Tips on preserving your own forum contributions

While I do hope that all previous David Icke Social forum content will be restored, I would also hope that some of the valuable forum contributors are not 'putting all their eggs in one basket' by not keeping their own 'backup' of their material that they post here.

(Now I don't want to be seen as 'favouring' any particular forum members; of course most of us all make valuable contributions in our own way)

If you already keep copies of your research and forum posts, then that's great, and you probably need read no further, unless you want to add any suggestions or anything else I may have missed.

The easiest thing to do for starters, is to copy your forum post into a Word document (or some other word-processing software of your choice!), and save it as a local file on your own computer. As a backup to that, perhaps have a USB stick or external hard disk handy that you can save and store your files and data on.

(If you don't have Microsoft Word or Office, a good free alternative is the open-source LibreOffice, which is itself a fork from the original open-source OpenOffice)

If you want to keep 'online' copies of your forum material, you may wish to consider using some 'blogging' software and start your own blog to post your material and musings in.

There are 'free' platforms where you can do this, such as Blogspot or WordPress.com, just sign up and pick a blog name, then start saving your forum posts and material in new 'blog' articles.

This way at least, you can share your musings and research with others elsewhere.

One downside I can see to this though, is that because you are using that platform's cloud services, you are subject to their terms and conditions, so if you're really unlucky and attract a lot of unwanted attention (or you actually are posting material that would be breaching terms & conditions), you could end up getting your account suspended and your material lost forever. Hope you kept that USB stick handy!

If you're really serious about this, and have a bit of money to spare, you could always buy yourself a domain name and sign up with a webhosting provider; it doesn't have to be expensive, there are lots of webhosting providers offering cheap no-frills hosting packages if you just want to set up a blog or archive.

You can of course then install Wordpress for free on your own website, and with a bit of customising and tweaking, you have your own personal website where you can blog and post to your heart's content. There are other platforms that you could install, but I'd say that Wordpress is very easy to use, and I've used it on numerous websites myself that I've set up, either for myself or for other people.

Most webhost providers will provide basic backup facilities, so you can either store backups in your hosting account, or download them as a zip file, which can then be easily restored if needed, or transferred to a new webhosting account if you decide to change provider.

I did this myself a couple of years back, fed up with internet censorship, I created an 'online persona' and bought a domain name, then using some webhosting I already had, set up my own website. I don't publicise it, or aim to make any money from it, but I found it quite therapeutic to start writing about stuff, making observations on current happenings. I don't really care if no-one else reads it, but I know for a fact that what I write is being 'stored for posterity', and I can refer back to it whenever I need to. Some older stuff I wrote I look back at and feel a bit embarrassed at first, but I don't care. Then again, I do read some stuff back and feel totally vindicated.

So by all means, I'm not saying that people should abandon this forum, and start their own blogs or websites, the two can go hand in hand.

If you have researched and compiled valuable information into forum posts here, just please ensure that you present this material elsewhere, or keep offline copies, or both!

Because you never know when the shit is going to hit the fan again, and if your material is only stored in one place, it's going to be lost, potentially forever.

TPTB are clearly working to try and 'centralise' the Internet, in order to 'control the flow' of information. We must actually do what we can to 'decentralise' this information, and keep it in as many places as possible.

To give a case in point as an example, @Grumpy Grapes is a good example, where they have in the past posted material here that they have already posted on their own website.

I hope they don't mind me using them as an example, but you get the idea... knowledge is there to be shared after all.

Their content has been (hopefully temporarily) lost from this forum, but is preserved elsewhere.

I agree with all that Grumpy Owl has posted .... to add to it ....

This depends on your 'tech' level or 'want' to learn this bollocks?

I save things which I consider important using 'forum' software. I used to do it as stated above using Libre Office but then began to use forum software, online (private forum, just me), to research any subject I was interested in .... this meant that I could just copy it over at any point that I wished to post elsewhere.

But then I considered that anything 'online' could be removed or restricted .... so I re-created 'my' forum on my local computer.

And created copies of it on external keys or drives.

With most forum software you need a 'lampp' stack. But don't worry about what it is (unless you wish to learn it)

You can download and install Xampp .... which will give you a 'localhost' structure and then which ever (and there are many free forum software available) forum you download will work as long as Xampp is running on your localhost.

