Alfred McEwen, professor of planetary geology at the University of Arizona, said that archaic life forms such as Martian bacteria had probably persisted in pools of liquid water to the present day. They are likely to resemble the simple microbes that drift around in the depths of ice-bound subterranean lakes in Antarctica, he believes. Traces of these alien species would be a time capsule that could take biologists back to the earliest stirrings of life on Earth. “The billion-year-old [geological] record of life on Earth is largely lost, but on Mars it’s still preserved,” Professor McEwen told Stephen Hawking and an audience of Nobel laureates at the Starmus festival in Tenerife. “There is probably a connection between life on Mars and life on Earth. So the search for ancient life on Mars may really be a search for the origin of life on Earth.” Professor McEwan is the principal investigator on Nasa’s HiRISE telescope, which is taking detailed photographs of the planet’s surface from an orbiting spacecraft. In 2010 an undergraduate on his team noticed signs of damp salts that seemed to ebb and flow down some slopes on Mars in its warm seasons. Last year Nasa confirmed that underground water appeared to be “wicking” to the surface. Mars rovers have also found signs of complex organic compounds. Professor McEwen said that life was most likely to have survived in pockets below the surface, where the temperatures would be warm enough to sustain liquid water and the organisms would be sheltered from cosmic radiation. “At a depth of a few kilometres it’s warm enough to keep H2O in a liquid state. So if there was ever life on Mars in the past, it probably survives to the present day in these underground pockets,” he said. Back at the first awakening of basic life on Earth, the rocky shrapnel from the huge asteroid strikes that dogged the early solar system is thought to have sent fragments of the planets crashing into one another. Professor McEwen thinks they ferried life back and forth. “There has almost certainly been exchange of biota [life] between Earth and Mars,” he said. “Mars isn’t very far away: Martian rocks from impacts can easily reach Earth; probably Earth rocks also reached Mars from impacts in the past. “Life began on this planet about four billion years ago when there were lots of big-impact events. And bacteria are highly tolerant to extremes of desiccation, UV and IR [ultraviolet and heat] radiation, and to high shock levels. So micro-organisms or spores could survive a trip between Earth and Mars. “This raises the question: did life arise on Earth and get transported to Mars, or was it the other way round? Here's what changed all that for me..... When my child was very unwell on 2 occasions my gut/heart told me to listen and on one occasion I didn't and got it wrong. The other occasion I did and got it very right.That taught me to listen to my body and not be over ruled by logic and my brain. When the Covid scam kicked off at the start my heart told me that this was not human.This whole thing had a very low vibration and something very,very dark. Well beyond anything human. In fact my entire body told me the truth of what is really at the stem of all this and it 100% aint human. Everyone felt it but just did not listen!
