My dear Mum had an infestation of mice in her apartment and read up that peppermint oil on cotton wool buds aall aroundth place would work to evict them distract them. Didn't work. They were popping up in her towel basket, even though she has a well fed cat! We had to eventually get expensive get professional help. No alternative if it's bad and a health hazard :O( l've used used 'humane traps' that trap a mouse in a plastic tube and then let them out in the garden in the morning.
