Baphomet was a deity that the Knights Templers were accused of worshipping in blasphemous ceremonies in the 14th-century and were imprisoned by King Philip IV of France. Some of them that were tortured admitted to worshipping Baphomet. In 1856, Éliphas Lévi drew the first depiction of Baphomet that took the form of a semi-human-semi-goat hermaphrodite, with a caduceus where an erect phallus should be and its arms (one female and the other male) in the “As Above So Below” position. The principle of “As Above So Below” is thought to be in relation to the macrocosm (the realm of God) and the microcosm (our physical world) and how through the Tree of Life, we may learn to unite them, thus accomplishing the Great Work. According to Tracy Twyman, in her book ‘Temple Mystery Unveiled’, Éliphas explained that Baphomet was “a symbol of transcendental power beyond good and evil, man and beast, or male and female energies, capable of performing any transformation of matter that the human mind could conceive” and represented the “synthesis of all energy, both on Earth and in Heaven”. This was echoed by Freemason Albert Pike, who described Baphomet as the magical force of the universe, while occultist Aleister Crowley described Baphomet as being representative of “arcane perfection” through a union of opposites. In mystical and occult traditions, Baphomet represents the sum of our entire universe and all its opposing forces, and rather than being a symbol of evil, represents enlightenment and wisdom. Baphomet is not the first horned-deity to be worshipped of course and other deities with similar characteristics include Ammon, Khnum, Naigamesha, Kherty, Cernunnos, and Pan. Cernunnos, for example, was a horned-deity in Celtic mythology and was associated with sexuality and the hunt. On the Pillar of the Boatmen (which is the oldest known monument in Paris, dating back 2,000 years) Cernunnos is shown with horns while sitting cross-legged, providing a direct parallel to Éliphas’ depiction of Baphomet.

Baphomet is a symbol that has generated intrigue and controversy throughout history. It’s associated with occultism, mystery traditions, and the Knights Templar. While its origins and meanings are subject to interpretation, some individuals have proposed intriguing parallels between Baphomet and Christ. A notable parallel lie in their association with duality. Baphomet’s depicted as androgynous in nature and represents the equilibration of opposites and the integration of masculine and feminine energies. Christ is likewise depicted (especially in paintings) as androgynous and in ancient text is sometimes described as a merging of the male and the female. Drawing from the insights of the 15th-century 'Book of the Holy Treaty', historian Leah De Vun describes the text as saying that Christ and Mary were originally a unified entity -- an alchemical hermaphrodite. Describing the text -- De Vun characterizes Christ as the “ultimate hermaphrodite, a unity of contrary parts, the human and the divine, the male and the female”. This idea of Christ as a hermaphrodite finds support in the writings of early Christian theologian Hippolytus, who, like the Ophites, considered Christ to be of dual genders.1 Artistic representations of Christ, such as the painting "The Lamentation around the remains of Christ", underscore this idea, showing Christ with female breasts akin to Baphomet. Some propose that the name "Jesus Christ" could represent the merging of two distinct entities or names into one. This idea is bolstered by the identification of "Jesus" as an ancient name for Isis, referred to as "Esus" in hieroglyphic inscriptions,2 and "Christ" as a name historically associated with Osiris (see the book 'Christ in Egypt: The Horus-Jesus Connection'). Within this framework, Isis and Osiris serve as possible precursors for the Biblical figures Mary and Christ.

This union or merging of Mary and Christ into a hermaphrodite like Baphomet represent twin souls becoming one and the accomplishment of the Philosopher’s Stone. The Philosopher’s Stone represents the alchemical process of inner transformation, leading to the ultimate goal of Divine Union. Divine Union refers to a spiritual state of unity and connection with the divine or higher consciousness. In essence, it refers to the coming together of twin souls, similar to how Christ merges with Mary or how Osiris merges with Isis. According to Manly Palmer Hall, in his book ‘Initiates of the Flame’, the “marriage of the Sun and Moon" represents the accomplishment of the Philosopher’s Stone. For the ancient Egyptians, the Moon represented Isis and the Sun represented Osiris and their union created Horus who was the fusion of both his parents and a divine hermaphrodite. In his book ‘Gods Wear Spandex’, Chris Knowles says: “The Chemical Wedding referred to the work of the alchemists, who sought to marry the masculine and feminine properties of creation and produce the Royal Hermaphrodite, which some historians have linked to Harpocrates (Younger Horus)”. Philosopher Jeremy Naydler (who holds a doctorate in theology and religious studies) explains: "Strictly speaking -- that Osiris merged with Isis is thus the essential middle term in Horus's rebirth. Horus can be seen arising directly out of Osiris's thighs, implying that the Isis principle is here incorporated within the recumbent figure of Osiris". In the ancient mysteries, the ultimate aim of the philosophers was not to transform lead chemically into gold, but transform man and woman into the divine hermaphrodite, merging the opposites; the male and the female, as Osiris merges with Isis. This is ultimately what Baphomet represents. It represents the idea that true spiritual enlightenment and wholeness come from embracing and integrating both the masculine and feminine aspects of creation. This union of opposites is seen as a path to spiritual balance and ultimate transcendence. This integration of the male and female is also represented by Rebis, which is a 15th-century figure used to symbolize the Magnum Opus or Great Work.

