Given To Fly
On 2/28/2021 at 8:56 PM, Edgecrusher said: This is off and on topic but... Pearl Jam have always been one of my favourite bands but has anyone noticed how much they're on the Covid bandwagon through this? I know they've always had a bit to say politically but not like this. It's actually turned my stomach and has done my head in a bit, especially with the Chris Cornell rumours and him and Eddie Vedder's friendship... Anyone have any thoughts? sad to say but pearl jam are indeed now part of the problem with their 'activism' and some of their lyrics which reach millions and millions worldwide. still my best band ever, though. the last video they released in their single 'retrograde' had that demonically possessed puppet greta thunberg in CGI in it. they used to take it to the 'man' (ticketmaster etc) and oppose wars and greed and even openly criticise democrat politicians, as well as vilifying republicans, but i remember when obama was running for his second and pearl jam released a statement showing their support for him and eddie vedder saying that they wouldn't be the band they are or even in existence if it wasn't for government help and assistance in getting musical instruments and studio time etc. so basically it was more/big government helped them so will help other up and coming bands. they are humanitarian to the core but of that pukish liberal posture. I have struggled with music through this, have lost all interest. I thought I'd be able to turn a blind eye to the politics and enjoy it for what it is but I just can't. I think the fact is, is that it just being music isn't what it just is – it's way more than many people realise, or would ever admit to. I've grown up with rock music, and Pearl Jam in particular. I thought Pearl Jam were a bit apart from that scene though, a big band, but not that big, you know... Like you say, they still reach millions of people of a certain "type", which makes sense. Need to get across the agenda to all types, not just teeny boppers. Am a fan of Tool too but again, that lot have kept their mouths shut. And I've seen Marillion coming back at Hammersmith, no doubt trialing digital passports rather than calling it out for what it is. I can't say I'm surprised but I think the tentacles run deeper in music than just the mega bands and personalities. Pearl Jam have really done my head in though. Wouldn't be shocked now if one of them turned out to be a women all along!!! Thanks for the reply – forgot I'd posted this.

Loved Rowing. Since CD's I stopped looked at the covers so much so have missed some of that. The days of laying on the bed and going through covers and lyrics over and over has long gone for me. I didn't even give Gigaton the time in the end. I'm not surprised there's been a bit of a backlash about certain things on their forum, but I doubt they're even listening now... Has the Covid scam ruined music for you? It has me, I want no part of it. Wish I didn't feel that way but can't get past the lack of dissenting voices.
