The Flat Earth/Globe Earth Discussion Thread

Using balloons to prove a point about the shape of the Earth inevitably leads other enthusiasts to use small unmanned balloons to circumnavigate the world and whilst travelling around the globe nonstop in a large one is still a very dangerous activity actually setting an altitude record in one technically should be a shorter duration challenge. The technology has moved on a bit too.

@serpentine wheres the curvature?

standing on a cliff or a beach ... wheres the sodding curvature?

To the naked eye or viewer the curvature of the Earth can not be seen from sea level or cliff top level because the human eye isn't a high precision measuring device but that doesn't mean that the Earth isn't spherical.

Because the body is denser

Water is below air

Some things float

Some don't

Spherist science makes everything far more complicated

Let me ask you, why there is no observed curvature when viewing land ahead?

Because the field of view is not wide enough from the observer's perspective and if you are not looking out sea you have the topography of the land to contend with ,however the pic of the horizon on the water with the red line that the flat one put up as evidence definitely showed curvature

Typical I just answered your question  and you didn't answer mine

water is below air ,some things float and some don't, well how can I argue with that logic

It pains me to ask this question again but if the world is flat how come you cant see 300 miles while standing on the beach ,if you go up 30 feet ,you can see further ,if you go up to 100 feet you can see further still, why?

I will give you an other opportunity to answer

Then I'm done

Fs,

Is that the bleeepin best the spherist can do?

Just get your coat and don't let the door hit you on your way out

Well I could travel fully clothed to the coast by train but the cost of tickets is currently up around 300%, there's no cheap off peak "have it away" day returns available, I would have to wear a mask there and back, book online in advance and worse still they have temporarily done away with first class which would mean sharing mind space with some very umpleasant thought patterns.

Talking of successful circumnavigations of the globe though such trips rely on using the jetstreams and the jetstreams are of course ndicative of rotating spherical planets with atmospheres which orbit and are being heated by not too distant stars.

They can't see any curvature zArk  b/c there isn't any.  Why are they always looking out to sea? Try looking from the top of the Eiffel tower or better still the Empire state building. The horizons are flat,  it's down to our perspective that we don't see any further.

That picture was not inserted into my post by me btw.

At base level all it needs is for someone to go back to the Bedford levels with a series of 30 foot  poles and a laser range finding device on a series of clear days and with the extra height to avoid most of the atmospheric optical refraction and distortion the stake would finally be put through the heart of FlatEarthDom.

That this hasn't been done shows Britian still has a tolerant soft spot for it's oddballs and eccentrics.

The Konyukov flight seems to have been set back from it's Spring 2020 launch. Unsure precisely why this might be but hopefully there will be high quality high definition nonstop footage of the outside view of the flight that doesn't cut away at the critical point to show a random crowd of gawping people looking skywards or back to the studio catching two young presenters outrageously flirting :classic_huh:

@oddsnsods At base level, this just comes down to optical reciprocal concepts and more

alexa ,could you please explain to me what an optical reciprocal concept is and also elaborate on the more just a tad

Come on zArk weather the  statement is right or wrong ,just using a throw away put down, shows a definite lack of fortitude and cognitive ability in my estimation.

how about a novel approach, a step by step logical progression to your argument with regards to your  opposing view  of serpentine's statement

Come on zArk  think ,I'm sure you can do it

Ps I'm still waiting for an answer to the questions I posed earlier ,I understand you are probably busy  and simply forgot

Kings dethroned

a history of the evolution of astronomy from the time of the roman empire up to the present day; showing it to be an amazing series of blunders founded upon an error made in the second century B.C.

The application of reciprocity principles in optics has a long history that goes back to Stokes, Lorentz, Helmholtz and others. Moreover, optical applications need to be seen in the context of applications of reciprocity seen as one.

come on that's from wikishit  you haven't explained anything , it may have a long history but what are the principles ,you have said nothing but it sounds good, Stokes and Lorentz I'm familiar with Helmholtz and others not so ,I would like to know who the others are

Seen as one what , as in number1, a singularity ,cat or  dog , be specific

Bingo!

Anyone who can't figure it out from here is lost when it comes to simple research.

Good to see you back Mr flat, I see you haven't changed though ,somethinginthecrowd can't too far behind

Oh and you haven't explained it either

Bingo    would that be legs 11

Near 100 year old books self published by authors lacking even the most basic peer reviewing isn't acceptible science by any stretch of the imagination.

Modern heliocentric estimates put the Sun's mass at 99% of the total mass of the solar system and it just wouldn't do for Her to go gallivanting around the sky. :classic_unsure:

Take the time to read it. If you are capable of high school mathematics and are able to understand his basic points, it will all become clear. The book is a true masterpiece.

If this was a zoo, I'd be flogging rainmacks at the ticket queue

N.b true story, at a v festival many years ago my friend who was an inhabitant of shithole festivals ran back to the tent at 1 pm for his poncho. Fecking clear skies, boiling. At 10.30 watching the chili peppers I found out why a poncho was needed.....after many years at grown up music festivals my appreciation for the type of neanderthal morons who piss in their pint pot then throw it, then have a fight with someone in front was heightened

I was anally frisked for a nugget of cannabis, god forbid but where those gorillas went when the main stage was raining piss has stayed with me to this day