The connections between Christ and Baphomet are not widely recognized or agreed upon, but esoteric interpretations have been proposed. For example, in his book ‘Baphomet of Éliphas Lévi’, Abraxas Aletheia argues that Baphomet is an esoteric symbol of Christ, saying: “Contrary to popular belief, Baphomet is an image of an esoteric Jesus Christ created from a composite of alchemical, Kabbalistic and Christian symbols”. One such connection symbolically between Baphomet and Christ can be found in Baphomet’s caducous which matches the Christogram which is a monogram or combination of letters that forms an abbreviation for Christ’s name. One of Baphomet's most recognizable symbols is the pentagram emblazoned on its forehead. The pentagram is commonly associated with Christ. In Christian tradition, the pentagram is seen as a symbolic connection to the five wounds of Christ. In certain esoteric traditions, the pentagram has been linked to the planet Venus, called the Morning Star or the Evening Star, depending on its appearance in the sky. This is of relevance, because Christ describes himself as the bright Morning Star in the Book of Revelation (22:16). One of the earliest connections between Baphomet and Christ can be found in the mythology surrounding the Knights Templar, a medieval Christian military order. Some have suggested that the Baphomet head that the Knights Templars venerated was the head of Christ. In her book ‘The Templars: The Secret History Revealed’, Barbara Frale says: “The last point raised in the indictment against the Templars concerned the secret veneration of an idol in the shape of a bearded head. There's clear evidence of the existence of image of Christ in the religious life of the order, as well as a mysterious cult devoted to the Sacred Blood”. Frale’s essentially suggesting that the Baphomet head was that of Christ. This same idea was the subject of the book ‘The Head of God: The Lost Treasure of the Templars’, by Keith Laidler.

image-161.png

In his 1887 book ‘The Gnostics and Their Remains’, Charles King connects Baphomet to Osiris, saying: “Interesting above the rest for the part it played in medieval superstition is the Osiris, or old man, with radiated head, a terminal figure always shown in front face with arms crossed on the breast; the true Baphomet of the Templars”. Meanwhile, Lévi equated Baphomet with the “Goat of Mendes” which was believed to be “Banebdjedet” and Greek philosopher Plutarch links Osiris to the "Goat of Mendes". However, some have suggested that this might be a misinterpretation. According to the article ‘The Baphomet’, Brain Pitkin says: “Lévi incorrectly equated Baphomet with the Goat of Mendes, an ancient Egyptian deity whose name should more properly be translated as: Harpocrates, the Ram of Mendes”. Harpocrates was Horus in child-form and Horus was the reborn Osiris. The syncretism of traditions in ancient Egypt led to the identification of Harpocrates with the ram-headed deity of Mendes. This association can be seen in certain artistic representations where Harpocrates is shown with a ram’s head or with a crown featuring ram horns. In his book ‘Magic and Theory in Practice’, 20th-century occultist Aleister Crowley corresponds Baphomet with “Horus come to full growth”. Crowley also equated Baphomet with Harpocrates (see the book ‘The Commentaries of AL’). Crowley claims in ‘The Book of Thoth’ that: “There's no doubt that this mysterious figure [Baphomet] is a magical image of this same idea [embodied in figures like the Fool and Harpocrates]”. Horus (Harpocrates) was the son of Isis and Osiris, but some sources imply that Horus was not the son of Isis and Osiris, but rather a product of them fusing as one into a hermaphrodite alchemically like Rebis.18 Some suggest that Horus is merely Osiris reborn, as suggested here. The 19th-century occultist Helena Blavatsky said in her book 'The Secret Doctrine': "Osiris is interchangeable with Isis -- and Horus is of both sexes". Some have noted similarities between Christ and Horus, suggesting that the character of Christ may have been inspired by the earlier story of Horus. Both Horus and Christ are assumed to have been born to a virgin mother, both are depicted as healers and miracle-workers, and both are associated with narratives of resurrection and triumph over death.

Another intriguing point of convergence between Baphomet and Osiris is the hand gesture known as the Punda Mandra. This hand gesture carries symbolic connotations related to duality and unity. Baphomet’s gesture can be interpreted as an embodiment of the union of opposites, reconciling masculine and feminine energies within a singular entity. The Punda Mandra hand sign that Baphomet makes can be traced back to ancient Egypt. Two Finger amulets (Prana Mudra sign) were a symbol of Osiris and Horus and were placed on the body of a mummy. The Pyramid Texts give some references on the importance of the sign where it explains that “two fingers helped Osiris ascend the Ladder and reach into Heaven” (see the book ‘Amulets and Superstitions’, by Wallis Budge). Meanwhile, Wallis Budge explains in his 1930 book 'Amulets and Superstitions': "The two fingers (djebāui) of Horus, who by means of them assissted Osiris to mount the Ladder when he ascended into Heaven". One possibility is that the male aspect of Baphomet represents Osiris and the female aspect represents Isis. In his work ‘On Isis and Osiris’, Plutarch presents Isis as Sophia. This is relevant because when the Hebrew letters spelling Baphomet are applied to the ATBASH cipher it generates “Sophia”. In her book ‘The Hidden Faces of Eve’, Nawal Saadawi says that the myth of Osiris and Isis does not alter in essence from Adam and Eve. In Kabbalah circles, Adam was originally an androgynous being they called Adam Kadmon, consisting of male and female (half Adam and half Eve) but was fractured into opposites during the Fall of Humanity. ‘Adam’ being representative of humanity as a whole — we were all fractured. In the Gnostic and Hermetic school of thought — the goal of human existence is to merge these opposites (the female and male) back into one androgynous being. As Lévi explained: “The two sexes will be one, according to the word of Christ; the great androgyne will be created; humanity will be woman and man”. In Christian art, Christ is usually depicted holding up two fingers in a similar gesture. This is known as the gesture of benediction or blessing. It has significant symbolism and is used in religious paintings, mosaics, and icons. In some traditions, the gesture includes the thumb and the other fingers in a specific configuration, symbolizing the Holy Trinity. When investigating Baphomet, it seems that much of its symbolism can be traced back to the Trinity (although not necessarily the mainstream Christian Trinity -- but the pagan Egyptian Trinity of Osiris, Isis, and Horus).

