I had a 'polite conversation' about these cameras when I refused to use the self service till because of them in my local co-op recently.

After I explained why the member of staffs counter argument was that it was ok was because 'Tesco have them as well' 😆

Ironically I'm probably now on the database for 'causing trouble'

I'm sure that's a term they use in China lol

The ICO have confirmed this afternoon, in response to Big Brother Watch's legal challenge against The Southern Co-op's use of facial recognition with tech supplied by Facewatch, that Facewatch is now under investigation. Apparently the technology includes adding members of the public to a secret blacklist making them "subjects of interest" for two years.

I know some harbour misgivings about Big Brother Watch so I am posting the video below for information purposes rather than as an endorsement.

According the video filmed outside a West London branch of Co-op, all the warning given to customers about the operation of facial recognition in the store is a small sticker on the window. And, worse still, the cameras may have been manufactured by Chinese-state owned Hikvision - a firm which provides cameras for the CCP's concentration camps.

I also think there is something not quite right about Big Brother Watch, but it's alarming regardless. Thanks for the extra info.

Off topic but public CCTV should be banned completely. Only property owners should be allowed to run CCTV not government.

And things seemed to last a lot longer then my folks had same washing machine for 30 odd years .

Very true, I remember those days well, the manufacturers that cared actually made their machines well and to last in the hope a customer would be loyal knowing that the rpoducts would last longe rthan the 1 or 3 year guarantee you get on most shit these days.  (all using the same parts made by LG)

Here I go again, putting (possibly) old tech into the 'new tech' thread, sorry enigmatic, take some of this with a large grain of salt but alot of it looks very legit,  I saw parts of these photos myself a long time back, and of course they will have been discussed on the forum before.
I put this in to show those who haven't seen any of these old pics something to think about.
In particular the ladies near the beginning holding what look to be mobile phone devices:

Apologies, I know this is a 'new' tech thread, but look at this super cool fridge they had way back in the 1950's compared to the overpriced plastic boxes we have today:

All tech news is welcome mate. It's not a thread just for new tech, it's a new tech thread because I had an older thread before this forum got hacked.
