Sentient Being
I can second the use of ProtonMail as I have had it at as a second account for a while. It started out as a beta and there were a few issues but they've sorted most of them out now. Just make sure your password is as strong as possible which is pretty much a no-brainer anyway. People have been volunteering their personal information for ages. Anyone who signs up for FB, Twitter, on any other 'social media' app is laying open their lives for all to see. Now some enjoy this and some make money from it. But those of us who don't give a flying fuck who 'likes' us or shares what we post, avoid them like the plague. As far as we can see, they gained access to the admin panel, which doesn't store passwords. IPs and email addresses only. There are no bank details stored on this server, or any of our servers. To add to this, all the hackers would have been able to obtain were members email addresses and their passwords to log in to this forum. Everyone should at a bare minimum change their password here, then at least the hackers can't login here with your details. If you use the same email/password combination elsewhere, then you should consider changing your password for those sites too. But the hackers won't know what other sites you use, so they may not directly target those. Your email address/password combination will end up on various 'lists' though, something like this happened to me a while back. 'Free' email services like Gmail, Hotmail, YahooMail, even ProtonMail, come at a cost though. as you're never fully in control. Many years ago now I bought a domain name and some webhosting for my own personal email address(es). And for websites much as this one, I have another domain name, which doesn't have an email 'account' but simply forwards emails to another address, so there's little risk of this email account being 'hacked'. Like with this whole coronavirus pandemic, people should be concerned and take precautions when neccessary, but be careful not to go too over the top. Well you are logged in so your current password, which you used to login, must work. As long as your email address is a real and functional one (you need this to receive mail from the forum) .... then sign out and use the 'forgotten password' option .... which will allow you to change it! Yes, thanks ink; I’ve stayed logged in since the hack; I didn’t think of the logging out bit to change password; thanks. I’ve used ProtonMail for quite a while now so pretty safe. No comment. I'll save my response for an appropriate thread in the future new fangled secure forum most likely appended to the end of Golden Retrievers "Vegan Agenda" thread. Poem was alright...a bit too much explanation at the end, would have preferred the "pome" (American pronunciation) by itself.