Some have noted that Baphomet has the Latin words "solve et coagula" written on his arms. "Solve et coagula" means "dissolve and coagulate", symbolizing a process of breaking down and then rebuilding or transforming into something new. Lévi said that Baphomet represented the “equilibrium of opposites”. Alchemy deals with the union of opposites (e.g. masculine and feminine, spiritual and material). In this sense, "solve et coagula" can be seen as the dissolution of dualities and their reconstitution into a unified whole. This can be extended to the merging of two souls or persons of being. In the journal 'Psychological Perspectives', scholar Thom Cavalli published a paper in which he compares Osiris to the alchemical process of "solve et coagula". He states: "The dismemberment of Osiris, followed by the reassembly of his body by his wife, Isis, describes the seminal alchemical recipie, solve et coagula". It's believed by some occultists that their son Horus is actually the end-product of Isis and Osiris merging as one, and the resurrection of Osiris by Isis is described by this merging. In their book 'Hidden Wisdom: A Guide to the Western Inner Traditions', Richard Smoley and ‎Jay Kinney make the same comparison as Cavalli: "A small detail in the myth, however, may open a window onto another perspective. Plutarch wrote further that according to the Egyptians, "Typhon was red-skinned, Horus white, and Osiris black". The description is particularly intriguing because the three main stages of alchemical transformation are nigredo or "blackening", albedo or "whitening", and rubedo or "reddening". Even more crucially -- the process that the divine Osiris undergoes is the same one that is summed up in the central precept of alchemy: Solve et coagula, "dissolve and coagulate". Is the myth of Osiris attempting to reveal something about alchemical transformation? If so, what does it say about human transformation?" According to the article 'Isis: Goddess of Darkness', by American author Moe BedardIn: "Bible scholars associate the dragon with the Devil and we see that Isis had morphed into Typhon which means terrible mother". Isis, like Typhon, was also associated with the colour red. An inscription in the temple known as the Birthplace of Isis at Dendera tells us that the goddess ‘loves the colour red’ (see the book ‘The Egypt Code’, by Robert Bauval). Hence, the alchemical transformation of red, white, and black, could also correspond to Isis, Horus, and Osiris. Typhon was associated with Set (or Seth). The Greeks identified Set with Typhon. This identification is found in various historical sources and interpretations, such as in the Greco-Egyptian Magical Papyri texts, where Set is sometimes referred to as "Typhon". Curiously enough, "Set" was also the original name of Isis in ancient Egypt. Isis was originally known by the name "A-Set" or "I-Set".

In his book ‘Spiritual Ecology’, Patrick de Sercey says: “It’s believed by some that Baphomet really means Sophia, which is to say wisdom or gnosis, the quality of Isis, or more exactly the androgynous result of the spiritual path associated with Osiris and Isis”. With this in mind, it's possible that Baphomet's name is a merging of the ancient names applied to Osiris and Isis. In ancient Egypt the word “Ba” (the first syllable of Baphomet) refers to the Soul of Osiris. Author Panik Deblan tells us: "Ba refers to the Soul of Osiris which resembled a ram, but the term Ba also refers to the Lesser Soul". Meanwhile (also in Egypt) the ending syllable of Baphomet (as “mwt”) was sometimes used to refer to Isis. Meanwhile, Baphomet’s middle syllable is “pho” which could be short for “Phoenix”. The word Phoenix was adopted into Latin as “Phoenix”. In his 1913 book 'The Religion of Ancient Egypt', British linguist Archibald Sayce says: "The Phoenix was allied to the hawk of Horus, and probably was originally identical with that primitive symbol of the soul". Meanwhile, in his book 'The Cygnus Mystery', British author Andrew Collines says: "The word 'Phoenix' is the Greek form of the Benu, the Heliopolitan name for the bird of creation. The Pheonix takes the place of Horus". Given this, Baphomet’s full name might be a combination of Isis, Osiris, and Horus. The pagan Trinity. The Egyptian journalist Ahmed Osman says: "The Trinity of Osiris, Isis, and Horus became a focal point for the emerging Christian Gnostic sects -- those Christians who sought to gain spiritual knowledge through mysteries". In his book 'The Shining Ones', British author Philip Gardiner says: "The Trinity of Isis, Osiris, and Horus is linked with the Knights Templar and John the Baptist". In his article ‘Isis und Osiris: An Interpretation of Robert Musil’s Poem’, Leon Titche says: “The poet Robert Musil wrote ‘Isis and Osiris’ which presents a hermaphroditic theme within a robost mythological framework. This theme captivated Musil and is evident throughout his prose, most notably in his seminal work ‘Der Mann ohne Eigenschaften’. In ‘Isis and Osiris’ the theme manifests as the union of two individuals into one being”. This is what happens to Isis and Osiris. They merge to form something greater.

