Michi713
I won’t go to wakes anymore. I didn’t even go to my own grandmother’s wake. Not because I’m afraid of seeing the deceased but I’m afraid my undisciplined thoughts will ruin the moment. The first was my grandfather’s wake during the eulogy. He sat on top of his coffin and was listening. Except he wasn’t old like when he died. He looked in his twenties. He noticed I was crying and said “Something’s wrong with Michelle.” Then he told me to listen as the priest started talking about his service in WW2. The second was a friend’s grandfather’s wake. He was elderly. He passed shortly after his wife who he grew up with in a small town. I saw them both as children sitting on a tree branch and looking down at the wake. They noticed me. Perhaps the reason they looked younger than when they died is they embodied themselves as they were when they were most alive.

[out of likes] don't know if i've mentioned it on here before but during the wake of my best friend a couple of years ago i saw an image of jesus on the floorboards. i rubbed my eyes and it was still there. then there was a mist under the coffin. only i saw it. and you also mention that you grandfather looked in his twenties ... a year ago i was in my mates drinking with a couple of our friends and it was a late / early one and my friend came out from his bedroom saying "who is that, get him out". so i went in and it was a fella who looked old, had grey hair !. so i asked him who the fuck he was and told him to leave. he didn't answer, he was pished. a half hour later he got up and came into the room we were in. he was our friend who is black haired and 30. i still see him about but not as much. he though is still good friends with my other mate who doesn't remember a thing. shapeshifters everywhere. i wouldn't even know how to approach the 'shapeshifting' acquaintance about this ! but do see him as an acquaintance now and have partied with him afterwards. Beaujangles
Ive had two occasions where a black silhouette type thing was sitting on me as I was trying to sleep. It was a few years ago now...but I still remember well. The first time it was on my arm near my chest and I felt the slight weight. I thought it was my cat which was also black. I tried to move so as to get it to move and it wouldn't. So I spoke to it thinking it was the cat - as I turned around I saw this black silhouette thing slither towards the floor and disappear. My son came in as he heard me speaking to what I thought was the cat. He asked if I was ok...and I said what I saw and that that I had thought it was the cat. My son told me to come to his room where the cat was sleeping soundly on his bed and had been for the past hour as my son was watching TV. Then a few months later I was in bed again lying on my left side and I felt the same weight on the outside of my right thigh. I turned and saw a black outline of a thing. It was looking towards the ceiling and had sort of yellowy eyes. ( I could only see the left one from the side.) I looked to the ceiling where it was looking and saw a light...it was like a mini sparkler, like the sparks from a sparkler but the size of a small butterfly. This light went across the corner of the ceiling and I kept focused on it. After what seemed to be a full minute the black thing slithered to the floor like the last time. As soon as it was gone the light sparkler went out. Sounds odd I know.... but over my life there have been a few strange occurrences..... allymisfit
I have so many stories I don't know where to begin. Life truly is weird. I haven't had any encounters for a long time though. One of the last I did have was when I was working nightshift in a care home and we were doing regular checks and one gentleman was still awake (he had dementia) and when I went in to his room, the clock minute hand spun until it was the exact correct time. The clock hadn't been working for a long time. That freaked me out. In the same home, we would hear singing when everyone was asleep. My friend saw an apparition in the main dining room whilst doing the dishes in the kitchen. A black shadow, no particular form.. More like a blob. Was sat on a chair as if waiting for food. Another from the same home.. I had a resident who had a seizure and he changed completely.. He had seizures all his life, but this particular one completely changed him. His voice changed and he would keep laughing deeply and loudly, saying "There's a ghost in this room, hahaha" Anyway.. I went to see him one night and he said that to me. Right at that moment, his bedroom door slammed shut (he liked his door open). Another colleague saw a shadowy figure crawl from one room across to the adjacent one. She was mega spooked. There was a horrible energy at that home, anyone could feel that. I spoke to an agency nurse one night and she told me stories about the local hospital. Oh my days. I am so glad I decided not to study nursing!! Anyway, one day in particular she saw a ghostly figure raising upward from the ground.. Seriously that gives me the heebies!!! One of her colleagues went in to an admin room and the chair was spinning around by itself. I love these things. They freak me out.. But damn they're exciting.

Diesel
I was with my family driving back one night when we came across an car accident that had just happened. The passengers and driver were standing by the road and we got out to help them. It was before mobile phones so I ran to a nearby house that overlooked a graveyard to ask them to call an ambulance. “Not again “ came the angry reply from the upstairs window. I then went back to the accident and there the driver was standing with a cut on his head saying “my car”. I looked at the car and it was upside down and completely crushed. The police arrived and we left. On the way back after dropping a friend off there was no sign any accident had taken place just 15 minutes later. No car no police nothing. It was only years later looking back I realised no one could have survived an accident like that and remembered their was a wreath of flowers at the spot that the accident happened

