When is the new forum due to go live? I have heard that threads on this forum are going to be transferred over to the new forum. Does this equate to all the threads created pre-hack as well? Or is it just the post-hack threads? I would really like to find out soon, if at all possible. :classic_sad:

With respect, this is incorrect. After the hack occurred, when you looked at other folk's profiles, then you could still see 'some' pre-hack threads they had posted on. You could also still see the text from the posts they had made. This is no different now and it is most easily illustrated by looking at the profile of someone who hasn't posted since the hack occurred. For example, this is the profile of 'size of light'. 'Something', at least, is backed up 'somewhere'.

If you click on any of those topics from SOL's profile page though, you get the "You do not have permission to view this content" error.

The 'content' is presumably still there, but I guess as all post data is stored in the database, the database records have been altered, perhaps moved to an unspecified 'category' that no-one has 'permission' to view.

If everything had been backed up on a regular basis, it would have been relatively quick and easy to restore it back again. Or at least should have been.

I very much hope that this current forum isn't the "new normal"...

Well, whatever the upshot is, I don't think that the baby pecker did a very good job at all. LOL. :classic_laugh:

I have no 'concrete' idea what went on there. From what I can gather, though, this forum was supposed to be very tough to hack. Unfortunately, this tough exterior did not extend to a malevolent force getting hold of an administrator's password, which could then obviously allow for all of the damage to be done from within. Maybe someone managed to get a keylogger installed on one of Jaymie's computers? I don't know that anyone does know 'exactly' how it all went down. Although I do have more knowledge than your average pc user, I am certainly no techie. I am only speculating. However, I do quite agree with you about the concept of backing everything up regardless.

The mass media seem to have ditched the 'new normal' narrative now. Haven't you noticed that? Personally, I reckon that they didn't want the sheeple openly entertaining the idea that anything could ever change. Ha ha ha. :classic_tongue:

I am by no means suggesting that we should reinstate all of the old forum sections, as we are supposedly due to migrate to a new forum in the near future. However, might it not be an idea to expand what we currently available just a little bit? For example, how about 'Today's News', 'Coronavirus', 'General Chat' and 'Silly Stuff'? It shouldn't take long to migrate some of the current threads to new sections and I think that it would be an improvement. Furthermore, for all we know, the new forum might turn out to be further away than we currently expect.

Ditto. If Gareth were to 'temporarily' mod me, for 24 hours or so, then I would be very happy to do it all. It would be a good thing to do and I have at least volunteered to do it.

Ok .... An update

Although this will not be a long post .... some definitions may help ....

  • old forum = the read only pre-March 2019 forum
  • hacked forum = the social forum from the closure of the old forum
  • new forum = the one being created which goes live on 10th July

There is much which has occurred even down to a 'hack' of the hacked forum back in January.  This was gotten over but then the old forum had 'problems'.

All of the 'Icke' websites have had many issues and they continue :(

The new forum is created and the time that it has taken is down to trying to convert the near 6 million posts from the old forum into the new structure .... this has not been successful.

Now the developers are trying just to re-create it into a read only once again.

The new forum goes live on the 10th of this month .... It will begin with the threads/posts made on this current temporary forum.

The hacked forum threads and posts .... have been lost.

No.

It was attempted to retrieve them via the caches held on search engines such as google and bing, also the wayback archive .... but all have seemingly deleted them from their results!

So it would seem that there was no backup, which is not a good look. There's no way to properly recover the forum from anything other than a proper database backup. Trying to do so from caches and wayback is frankly laughable.

Anything to retrieve it was tried.

And it isn't anywhere near a laughing matter.

I think the most important thing is to get a new, tight, structured forum going.

Get some consensus over top level topics so there is a way to navigate what's being posted better. Maybe 1 - 2 levels deeper and no more.

We don't have a lot of time.

Whatever remains of the old forum content could be made available even just as text (I'm used to long hours of rooting through garbage). I know a lot of precious stuff has been lost but there's no point. We just have to work with what we've got.

Attempting to restore a forum from bits scattered around the interwebs is a bit of a joke tbh. Not even close to being feasible. It's only slightly more doable than retyping in all the posts manually. It's more tragic than funny, and doesn't inspire confidence.

I'm not laughing but I am very disappointed. I waited long enough to join and even though I only contributed a couple hundred posts in 3 months, having my posts disappear into thin air is a bit crap. I'm sure there are others who have contributed for longer in both of the previous incarnations of the forum who will also be feeling let down.

Hopefully lessons will have been learned. The first rule of databases. REGULAR BACKUPS. Second Rule of databases REGULAR BACKUPS. (you get the idea). I understand that it isn't that easy to run a forum properly, however there is a certain minimum level of professionalism required. I also understand that it costs money, time, effort and skills to maintain that level and that some or all of those things are not always readily available.

Anyway....rant over. I'll wait and see what the new forum looks like but for now I need a moment to go and sulk in the corner.

Same as that .... what have I lost .... around 2500 posts (although some would say thats a blessing lol) for others it is even more! Take Muir, over 6000 posts :(

I hate the loss of data and information which could help in the coming times .... This was done by 'others' .... not the forum.

We either give the fuck up or move on once again!

It is our choice?

I don't mean any offense by this but I don't understand why peeps are upset at losing their posts.

Isn't this like having conversations and discussions? I don't record every verbal interaction I have, and frankly sometimes I'd rather forget what I said sometimes. Yes I'm very pleased with myself sometimes but that's a passing sensation like everything else. I don't seek to re-live it as there are so many more to come.

Bit pissed, sorry.

...and there's me pissed off and sulking at my carefully crafted 250+ posts getting nuked, lol.

Yes it was done by freedom hating c*nts that need a good slap upside their heads.

It was done by others, however it should have been anticipated that this would happen and reasonable measures taken to mitigate the attacks. Is the shiny new fangled forum going to be exposed in the same way? If so then for me it's not worth my while posting if it's likely to disappear again because there will surely be more hack attacks in the future.

Indeed, and I need a moment to compose myself and figure out if I want to continue posting in a forum that may be vulnerable. Like I said earlier, not at all confidence inspiring.

Now I get it that some people consider stuff posted on the internet to be "disposable trash", but I value what I post and my interactions with others. It gives a good snapshot, a bit like a diary or a journal, and if there's a good chance that it's all going to get nuked again, then I'm less likely to want to put in the effort to post and engage.