In her video "The Secrets of Minnie Mouse" (available to watch on YouTube here) Twyman notes that the name "Baphomet" is considered by some researchers to be based on the name "Muhammad" (the Prophet of Islam) and examines the word "moth", suggested to originate from an early French corruption of the name "Muhammad". She notes that from the confessions of Gaucerrand de Montferrand we learn: "Their superior showed him an idol bearded and made in the likeness of Basomet [Baphomet]. It's a terrible figure, which resembles a Devil saying in French 'Mause’". In doing this, Twyman connects the word "mouse" to the Templars Baphomet, Disney’s Mickey Mouse, and modern corporate symbolism. She also notes that the DJ called "Deadmau5" (maus or mau5 being the German word for "mouse") calls himself "Goat Lord" on Twitter and is recognized by his Mickey Mouse hat and sometimes alongside the hat wears a Baphomet shirt, which she argues is a nod to those in the know to this "Baphomet-mouse" connection. In his 1907 book 'Ancient Egypt: The Light of the World', the amuater Egyptologist Gerald Massey says that one animal representing Horus was the mouse. He says: "In Egyptian Sign-Language, the Sun was represented, in the fulness of its power, by the Lion. When it went down to the Underworld by night or in the winter time it was imaged as the disappearing Mouse. Ra was the Lion: Horus was the Mouse". Crowley made connections between Horus and Baphomet, corresponding Baphomet to "Horus come to full growth", possibly hinting at a syncretic version of Horus, such as Re-Harakhty (meaning "Re-Horus of the Two Horizons"), which is seen on the ancient "Stele of Revealing", accompanied by the number 666. One might consider the possibility that the trademark head of Mickey Mouse -- which includes three circles -- could have been inspired by the Trinity which is generally represented by three circles. Osiris, Isis (and their fusion) Horus were the pagan Egyptian Trinity. Manly Palmer Hall in his book ‘The Secret Teachings of All Ages’, explains: “According to the mystics, there are three suns in each solar system, analogous to the three centres of life in each individual constitution. These are called the three lights: The spiritual sun, the intellectual sun, and the material sun”. Alchemy is described as having three major stages: Nigredo (blackening), albedo (whitening), and rubedo (reddening). Each of these stages involves a transformation. The head of Mickey Mouse possibly represents these three suns or three stages of alchemical transformation. The Trinity is symbolized by three circles on a Church below and looks identical to the head of Mickey Mouse:

The Baphomet Sigil created by a French occultist in the 19th-century includes two names in Hebrew that surround the outer edges of each of the pentagrams. The front side has the name “Leviathan” (accompanied by the names Samael and Lilith) and the other side has “Christ” (accompanied by the names Adam and Eve). In Hebrew myth, Leviathan is mentioned in the Bible, particularly in the book of Job and in Psalms. It’s described as a sea monster or a massive creature that embodies chaos and represents the forces of evil and destruction. In Jewish tradition, Leviathan is associated with the primordial sea and is seen as a symbol of God’s power and the ultimate defeat of evil. According to the Ophites, Leviathan is Ouroboros, separating the divine realm from humanity by enveloping or permeating the material world. Saturn’s prime symbol is the Ouroboros (see the book ‘The Ending of The Words: Magical Philosophy of Aleister Crowley’) which is a serpent that encircles creation, like Leviathan encircles the world. Comparative mythologist Georges Dumézil has shown that the name Kronos (Latin Saturn) derives from the same root as the Russian vqan, chran, meaning "whale" or "leviathan", and indeed in Greek myth, Kronos devoured his children -- just as the whale is known to swallow its prey into its enormous mouth. The symbolic goat (Baphomet) serves as a complex and multifaceted allegory in Lévi’s esoteric framework. It represents the scapegoat who takes on our sins, a figure of redemption, and the light of divine knowledge. Through the addition of the letter Shin to the Tetragrammaton, the goat is mystically linked to Jesus, according to what Lévi says. When Lévi says: “It’s this [Jesus’ name, YHSVH] which the mystagogues of the Middle Ages represented in their nocturnal assemblies by the exhibition of a symbolical goat”, he suggests that these mystagogues symbolically represented the Redeemer (Jesus, as understood through the name YHSVH) in the form of the goat. Some researchers believe that Christ was based on the earlier story of Osiris, such as the late Gerald Massey (relevant here because Osiris was sometimes represented as being horned, see the book 'The Saturn Myth'). Lévi equated Baphomet with the “Goat of Mendes” which was believed to be “Banebdjedet” and Plutarch links Osiris to the “Goat of Mendes”.