Thus you do not even need a connection to the internet to interact with your forum and the data held on it.

You would be the 'admin' .... and would learn all about forum structure, adding code to use different codex for videos and such things as creating backups of all the data within your forum.

Maybe too much for many .... but some may wish to consider this?

Of course, yes in the 'early days' of the internet, one could easily set up their own 'webserver' at home, and host their own website on their own computer.

It is still very much possible to do so, but not very straightforward for many people. But yes, if your internet service provider (ISP) allows you a 'static IP' address, you could point your domain name at your own computer, which would then be accessible to any other internet user, as long as your PC was connected to the internet.

The internet is after all a giant network of computers and servers all connected together. You may have a website running on a local server in your home, or within a giant datacentre. It matters not. But unfortunately, popular websites with lots of traffic (ie visitors) work most efficiently when hosted on servers with good bandwidth capability, and most home ISPs don't offer good upload speeds.

So yeah, I'd agree that if you want ultimate 'decentralised' control over your web content, then host it on your own home-based webserver where you are in full control.

Thanks grumpy, I started right away taking "extra saves"... I've had the habit of taking "screen documentations" lately. I still have from the forum that was last month - the old one that is.

I might start a thread with some of them soon.

Edit: I mostly use " Windows(key) + SHIFT + S"

PC: Or on a smaller scale just Ctrl + s (or Menu > Save Page As) in your browser and save 'webpage complete', it will save the formatted html with pictures for offline use. This can be loaded in your browser any time.

I don't get the pics loaded after that procedure, I don't understand why?

looks like this:

? not sure, but that looks like the CSS is not loading.

What browser are you using, and are you using a Desktop/Laptop?

When you save, are you making sure it is 'Webpage complete' and not 'Webpage only'?
How are you loading the page back, are you dragging the .html file back in to the browser or double-clicking it?

edit. Just found a webpage that explains how to do it on other OS's, might be clearer than I normally am:

again, I agree mate.

this realm is not what it was nor is it as it was meant to be!

so .... I will post a link to my online forum .... which will be gone soon anyway .... but I am interested to see what happens :)

as said .... i began with that forum but comprehended that online could always be removed so changed to offline .... it is well over a month since I updated anything there .... I show it for a number of reasons ....

that it is easy to do

that YOU can do it

It is not a lot of money .... nothing to £50 per year (all depends on bandwidth but if it is just you and a few then 50 cover's it a piece of piss)

Copy it offline onto another device and it will NEVER be lost!

big one for me is to see what happens to it? Although that isn't entirety correct lol

I have permanently deleted anyone who did know about it .... everything is gone regarding them :)

https://crazybrainspiders.com/483gutter~Y/

I have opened it up .... as it doesn't matter anymore and it very limited in the information it holds ....

For those watching and reading .... I know what you can and can't do .... this is me telling you that I don't give a fuck .... my time is short and I shall see to you in your shadows and peripheral vision :)

I'm using a Laptop... Brave browser... I saved the webpage complete. . . I double clicked the saved file (filesize 197 kB)... now I tried to drag, and right click + open (in also internet explore, and internet edge)... didn't work.

Just to add to my initial post, in regards to those content creators who prefer to use the medium of 'video'...

Unless you only ever 'livestream', you will already have a 'hard-copy' saved and stored locally of any video you wish to upload.

DON'T assume that 'friendly' Youtube will accept and host your content without question, make sure you keep 'offline' copies archived on your own PC or on some external storage device (be it USB stick or hard disk).

Other video-sharing platforms are available, such as BitChute, Daily Motion, Brighteon and others. And I would recommend that you sign up for accounts and upload your videos there too.

If you have your own web-hosting account and you have the luxury of a lot of storage space, you should upload your own videos there too. The big downside to video content is that it can take up a lot of disk storage space and uses a hell of a lot of bandwidth, if multiple users are viewing the same video at once. This is why third-party video streaming platforms such as Youtube, Vimeo etc are so attractive at first, because the temptation to host your videos there and then embed them on your own website (thus saving space and bandwidth) is almost irrestistible.

