but difficult travelling.

Don't know anything about Central Asia, it could be empty for all I know or not.

Dangerfield rents a comfy looking place for about £400 a month in Cambodia and the people there seem pretty relaxed. I like the idea of escaping north to the visa-free zone of Svarlbard, but the cost of living is pretty high.

I know the feeling mate. Not trying to be some cosplay hipster or anything but most things modern I find degenerate. 

 

Have you seen modern driveways these days? Clean, no plants, brown or dark grey. Soul less for soul less people. Of course life has changed and most people own a car now, but these driveways they get done look shit.

 

Don't get me starting on interiors. Spot lights which I find repulsive, no wallpaper, blinds, no wooden furniture with character. No character at all.  Philistines.

 

West country always appealed to me. But you need money behind you if you don't find work as a lot of people go their to retire.

same here. bunch of gang stalkers who get house renovations and work done regularly and acquire new vehicles and tools of all sorts can be heard throughout the day. 

i swear it's as if they're doing some sort of underground tunnels or something.

you could always get a static caravan somewhere in Lincolnshire it would be expensive but fairly peaceful.

Sierra Nevada mountains above the lecrin valley in Spain in granada province has a lot of small fincas  with land - very high up often down fairly inaccessible tracks. Good water supplies lots of sun for solar panels

How much do you think they'd cost ?

 

India/Nepal or some really poor country seems the easiest and least hassle option in general.

Between 60 and 120 euros. You can get cave houses for far less but theydon't t usually come with land although some do

The Cardigan Bay area of Wales is gorgeous and not over-priced. That's where I'd go.

 

I camped on Shell Island a couple of years back (though I've been to other areas of Wales from being little, and just like the natural energies there) and fell in love with it. There are dolphins and seals to be seen in the bay, and a raw, natural beauty is there to be freely revelled in. Mount Snowdon is magical. 

 

Sorry you are feeling fatigued. I can identify with that, and it's not good, so hope you feel refreshed & invigorated soon.

Lots of good water supplies in Wales and Ireland..and the lakes . Am looking at moving uk base to the lakes although it was a 5 year plan.

It;s a beautiful area, for sure.

 

Re water, I intend buying a Berkey water filter, but as my son has turned 18 last weekend, this is the 1st month I won't receive maintenance, working & child tax credit, single person council tax discount & child benefits, so I'm down by a substantial chunk on my monthly income & daren't spend anything. Have a look at them if you've not done - they are a different animal to the Britta style crappy ones, and look like the bees' knees to me. You could use to make rainwater drinkable.They're not cheap, but given the filters' lifespan, look like good value for money.

I always say life is a series of minor victories sugarcoating an inevitable defeat. 

 

Just got to live for them victories I suppose. 

 

On the subject of noise neighbours, I am so sick and tired of them. The standard power tools that only seem to work in the sun. Bouncy castles with screaming kids. Quad bikes. Gypsies racing horses. Lawnmowers every single day. Tree cutting. Building work. Loud cars. Drug deals. Fat slags shouting at their kids. I'm not exaggerating any of it. And my house has full sun in this unbareable, never ending shit show of a summer.. I have never know a period of weather since lock down like this. Its like its all designed and my blood pressure is through the roof.

I have always wanted to make a homemade water filter for rainwater, out of sand, gravel, mesh coffee filters, paper coffee filters and activated charcoal.  I know it will work, and it's not difficult, but I am lazy.  I have this intuitive feeling that, once you filter out the pollution, rainwater is really good to drink.  Even tap water put through a many-stage counter-top filter, which is what we use, still has pharmaceuticals and fluoride in it.

Berkey filtered water with the extra filters looks to me like the best you can get. They are dear, but the filters last something like 6 years from memory. I can smell chemicals in my tap water.

 

When I used to live in the north east, maybe 30 years back, I used to get a bad stomach every 6 months, followed soon after buy visibly nasty tap water. I genuinely think it caused a miscarriage. I got the water board out, and the bombastic pillock who arrived poured a glass of water, and looked at it, then announced there was nothing wrong with it. I could see clear shapes of insects floating about in it and it stank. Very much like I've seen since on the Erin Brokovich film, I challenged him to actually drink it, and he would not, which was proof enough for me. so I threw him out of my house.

Shungite stone is 20 times better than charcoal but is also way more expensive.

Are you serious?

Also how do you get around the visa? UK is no longer in the EU.

In the UK, if you are an illegal alien and can prove that you have been living in the country for 7...may be 10 years (sorry can't remember which), you can apply for citizenship. Oh! I remember Muir told us that if you become a refugee and you ring them up to come and rescue, you can stay in the country.... That's how it works in the UK.

I was once thinking of moving over to Cardiff but was told it rained all the time..... put me off.

Also I heard that Welsh people are funny with outsiders.... and I mean not foreigners but even towards English people.

Mobile home (don’t know what they call them overseas), doesn’t have to be flash; or get a van or an old bus and kit it out. Solar panel on the roof; portaloo.

 

Cheap living once you’re set up, and if you feel the need, you can just up sticks and move along.

 

Find friendly farmers and ask to park up for a while; do a bit of labour in return to sweeten the deal.

Cave houses go for as little as 20 euro. Spain has agreed to protect its UK homeowners. You have to apply to the Spanish consulate for a NIE number. I already have one house out there . Am considering buying another in the mountain but I'd have to sell UK home to do that.

A small finca farmhouse up in the Sierra Nevada is 120 EUR ?  Really or do I misunderstand ?

I suppose you'd have to maintain a vehicle for transport.

No they really are that price. Look on thinkspain.com . They'll not be plush but they are 'enough ' also, unlike France the prices to do them up out there are low. I bought a town house for 80000 EUR a couple of years ago  and have gutted it, replaced kitchen two bathrooms , retiled terraces and furnished it for less than 15k (spanish builder did the work) all to very high standards. This is in a seaside resort . The mountains are cheaper. Granada province or almeria have best prices.

Llanjaron  area particularly has good water sources.  The Sierra Nevada ski resort area too. You can ski in the morning and be on 25 degree heat an hour away on the beach in afternoon. The mountain range goes right to the coast