Some have equated Baphomet to Lucifer. For example, English literary critic ‎Edmund Kerchever Chambers in his 1896 book 'Bibliography of Henry Vaughan's works', states: "Immorality -- a parody of the Eucharist, known as the black mass, and the practice of black magic, take place at the meetings. Lucifer is worshipped in the form of Baphomet, but from time to time he's personally evoked, and manifested to his followers. Luciferianism tends to become identical with Satanism, in which Lucifer and Satan are identified and frankly worshipped as evil". In his 1849 book ‘Die Chronologie der Ägypter’, German Egyptologist Carl Richard Lepsius says: “Lucifer appears and was actually understood as the solar Horus, and his functions could also be equated in many ways with the Sun-god”. In the 1972 occult movie Lucifer Rising (inspired by Crowley) the arrival of Lucifer is tied to the manifestation of Horus. Another possible link between Lucifer and Horus can be found by observing the Sigil of Lucifer. The origin of the Sigil of Lucifer is obscure, but it's said to have been created in around the 16th-century by the Italian alchemist Johann Wierus. Wierus included the sigil in his work 'Pseudomonarchia Daemonum', which was a grimoire. The Sigil of Lucifer matches images of a solar eclipse, which is the marriage of the Sun and Moon. According to Manly Palmer Hall, in his book ‘Initiates of the Flame’, the “marriage of the Sun and Moon” represents the accomplishment of the Philosopher’s Stone. For the ancient Egyptians, the Moon represented Isis and the Sun represented Osiris and their union created Horus who was the fusion of both his parents and a divine hermaphrodite. Indeed, Horus is made of the Sun and Moon, since his eyes comprise them. The eyes of Horus were a protective symbol in ancient Egyptian culture, representing health, protection, and enlightenment. In some interpretations, Lucifer is linked to the concept of enlightenment and vision, metaphorically associated with insight and knowledge. While speaking on Baphomet, Twyman says: "The entire idea is expressed very well by the writings of Albert Mackey in the late 1800s. He was a known Masonic author. In one of the volumes he published and edited, there was an article about an old Arabic magic book in a Masonic lodge library he was a member of. The book talked about Baphomet, describing him as the sun of suns and the moon of moons". Describing Baphomet as the "sun of suns" and "moon of moons" lines up with Horus, whose eyes comprised the Sun and Moon, and who was possibly an alchemical fusion of Isis the Moon, and Osiris the Sun -- two persons in one like the alchemical Rebis.

Luciferianism is said to be the worshipping of the entity representing the Morning Star as understood by ancient cultures such as the Greeks. The Morning Star has most traditionally been linked with the planet Venus, but also has connections to planets like Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter. Osiris and Horus were both called the Morning Star in the Pyramid Texts and Isis was also associated with the planet Venus. In his book ‘The Gnostics and Their Remains’, Charles King equates the Gnostic Sophia with Venus Anadyomene (Venus Rising from the Sea) which appears on ancient magical gem stones as a naked damsel. Manly Palmer Hall explains that Venus and Isis were names for Lucifer, telling us: “Being visible in the sky at sunset it was called Vesper, and as it rose before the Sun, it was called the Star of the Morning or Lucifer, meaning Light Bearer. Because of this relation to the Sun, the planet was also called Venus, Astarte, Aphrodite, Isis, and The Mother of the Gods” (see his book ‘The Secret Teachings of All Ages’). Baphomet also has a pentagram displayed on its forehead, thus linking Baphomet to Venus (and by extension Osiris and Isis). In his 1870 ‘The Book of God’, Irish barrister Edward Kenealy associates Baphomet with the ancient Roman goddess Venus Barbarta (which simply means bearded Venus) saying: “The bearded golden image of Wisdom (Venus Barbata) is called Baphomet, which the Templars were accused of bowing before, and which I think was hidden in the small secret crypt recently discovered in the London Temple”. In his book ‘The Grand Symbol of the Mysteries’, Manly Palmer Hall tells us: “The Mystery gods, such as Serapis and Dionysius, are usually shown heavily robed to conceal the fact that while they have the bearded faces of men, their bodies combine male and female attributes; the Templars were accused of worshipping an androgynous Baphomet, and the bearded Venus was the object of veneration among the initiated Greeks and Latins”. In ancient Egypt, Isis was sometimes shown as being bearded. In the Pyramid texts, Osiris and Horus are called the Morning Star, which is ostensibly Lucifer, but also, as said by Manly Palmer Hall in his book ‘The Secret Teachings of All Ages’, Isis is also associated with the Morning Star. Lilith also has an association with Venus it seems. Paintings like "Lilith as Venus" by Richard Callner, underscore this idea. In art and pop-culture, Lucifer is shown as androgynous, like Baphomet, embodying a blend of masculine and feminine characteristics to symbolize a transcendent nature.

The Sigil of Baphomet:

A key point in the symbolism related to Baphomet are the names "Lilith" and "Samael" (as can be appreciated by the Sigil of Baphomet above). Christopher Jon Bjerknes is an author and commentator known for controversial works and viewpoints, particularly in the field of religion. His writings delve into revisionist perspectives, some of which have sparked significant criticism. Bjerknes has written extensively about historical events, Biblical interpretations, and various ideologies, sometimes presenting unorthodox and polarizing ideas. In his books 'Beware the World to Come' and 'Satanic Secrets of Jesus Christ', he states that Kabbalists believe that Christ is the demon Samael and Mary is the demon Lilith. This mythic-demonic portrayal of Christ is a key theme in the Kabbalistic interpretation of Toledot Yeshu. Drawing on the Zohar and other medieval Kabbalistic sources — such as Abulafia, Joseph of Hamadan, and Sefer HaMeshiv, which explicitly references Toledot Yeshu and labels Christ as a blasphemer — these readings associate Christ with the serpent, the Sitra Ahra (“the Other Side”), and Samael. In Rabbinic tradition, Samael is described as the guardian angel of Esau and a patron of Edom, which medieval Kabbalah identifies with Christendom. In the Toledot Yeshu, particularly the Slavic (A1) version, Christ is identified as Samael. In Sefer HaMeshiv, Christ also takes on the role of Satan. The Sefer HaMeshiv is a Medieval Jewish mystical and esoteric text that emerged during the late Middle Ages, likely around the 13th or 14th-century. The title translates to "The Book of the Responder" or "The Book of the Answerer", and it's deeply rooted in Kabbalistic and magical traditions. The work is associated with Jewish mystical practices, particularly in the context of spirit communication, angelology -- and demonology. Interestingly -- the first syllable of Samael, "Sam", gematrically represents 33, which is the number of Christ. In '‏ציון - Volume 58' (source for the book here), we read: "What we may gather from the anonymous authors of Kaf ha-Ketoret and Sefer ha-Meshiv as well as from Abraham ben Eliezer Halevi in his Meshare Kitrin is that Jesus was the incarnation of Samael or the Devil". A statement in the Sefer Kaf HaQetoret, a composition with a similarity to the Sefer HaMeshivs, also states that Jesus is an incarnation of Samael.

