I often think about people in these positions. Naturally, and rightly, we focus on the corruption. You're always expected to behave in a certain way, and there's always this expectation to glorify things, or else make them seem like a grave threat. Like in a Tale of Two Cities, it's always the best of times, or the worst of times. It's always the most important election ever that will define the world for generations to come. If I was as rich as them, I would be doing something enjoyable. I suppose they don't look at it that way, I suppose that they're driven by ego, attention-seeking, what they perceive to be duty, and they ultimately can't enjoy themselves. Maybe once they get to that level, there's too much dirt, and the only way they can preserve themselves is to play ball with what is required of them. If it was me, I would hope that I would take a step back and realise that life is too short to waste on such nonsense as performing before the camera in a vain attempt to convince people that I care about what happened in Portugal during the Second World War because I'm the Foreign Secretary and I'm supposed to know about it (although it's not entirely clear why I'm supposed to know about it). 4 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
