The law states that police and PCSOs can break up gatherings outdoors and constables use 'reasonable force' if necessary. 

Local authorities will also keep powers to control public gatherings and specific premises in their areas until July 17, rather than January 17 as previously.

A PCSO using force? That's a laugh. They'd run a mile if somebody looked at them sideways. I often wondered what happened to park keepers, now I know,. They became PCSOs.

I do wonder why it drops precipitously around the turn-of-the-century and the decline in deaths continues for about 12 or so years, despite an immigration wave coinciding with that period, then starts going up again in around 2011.  My best guess is that it is down to three factors: ,(i). a positive covariance of historic birth rates with current death rates (in other words, if less babies were born in the late 1920s/early 1930s, this means less deaths in the period those people hit the typical mortality age, which is 2000 to 2010); (ii). lot of older British people started leaving the country in large numbers due to the social effects of Labour government immigration policies, while younger people came in to the country; (iii). at the same time, the Labour government started pumping money into the NHS, which may have meant more survived in hospital.

My "prediction" that total deaths will be probably around 612,000. I state that figure using monthly totals from ONS for Jan - Nov 2020, then adding my "estimated" total for Dec.  The Dec total is not published until 26th Jan.  I note that the table quoted estimate is lower at 561,529. (An even BETTER number for my argument!)

 

In 1993 (there was a flu epidemic) and the total that year was 578,512.

 

Bearing in mind that the UK population in 1993 was 10,000,000 (10 million) LESS than now then the total of 612,000 is not unexpected.

 

Reason 578,512 (deaths) was 1% of total population in 1993.

1% of the extra 10,000,000 is 100,000 so adding the 100,000 to the 578,512 gives expected value of 678,512.

THAT means THIS YEAR's TOTAL is less than what would be expected for a flu!

 

Population UK in 1993 was 57,602,278.

Population UK in 2020 was 67,886,004 (Farage and others may claim it is even more than that!).

OR

Assume as for 1993 that 1% of total population is to die from "flu" then 1% of 67,886,004 is 678,860. mmm, very close to figure above AND higher than THIS YEAR's expected value of 612,000.

 

Any comments and checks on my arithmetic greatly appreciated BUT CLEARLY we can see from the numbers that there is NO PANDEMIC - yes I know we on here know that!

 

I may be mistaken but I think a similar situation with death numbers also applies to America!
