I recall one of the plot points of the film They Live! is that all the hero needs to do is destroy a satellite uplink and the transmissions that manipulate mass perception will then cease and people will immediately see the truth as reality, whether they like it or not. This is slightly misleading. To see the truth of something, each person has to make their own effort. Or do they? Am I right or wrong about that? You decide and maybe add a comment. My contention is that John Carpenter got this bit slightly wrong in the film. The truth can't be 'received', it has to be seen/observed, learned in abstract or intuited, or it's not really truth, it's just something somebody told you.