Beaujangles
One of my other strange happenings was during the night around 3 a.m. I woke up to the sound of a car alarm going off and it sounded very loud. I woke my spouse who had been sleeping and he came down the stairs even though he said he didn't hear anything. I was irritated as I thought he was simply ignoring the sound. He looked at me as though I was mad, as I told him we need to check outside. We both open the doors and looked around. He checked the car and kept saying he couldn't hear anything. Whereas I could hear it ...and it was loud. He said to just get back to bed and ignore it. As we went back up the stairs i said to him that it had stopped. He turned around and rolled his eyes. We were back in bed for about 15 minutes and I heard it again. This time I just lay there as I actually thought I must be losing it. To my surprise my husband woke up and asked me if I heard anything....after saying no because I thought he was mocking me he got out of bed and said to go back downstairs with him. We opened the front door and the neighbours were out by their son-in-laws car as.....yea you guessed it, the alarm was going off.!!! I said to the neighbours that my husband hadnt heard it the first time it went off and they all looked at me...and one of my neighbours said .... it didnt go off before, our bedroom is right there we would have heard it if it did. Diesel
One night while camping we were all sat round a fire singing songs and playing instruments. Every one was taking turns until it got to an older American lady, she said “I don’t have a song but I have a story” and she began. It was when she was in college, for summer break her and her friend had a trip planned to hike the Ute trail, an old Indian trail through the Rocky Mountains. A few days before they were set to leave her friend got pneumonia. Undeterred she decided to go alone. The trip was a life changing experience and she met many wonderful people and found an inner peace in her solitude in the mountains. She experienced beautiful scenes and took many pictures. When she got back she couldn’t wait to get the pictures developed. When the photos came back she gasped. At the end of every reel was a picture of her alone asleep in her tent. My love for the afterlife has been enhanced by books such as A Wanderer in the Spirit Lands, and Jurgen Ziewe's books. Absolutely fascinating stuff It's interesting you mention the smell of sulphur as that has been reported to be experienced with "hauntings" by many people. The old psychiatric hospital might explain it. Now, I have a problem with the subject of hauntings, the afterlife etc because logically I do not believe in them as being "supernatural" as I'm an atheist and into science, and some of these occurrences can be explained by atmospheric conditions such as infra sound, electromagnetism, Helmholtz resonance etc. This article does explain a lot of these experiences scientifically: Quote Is That a Ghost? Vibroacoustic Explanations for False Poltergeists. I’m going to assume that the engineers, physicists, scientists, and researchers who read the COMSOL Blog don’t hold much stock in the paranormal. Even so, hearing a rattling window in the middle of the night or a whispering noise in an empty house is enough to frighten even a seasoned analytical mind. When a scientist debunks a suspected poltergeist (a supernatural entity that causes physical disturbances), it is known as a false poltergeist. Researchers in this line of work often refer to Occam’s razor to explain these occurrences, as it states that the simplest explanation for something is likely the most valid. In the article “Things that Go Bump in the Night: The Physics of ‘False Poltergeists'” from a past issue of Sound & Vibration magazine, Roman Vinokur discusses common vibroacoustic phenomena that are mistaken for ghosts and supernatural entities. Let’s put on our ghost hunting/acoustician hats and take a look at some of the examples featured in the article. If you ever wake in the middle of the night to a rumbling or groaning sound, think about Helmholtz resonance before burning sage or calling a medium. The most basic example of a Helmholtz resonator is a glass bottle with a narrow opening. When you hold the bottle up to your lips and blow perpendicular to its opening, it makes a humming sound. A room with an open window or door can also act as a Helmholtz resonator. When turbulent airflow passes through an opening in the room, it excites Helmholtz resonance. The natural frequency of Helmholtz resonance depends on the room’s volume, thickness of the walls, and area of the opening. If this value falls within the range of infrasound (below 20 Hz), it can cause creepy sounds in the audible range — perhaps leading to a suspected poltergeist. Infrasound can even vibrate our internal organs. This explains why people who recount paranormal experiences often describe feelings of nausea; anxiety; and most commonly, coldness. Helmholtz resonance can be excited by sound waves propagating from an internal or external noise source. For example, thunder can reverberate in small rooms, which can be perceived as something more malicious than weather. The Sound & Vibrations article mentions a building that was rumored to be haunted. In actuality, the only thing haunting the building was revenge. The workers who built the apartment were scammed by the owner who hired them. To get revenge, the workers embedded empty glass bottles in the building’s roof. The bottles acted as Helmholtz resonators and wind passing through their openings at night caused tenants to hear roaring sounds at a frequency of 100 Hz. Besides causing scary sounds, Helmholtz resonators also reduce noise in a wide range of applications. For instance, resonators are used in car exhaust systems because they can attenuate a specific and narrow frequency band. When a mean flow enters a typical exhaust system, a Helmholtz resonator attenuates the sound that is generated (similar to our bottle example above, but with the opposite effect). An animation showing the pressure distribution for a Helmholtz resonator under certain operating conditions. Automotive designers often turn to acoustics modeling and analysis to evaluate how the presence of flow affects the Helmholtz resonator’s performance. Full article here: https://uk.comsol.com/blogs/is-that-a-ghost-vibroacoustic-explanations-for-false-poltergeists/ I'm fascinated by this sort of thing. However there do seem to be some things that even the above conditions cannot explain. Like that spirit man Telly Savalas met. I also had a very odd experience when I was a child that I cannot explain with science. I wrote about it on page 2- have a read and tell me what you make of it!
