An annual festival in my town which dates back to 1140, when King David granted us the status of a Royal Burgh, has been celebrated in June, from that time until this year, when it was cancelled for covid. It was rescheduled for September 4th and I attended. A procession which would normally have had a dozen pipe bands from all over the area, mounted horses, floats and fancy dress, which lasted for an hour, was over in about ten minutes, with one marching pipe band and a brass band.

 

I joked with my companion about how the kids would probably be dressed up as the ‘coronavirus’ lol, I wasn’t far wrong. The school children in the much scaled down parade were dressed as the emergency services, nurses, doctors, paramedics and police.  Everyone cheered. The next contingent were ‘rainbow people’ with everyone dressed in the LGTBQ emblem, or is it the NHS?

 

It was the ‘wokest’ thing I’ve ever seen. The ceremony where the Gala Queen is crowned was held in a park and you required a paper wrist band to enter, for no apparent reason, other than to condition you to having a “pass.”  The town would usually be heaving with throngs of people, a fair ground and many other activities which spanned a whole week. It was pathetic. Thank you Nicola Sturgeon.

New Zealand Jewish Council spokeswoman Juliet Moses told the Herald they are seeing more and more comparisons between Covid-19 and the Holocaust and says it is a "gross trivialisation of the suffering" caused.

 

"I feel a combination of disgust, concern and exhaustion, because we are seeing these sorts of comparisons more regularly.

"Our community still has Holocaust survivors, as well as many descendants of survivors and victims.

"The comparison - and especially the reference to the 'Final Solution' - is certainly hurtful and disturbing.

"Even outlining why the comparison is absurd and offensive risks giving it credence it doesn't warrant. But it's important to note that the Nazi regime and the Holocaust it engineered saw the industrialised genocide of six million Jews - that is, the 'Final Solution'.

"Any comparison between the Government's response to the pandemic and the Nazi regime is a gross trivialisation of the suffering and loss of life that occurred under the Nazis. It is what the Holocaust scholar Professor Deborah Lipstadt terms 'soft core Holocaust denial'."

 

Moses added that those who oppose Government responses often invoke antisemitic conspiracy theories in doing so, including Holocaust trivialisation in relation to the pandemic.

 

She suggested those making the comparisons should "get better educated about what occurred" and "if they want to criticise the Government's Covid-19 response, they should do so without invoking the Nazi regime or the Holocaust".

The Herald contacted The Eagle establishment for comment.

When asked about their intention behind the sign, they said "no comment".

The messaging has sparked backlash on social media with a number of people calling the pub's decision to promote the sign as "disgusting".

"If you had an even basic level understanding of history you would know this is not funny and deeply offensive #ignorance101," one person wrote.

 

Another said: "This is really off. Not even funny. As an Aucklander in their 5th lockdown and a westie whose got friends affected by floods and stabbings I find this offensive. Not a dollar from my whanau goes to the Eagle you sick b*****ds."

Others weighed in calling the sign "embarrassing", "disgusting" and said it's "a place to avoid".

Bluff is currently under alert level 3 restrictions where pubs and restaurants are still closed for dining in but can open and provide contactless takeaway options.

Simple solution for both sides - replace Adolf with either Stalin or Mao. I'm fairly sure that both regimes massacred or starved far more than Hitler did.

 

Though I guess any establishment doing that will be burned to a crisp by Antifa.

It might, but how about using all the jabs left over on them mandating that they have at least one a month for the rest of their natural lives,any minor rule infarctions ie crossing when the green man aint showing ,going the wrong way round Ikea they get another jab per offence

4. A NEW CURRENCY: Although gift economies and barter economies have some positive aspects to them they may have limitations on a larger scale. They could be incorporated into a parallel economy but arguably a parallel economy is going to need a means of exchange. Their 'fiat' currency is not pegged to anything tangible and only has value because people perceive it to have value. If we could replace that system with an alternative we could remove much of their wealth and power eg some people have suggested adopting the Bradbury Pound in the UK.

5. PUT A FOCUS ON FOOD PRODUCTION: At the end of the day the most essential thing to exist is food. Some would say water but unless you live in a dry country water tends to be available.
