I've tried to find out why Moloch is associated with Game Theory. At first glance, it seems to be linked to the Jewish American poet Allen Ginsberg, but I'm not so sure, seeing as the history of Game Theory has a distinctly Jewish influence, such as John von Neumann, a major figure in modern game theory, and in building the mathematical framework of quantum physics, in the development of functional analysis; introducing or codifying concepts including cellular automata, the universal constructor and the digital computer. His analysis of the structure of self-replication preceded the discovery of the structure of DNA.

"The Moloch Principle refers to the dynamics within a game, where a force drives, coheres and coerces contending players to make decisions and take actions which, which may appear to be locally optimal to that player, but actually requires them to give up other less important interests or values, other than winning the game. The upshot being that it unavoidably leads to deleterious circumstances of the overall game in which they are all playing. This leads the other competing players to do the same, which continually escalates the game, which if finite, will lead to the termination of the game, with no winners. Moreover, all players involved are unable to unilaterally break out of the dynamic or game, being continually incentivised to uplevel, to address the opposing competition in order to stay in the optimal position within the game. Part II is about the state of industrial civilization, characterized in the poem as "Moloch". Ginsberg was inspired to write Part II during a period of peyote-induced visionary consciousness in which he saw a hotel façade as a monstrous and horrible visage which he identified with that of Moloch, the Biblical idol in Leviticus to whom the Canaanites sacrificed children.^[22]

 

Ginsberg intends that the characters he portrays in Part I be understood to have been sacrificed to this idol. Moloch is also the name of an industrial, demonic figure in Fritz Lang's Metropolis, a film that Ginsberg credits with influencing "Howl, Part II" in his annotations for the poem (see especially Howl: Original Draft Facsimile, Transcript & Variant Versions).

On the subject of games, the famed money-saving expert, Martin Lewis, recently (just before Christmas) went public with his love of board games and their benefits in his latest TV show, "How to Win at Board Games", aired on ITV.

The Earth Charter, launched in 2000, is a declaration of values to underpin a global society. This Club wants a UN-based world government to solve environmental problems. Two of the Club’s members were Gorbachev and Strong.

The Esalen Institute, commonly called Esalen, is a non-profit American retreat center and intentional community in Big Sur, California, which focuses on humanistic alternative education. The institute played a key role in the Human Potential Movement beginning in the 1960s. Its innovative use of encounter groups, a focus on the mind-body connection, and their ongoing experimentation in personal awareness introduced many ideas that later became mainstream.

Esalen’s Soviet–American Exchange Program 

 

In 1979, Esalen began the Soviet–American Exchange Program (later renamed: Track Two, an institute for citizen diplomacy).[86] This initiative came at a time when Cold War tensions were at their peak. The program was credited with substantial success in fostering peaceful private exchanges between citizens of the "super powers".[87]  In 1989, Esalen brought Boris Yeltsin on his first trip to the United States, although Yeltsin did not visit the Esalen facility in Big Sur.
