Not sure what the specific guidelines are for filing a lawsuit are in any given area but I can say from personal experience that assuming my own defence I was able to say things and introduce evidence lawyers are normally reluctant to. It is rumored that having a lawyer can sometimes be worst than on your own. Your line of questioning for any witnesses is greatly enhanced when you assume the task of processing your case personally.
