After I explained why the member of staffs counter argument was that it was ok was because 'Tesco have them as well' Ironically I'm probably now on the database for 'causing trouble' I'm sure that's a term they use in China lol The ICO have confirmed this afternoon, in response to Big Brother Watch's legal challenge against The Southern Co-op's use of facial recognition with tech supplied by Facewatch, that Facewatch is now under investigation. Apparently the technology includes adding members of the public to a secret blacklist making them "subjects of interest" for two years. https://ico.org.uk/about-the-ico/media-centre/ico-in-the-media/#media20220727 I know some harbour misgivings about Big Brother Watch so I am posting the video below for information purposes rather than as an endorsement. According the video filmed outside a West London branch of Co-op, all the warning given to customers about the operation of facial recognition in the store is a small sticker on the window. And, worse still, the cameras may have been manufactured by Chinese-state owned Hikvision - a firm which provides cameras for the CCP's concentration camps. 1
