Odd situation there with a government formed between the two biggest historical rivals, and the PM position changing hands after two years. Fianna Fail the party of the current PM were losing ground on the rest and only really got into power because of the situation, so I think they see this as their one shot at turning it in their favour, winning support by "suppressing" the virus with more draconian measures. I'm Irish myself and got out of there about a month ago to travel in mainland Europe. Feeling quite happy with that decision at the moment, its looking like a sinking ship.