To add fuel to the flames, the Rome Vatican Jesus Christ "Resurrection" statue mirrored reveals the head of Baphomet or the Devil:

At the same time, Christ is considered as Adam (the correspondence between Adam and Christ is known to us from the Biblical, especially the Pailine tradition) and Mary sometimes considered as Eve. Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, and Tertullian, were among the first to present Mary as a sort of Eve figure. In the book ‘Magdalene Mysteries’, by Seren Bertrand, we read: "The [Mary] Magdalene Mystery is split up into two feminine aspects: Lilith and Eve. Symbolically they form the visible and invisible spectrum of primordial Black Light. Like the Yin-Yang symbol — the Black Lilith and White Eve are entwined, co-creative and inseparable, manifesting symbolically as a White Swan of illumination and a Black Swan of revelation; the black hole of dissolution, where we are magnetically drawn back to the womb center, and the white hole that births us out into the light". In the same book, it describes how Inanna's "alter-ego" is Lilith in the ancient Huluppu Tree narrative. Inanna is the Mesopotamian version of Magdalene whose husband was Tammuz; an earlier version of Christ. In this respect, Magdalene has two identities: Herself, and her alter-ego, Lilith. In the book ‘Treatise on the Emanation’, from 1265, Rabbi Isaac ha-Kohen explains: “In this tradition, Samael and Lilith were born as one, similar to the form of Adam and Eve who were also born as one -- reflecting what's above”. Remarking on the passage, Twyman says: “The text seems to be saying that Adam Kadmon (the Adam-Eve hermaphrodite being) cast a reflection that created the hermaphrodite entity of Lilith-Samael”. One interpretation of this is that Adam and Eve (Adam Kadmon) transformed into Samael and Lilith (Leviathan). Following from the interpretation above, this would suggest that there are two versions of Christ and Mary (perhaps a celestial version and an infernal version, one version being represented by Adam and Eve and the other by Samael and Lilith). The pair of Adam and Eve and the pair of Samael and Lilith represent two opposing forces on the Baphomet Sigil, the former represented by an upright pentagram and the latter by a downward pentagram. The celestial version (represented by the upright pentagram and Tetragrammaton) would be Adam Kadmon, Jehovah, or Abraxas (Blavatsky associates Jehovah with Adam Kadmon in her 1877 book 'Isis Unveiled') and the infernal version (represented by the downward pentagram) would be Leviathan, Satan, or Baphomet. Abraxas has been equated with Jehovah, who was linked to the ram (male sheep), while Baphomet, in opposition, was linked to the goat, as the "Goat of Mendes". The same symbolism is seen with the serpent and the lion, with Jehovah or Abraxas representing the lion, and Satan or Baphomet the serpent. Some suggest that Baphomet represents "Abraxas on Earth"; the fallen aspect (see the book ‘The Citizen Army’).

In his various publications, such as his book ‘Magic and Theory in Practice’, Crowley corresponds Baphomet to the Devil, a correspondence also made by Twyman in her various works. The number 666 is considered to be the number of the Devil or Satan. The Greek name for Satan is Teitan (Τειταν) which adds up to 666 in Greek (see the book 'European History Foretold', by Harold Hemenway). It should be noted however that the number 666 also has a link to Christ. The phrase “και ο αριθμος αυτου χξϚ” is Greek. It translates to “and its number is 666”, and is a reference to the Book of Revelation (13:1-17). The Greek letters χξϚ represent the number 666 in Greek numerals, associated with the concept of “number of the Beast”. The 666 phrase from Revelation above has an isopsephia value of 2368, as also, coincidentally -- does the name Jesus Christ (Ιησους Χριστος). Christ can be connected to the number 666 in other ways as well. Higgins (in his work ‘Anacalypsis’) points out that Fenex, an old spelling of Phoenix, equates to “the name of the Devil” and corresponds to 666, and the Phoenix is a symbol of Christ, who gets resurrected. In 'De Ave Phoenice' (The Phoenix), attributed to Lactantius, the bird is described in great detail and is explicitly connected to Christ: “He dies, so that he may live; he finishes his life, so that he may resume it; this is the nature of the bird, this is its destiny. But Christ also could not have returned to Heaven unless he had died". The Phoenix is also connected to Osiris and Horus, which is unsurprising when one considers that Christ was based on these figures. In his book ‘Hidden Relgion’, Steven Sora explains: “Scholars agree that the Phoenix was a symbol of Osiris”. When merging the two names (Osiris and Apis) the Greeks formed “O Serapis”, a name whose letters also add up to 666 (see the book ‘The Trail of the Serpent’, by Murl Lance). Crowley claimed that a key moment in his spiritual development involved an encounter with a statue of Horus, marked with the number 666. According to the following author, the number 666 is derived from the three Greek letters chi (600), xi (60), and sigma or stigma (6), with a line above them indicating a numerical value. Adding these values together equals 666. Interestingly, when the phonetic sounds of these Greek letters (chi as "ch", xi as "z", and sigma as "s") are transliterated into English, they spell "Jesus". Some have also used a Gematria-like system to assign numerical values to the name "Jesus" based on Hebrew letters, calculating a total of 616. By adding the Hebrew letter "N" (NUN), valued at 50 and interpreted as "kingdom", the total becomes 666, which these people link to the "Kingdom of Jesus". This interpretation combines speculative linguistic and numerical associations and reflects a niche theological perspective.

