I remember as a child being petrified of space when I was told about the sun going into a super nova but that wasn't expected for another 40million years. That and a giant asteroid. Cheers for that man My dad had the Carl Sagan book 'Cosmos' that I'd often read when skiving off school. It has some great artist's impressions of the last stages of earth being destroyed by the expanding sun, and the oceans receding then completely evaporating off into space. I was also quite scared by that prospect as a child. Agreed, it's a shame kids have consistently been conditioned to fear some catastrophe or another.
