My grandfather used to build telescopes as well as other things like crystal radios to donate to people in a hospital where people were suffering with mental health issues. Patrick Moore was going to come and visit him to talk about it, but my grandmother was pretty shy and didn't want the attention. I used to buy an Astronomy magazine in the early 1990s. There was a competition in there to win a turnable sky map ( laminated) of which I forget what you call it; and a book by Patrick. I won them! I wrote to Patrick to thank him for the prizes ( I think via the magazine) and to my surprise I got a typed postcard off him saying he was glad I liked the prizes! Unfortunately I lost all 3 items when I moved. I liked his eccentric no nonsense attitude. He had a particular dislike of jobsworths and even wrote a book about them lol. He'd have a lot to say to the lefty wokery loonies if he was here now, and it wouldn't be complimentary. This reminds me of a bloke I used to see on a bus route I'd be on a few years back. I think he was in his 50s, and he was always dressed like a pantomime dame- garish floral frock, tights, a very bad yellowy blonde wig, garish make up just like what David Walliams was wearing in this clip, hand bag and I seem to have vague recollections of him having a doll also. He'd sit opposite you grinning, all the way through the journey. Now I live up north and we are not as reserved on buses as they tend to be in London.People tend to talk to each other. I remember one time, there I was on the bus and this drag man got on and sat in the seat opposite me grinning. Everyone else was pretending not to notice him, and to stay straight faced. But I started to giggle and the man saw me and did a sort of silent giggle himself, all the while grinning away. I then burst out laughing and couldn't stop. I laughed so hard and then everyone else on the bus started laughing. It was just hilarious. I don't think I said anything to the man, just kept on laughing. I should have asked him why he was in that get up. I really got the impression he was just trolling to see what people would do.
