Nutrition for plants is key. SOLUTION No.1- First, start a worm bin: fifteen layers of moist newspaper at the bottom of a large plastic storage container for safe bedding. Collect some small red worms from any outdoor location. Manure piles are the best place to find them. Pop them in. Drop potato or carrot peels, greens, old tea bags, egg shells, manure, grass clippings, sawdust on top. No onions or citrus peels. Cover with plastic bags or old jay cloths to keep light out. Keep it moist. After a few months of feeding them kitchen waste you’ll have hundreds of worms to make new worm bins and top quality organic fertiliser. Dry the casts then mix with compost or use as a mulch in your garden, grow bags or pots or use it as a grow medium on its own. I have parrots and feed them fruits and vegetables that they never quite finish. I used to just throw it in he trash, but I now compost using red wigglers and the Urban Worm Bag. I've had it for a few years, but it still amazes me how fast the worms can break down food. I scrape away the dry cardboard shreds on top (that I make from a paper shredder) on half of the bin until I get to the bedding, where I usually put 1 qt or more of scraps and ground egg shells for PH balance. The next day I repeat the process on the other half. When I return back to the first half, all of scraps I deposited 2 days prior, is gone. Plants thrive in the vermicompost too. Although I am only just getting to know these two 'awake' people in my locality, it still shocks when you hear of someone affected by this stuff. I have a friend who has a number of friends and acquaintances who have many 'sudden' health conditions and another friend who has a number of her friends grandparents die over the last 12 months.