So don't please ever assume that by uploading your videos to some third-party site such as Youtube they will somehow be 'preserved', always keep your own copies locally.

now it looked like that... I saved the webpage ' single file ', from three different options - 'complete' , 'single file' & 'HTML only'

I double clicked the saved file (1 155 kB) which was a .MHTML file - it opened automatically with Internet Explorer, I didn't manage to open it yet with Microsoft Edge or Brave.

EDIT: when I save 'HTML only' (the third option) ... it says 'removed' when I open it... and when I try 'show in folder' it ain't there.

EDIT 2: for me it works best ATM when I save 'Webpage, Single File' ... but it doesn't quite look like the website does it? but it shows pics

do you know, scratching my head on this can this site not be mirrored? makes it much harder to take down especially if multiple mirrors world wide,  just a thought.

or if the ickes allow could they not allow the forum section to be cloned say using httrack or something. so everything is intact so if hacked its saved and as a added backup one of the senior mods goes to the wayback machine and runs a backup there regularly say every month . now let the fuckers take it down just saying.

nice site INK can i copy the info please.

(MHTML is slightly different)

Just to clarify, you are saving the MHTML file from Brave browser?

Can you try and 'Drag & drop' the saved MHTML file into  your Brave browser or Ctrl + o (Menu > Open File) and locate that file to open it up.

See if that works. (If so, you can change your OS settings to auto open MHTML files with Brave instead of wanting to open up in IE)

This is key to all files... saving files as low kB / MB / GB as possible - with the highest quality possible... I once remember listening to an MP2, it was two hours of Dr. Paul Laviolette talking, and it was ridiculously low file size... I didn't notice any difference from MP3.

Mate copy it .... but it is limited .... I stopped posting there as I saw that it could easily be removed .... so that is not complete!

But copy whatever you wish .... as said that site will be gone soon .... everything is on 'keys' which have been copied so will not be lost :)

I have put onto those keys near 200 videos as well :)

and they have gone from me so I don't care :)

as said .... my time is short .... so whatever lol

Yes it worked! I saved the file from Brave browser, and dragged the MHTML file to Brave.

CTRL + O didn't work... The file itself didn't have the IE logo it looks like this:

now with the added posts on this forum since the last save from this site the filesize went up to 1 487 kB (previous 1,12MB)

I couldn't edit that last post... the pics for some reason is at the bottom of the post, but whatever... you get the point, and it worked. So thanks for that save hint!

EDIT: last post I could not post initially, because "I was BLOCKED" ... so I posted without text... and I thought I'd post the pics separately, but they appeared nontheless though at the bottom of the post as I said.

EDIT2: I even tried to edit that last post - to rearrange the pics to correct spots.. but that post can't be edited

OK :)

(The MHTML format embeds all the code & images into that one file, hence the larger than normal file size. Saving it as HTML, will keep the mark up in just the HTML file, and the pictures etc, in a spearate folder.)

You can change your OS to open that MHTML file automatically when you double-click on it - so it will always open up in Brave :

Here will show you how to do that in Windows:

Thanks, but now I tried to CTRL + S another thread on this forum
using 'single file' option and 'complete' ... both turned out HTML... and 410 kB filezise. So when I saved this thread it became a MHTML file on the 'single file' option and no pics on 'complete' , but the other thread turned out as a HTML with both save options.

EDIT: I saved this thread again... 'complete' and it turned out HTML. 416 kB instead of the 1 478 kB MHTML. So now it worked.

Basically,

- MHTML has everything all in that file (as code, I think), ie embedded images, formatting etc.

- HTML 'single file', will have text/formatting

- HTML 'complete' will have text/formatting/images - but the images will be stored in a separate folder (So if you move the html files around for staorage, you need to move the folder too)

Most browsers can normally only save as 'html' but obviously Brave browser might be able to save web pages as HTML or MHTML

I am being thick - are you saying all the posts on here will dissapear when the forum restoration/migration happens? Especially the covid thread - that had a lot of information on it.

No

Its regarding the potential for future data loss

And how to mitigate that

People have made noise about loss of their personal posts and data

So some of us suggested forum users should back up their own data

Grumpy is expanding on that in this thread
