The three pandemics last century - Spanish Flu, Asian Flu, Hong Kong Flu - blew themselves out after a couple of years. We're approaching a couple of years with this one (if you believe it exists), so why wouldn't it also fizzle out, especially as it's no deadlier than those three? They obviously don't want to sit back and allow that to happen, hence the rush to get the booster shots into as many as possible, thereby further weakening immune systems and leaving people vulnerable to winter bugs they would normally brush off.