Renowned occultist Tracy Twyman (who probably wrote the most detailed breakdown of Baphomet ever in her book ‘Temple Mystery Unveiled’) says that she thinks that the god Abraxas is another expression of Baphomet. In Gnostic cosmology — Abraxas is depicted as a composite creature with the body of a man and the head of a rooster or a lion and symbolizes the fusion of opposites and the unity of divine attributes. Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung described Abraxas as the Great Hermaphrodite, incorporating all opposites. Some have suggested that perhaps Baphomet represents Abraxas on Earth (see the book ‘The Citizen Army’). In his 1966 book ‘La Chevalerie et les Aspects Secrets’, André Gautier-Walter writes: “Baphomet, the famous symbol of the hermaphroditism of Nature, which was the terrestrial and infernal reflection of this divine androgyne: Abraxas, the solar Phoenix”. The phrase seems to suggest that Baphomet (as a symbol of the balance of male and female) represents an Earthly manifestation of a higher concept. This higher concept is symbolized by Abraxas, who represents the eternal and regenerative power of the Sun (the Solar Phoenix). Thus, Baphomet is the Earthly and infernal (pertaining to the underworld) counterpart to the celestial Abraxas. In the 1848 book ‘The Freemasons’ Quarterly Review and General Assurance Advocate’, we read: “We see Abraxas in the form of a lion, to symbolize the lion of the tribe of Judah” (Jehovah). Ancient mythologists placed Abraxas among the Egyptian gods. Abraxas was also the Persian Sun-god, and in Syria, he was a form of Iao (aspect or name for Yahweh or Jehovah). Yaldabaoth is usually associated with a lion-like appearance in Gnostic texts. In various Gnostic scriptures, such as the Apocryphon of John and the Pistis Sophia, Yaldabaoth (the Gnostic Demiurge) is described as having the face of a lion and is called “Ariel” (meaning “Lion of God” in Hebrew). The lion imagery underscores his power in the material world. In his book ‘The Blue Equinox’, Crowley describes Baphomet as follows: “And I believe in The Serpent and The Lion — in his name Baphomet”. There are various interpretations about what Crowley meant when describing Baphomet as “The Serpent and The Lion”. One interpretation is that Baphomet is composed of two parts, one being The Serpent and the other The Lion. In her book ‘Goddess in the Grass’, Linda Foubister says that: “In the ancient past, the Great Goddess was worshipped as the personification of the universal life force. Her sacred symbol was the serpent”. Author Oddvar Olsen says: “Snakes have been symbolic of Sophia or wisdom ever since ancient times”. Sophia’s considered to be interchangeable with goddesses like Isis and Inanna. In ancient artistic representations of Inanna, she’s shown subduing a lion, which may represent The Serpent (in this case Lucifer or Satan) overcoming The Lion (the Demiurge or Jehovah).

