Screamingeagle
Nova Scotia has introduced a ban on entering woodlands, for hiking, hunting, fishing or camping, to prevent forest fires during a hot spell. Vehicles are also prohibited on trails. There are currently no such fires in the country. Fines of $25,000 will be imposed on offenders defying the "climate lockdown." This includes people who own woodland property who are forbidden from allowing visitors to enter their woods. https://news.novascotia.ca/en/2025/08/05/travel-activities-woods-restricted-prevent-wildfires 1 1

Velma
Ironically, it's this type of government overreach and control that makes me want to live off-grid in the woods! 2

What is the fine if you actually cause a fire, less than the forbidden zone fine? Maybe they need some scary warning signs around the perimeter to keep people out. 1

Which is no use for drinking, and not for watering your gardens either!

I mean the size of my water bill nowadays, the water companies must be using the most high tech equipment ever in the history of mankind Plus taking into account the large amount of rainfall they get in nova scotia, i can't see a genuine water crisis

In a 38C temperature and no wind, I wonder what is there to do in the woods anyway. Whether some fires were set deliberately or not, I agree that people should stay out of the woods even though I’m an outdoorsman myself. The fines seem high at first glance but if one is caught setting a fire (s), he deserves to pay the bill. Think of how much it costs to have waterbombers spraying daily struggling to control them, let alone putting them out. We have one major fire burning here close by and it’s been out of control for about 2 weeks now and so far my house is safe … for now Btw I should mention that we’re also getting help from the province of Quebec. Thank you And guess what? Not much rain in the forecast either…
