Think about what dishonesty does to any kind of relationship, never mind the one between a government and its citizens. It may allow for temporary control, maybe it will work in some dysfunctional way, but it is never healthy and it never lasts. Telling the truth is easy, if you lie you're forced to either admit it and face the consequences or tie yourself up in knots with bigger more grandiose lies to stop people discovering the reality. The truth will out, everybody will lose trust, we will win. The only question is how long it will take and how much suffering will have to be endured before this point.
