You couldn't make this stuff up:

Quote

"Amid the coronavirus pandemic, France is faced with a paradox: It has just made the wearing of masks compulsory in certain public spaces, but maintained the years-long ban on Muslim full-face veils. This suggests, as the Washington Post recently noted, “if an observant Muslim woman wanted to get on the Paris Metro, she would be required to remove her burqa and replace it with a mask”." https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2020/5/15/coronavirus-exposed-the-real-reasons-behind-frances-burqa-ban

🤣🤣🤣 @BossCrow I'm laughing my arse off reading this.

"the burqa is seen as a method of dehumanisation by men over women under the shonky guise of religion and a security risk because it conceals identity" [ https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/rendezview/the-burqa-is-about-control-and-subjugation-of-women-not-religion/news-story/84747fc6356568b277c65942ace9f45d ]

Yeah. I know. We wouldn't want to conceal anyone's identity in a modern free society, would we?

😄 Yeah. I'll see what I can come uip with.

Agreed. It's funny how countries that were keen on 'banning the burka'  have done a complete 180 despite no scientific evidence for the mask wearing they railed against just a few years ago.

@BossCrow What do you think? 😅

"The wearing of masks

The person who wears the mask is also considered to be in direct association with the mask’s spirit force and is consequently exposed to like personal danger of being affected by it. For the sake of protection, the wearer, like the mask maker, is required to follow certain sanctioned procedures in using the mask. In some respects he plays the role of an actor in cooperation or collaboration with the mask. Without the dance and posturing routines that the mask wearer performs, often to the accompaniment of music, the mask would remain a representation without a full life-force. The real drama and power of its form is the important contribution of the wearer. Covered by the mask and costume, the performer loses his previous identity and assumes a new one. Upon donning the mask, the wearer sometimes undergoes a psychic change and as in a trance assumes the spirit character depicted by the mask. Usually, however, the wearer skillfully becomes a “partner” of the character he is impersonating, giving to the mask not only an important spark of vitality by the light flashing from his own eyes but also bringing it alive by his movements and poses. But often the wearer seems to become psychologically one with the character he is helping to create. He seems to become an automaton, without his own will, which has become subservient to that of the personage of the mask. At all times there remains some important, even if sub rosa, association between the mask and its wearer."

Excellent. Shouldn't the top line say 'covering' though?

I was thinking more like if they uncovered in an arab country in 2001 they'd be arrested. Now they're arrested in the west for doing the same thing lol. But you're right. Could be confusing.

Welcome to the movie. We're in it.

Great film. Watched it a few months ago. I think you recommended it to me, thanks for the suggestion. Mike Judge is a genius but this film had passed me by. Apparently the studio did virtually nothing to promote it (probably knew it was coming in reality soon enough). 😄

Ture. The elites' interest in the classical world probably comes from their exusive education. But I cannot help thinking there is a lot more behind it. Let's face it. If slave owning Athens could also be considered the birth place of democracy, then anything goes: you will own nothing and be happy.

Actually I think it's time I re-watch this... along with Beavis and Butthead. 😎 Hey have you ever seen  Beavis and Butt-Head Do America (1996) ? Another god damned masterpiece in my view.