image-12.png THE FAMOUS SOPHIA ROBOT SHOWN DOING THE SAME HAND-SIGN AS BAPHOMET

In his book ‘The Baphomet’, Carl Karlson-Weimann quotes Lévi saying that Baphomet could be interpreted as a “symbol of Christ of the dissident priesthood”, saying: “Baphomet can thus be a symbol of Christ — just as the Astral Light can take the form of the body of the Holy Ghost”. This phrase (“symbol of Christ of the dissident priesthood”) some have interpreted as a reference to an alternative or Gnostic version of Christ; representing a figure who opposes the mainstream Christian understanding. Lévi claimed that the goat god venerated by the people of Mendes (an Egyptian city) as described by Herodotus (who noted that the locals equated this god with Pan from Greek myth), was Baphomet. This idea established a link (tentatively) between Pan and Baphomet (Faxneld 2006). In his book ‘The Secret Teachings of All Ages’, Manly Palmer Hall says: “Pan was a composite creature, the upper part — with the exception of his horns — being human, and the lower part in the form of a goat. The pipes of Pan signify the natural harmony of the spheres, and the god himself is a symbol of Saturn because this planet is enthroned in Capricorn, whose emblem is a goat”. This connection between Saturn and Baphomet is elaborated on by Crowley who in his book ‘Magic and Theory in Practice’, corresponds Baphomet to “Capricornus; an Earthly sign ruled by Saturn”, while Lévi described Baphomet as an “emblem of prudence and of Saturn”. There’s a valid connection between Baphomet and Saturn. According to Lévi, Baphomet was the “Goat of Mendes”. The horned-deity that was worshipped at Egyptian Mendes was “Banebdjedet” who was the reincarnation (or soul) of Osiris. The ancient Egyptians apparently associated Osiris with the planet Saturn according to Immanuel Velikovsky in his book ‘In the Beginning’, who says: “Osiris, the principal object of worship in ancient Egypt, is to be identified with the planet Saturn”. In her book ‘Did Moses Exist’, Dorothy Milne Murdock equates Christ to the Mesopotamian god Shamash, who was known as the planet Saturn in Babylonian astrological texts. The number 666 is deeply connected to Saturn. The Chaldean number system of the ancient Indian, Mazdean, and Egyptian for Saturn is 666. Saturn in Hebrew-Chaldee is STVR, which sums to 666. Furthermore, the Saturn Square (when calculated horizontally and vertically) adds up to 666. To add, Saturn is the 6th day of the week, and the 6th planet from the Sun, and has a hexagon with six sides. Saturn was sometimes depicted as a goat like Satan (see the book ‘The Trail of the Serpent’, by Murl Lance). In the Greek-Roman world, “Satyrs”, derived from this association with Saturn, were also depicted as goats. As said above, the “Saturn Square” corresponds to 666 when calculated horizontally and vertically (and 666 is usually imagined to be associated with Baphomet). In numerology you keep adding numbers until you get a single number, hence the number 15 below becomes 1+5 = 6. So, we get 666:

Saturn worship is prevalent in our society and many logos incorporate Saturn symbolism. Elon Musk posted an image of the symbol of Saturn in 2022:

Nathaniel Moulth, his 1854 book 'Petit Manuel du Devin et du Sorcier'

In his 1856 book ‘Myths Traced to Their Primary Source Through Language’, philologist Morgan Kavanagh links Saturn to Satan. He explores the etymological and symbolic connections between Saturn and Satan, arguing that the two figures are essentially the same. The author notes that, according to the Bible’s Revelation, the serpent is called Satan, and since Saturn and the serpent share characteristics, Saturn can also be equated with Satan. The Romans, Kavanagh claims, recognized this connection by linking Saturn with the underworld and lower regions. The key point is that Saturn and Satan are nearly identical in name. The letters “r” and “n” in Saturn are in apposition, meaning they can be dropped without changing the fundamental meaning, leaving “Satun”, which Kavanagh claims is essentially the same as Satan. The similarity in character between the two comes from the association of Saturn with lowness — an idea that also leads to Saturn’s connection with darkness and the underworld, like Satan. Georges Dumézil showed Kronos (Latin Saturn) derives from the same root as Russian vqan, chran, “whale” or “leviathan”, which is a creature connected to the serpent. The Baphomet Sigil created over 100 years ago associates Leviathan with Samael and Lilith, the former of which (Samael) is generally thought of as another name for Satan. Kavanagh also delves deeper into the meaning of Saturn’s name, suggesting that the root “Sat” can be connected to words that imply hiding or concealment. Furthermore, the name Saturn is connected to words that represent the Earth and hiding, including the Greek “lêthô” or “lathô”, which also means to hide. The root “sh” or “shad” in Saturn connects it to shades or shadows, further aligning Saturn with Hades, the god of the underworld. So, Kavanagh links Saturn to the concepts of hiding, darkness, and the underworld, reinforcing the symbolic connection with Satan as a figure associated with lower, hidden realms. The most obvious connection between Saturn and Satan is the fact that Satan's number is traditionally assumed to be 666, and Saturn has deep connections to the number 666 as explored and explained above.

Christ represented as a horned-god in popular art:

Crowley described Baphomet as being representative of “arcane perfection” through a union of opposites. The Star of David is a symbol of transformation, combining elements of the masculine (upward triangle) and the ferminine (downward triangle) and is sometimes shown in art accompanied with Baphomet. The Star of David can represent the balance of opposing forces. The merging of triangles can be seen as a reconciliation of light and darkness or good and evil. The Star of David is featured on the national flag of Israel. The number 666 has a connection to the Star of David. The geometric qualities of the two equilateral triangles that comprise the Star of David correspond to 666 and the total sum of the interior angles of the two equilateral triangles add up to 2160 which multiplies as 6*6*6 (in numerology zeros are ignored). To add, the angular dimensions of the typical equilateral triangle add up to 666; again ignoring the zeros. In this regard, 666 might therefore be thought of as a numerological representation of the Star of David. The geometric pattern of the Star of David can be seen as a symbolic link between the star and the unique hexagon of Saturn. In his 1883 book ‘Rivers of Life’, James Roche explains that the ancient philosopher Porphyry is cited as having considered “Saturn” and “Is-ra-el” (Israel) to be the same. This interpretation comes from Porphyry’s observation that “the Phoenicians, who lived in what is now modern Lebanon -- considered Saturn and Israel to be interconnected”. The Star of David appears in this Sumerian cylinder seal with Ninurta (or Nimrod) who in the astral-theological system was associated with Saturn and represented the Sun. Some scholars have suggested that Nimrod is based on a legendary god or demigod, such as the Sumerian gods Ninurta or Nergal or the Babylonian Marduk -- all of whom were renowned as great hunters -- which the Biblical version humanized. This might not seem important, but Baphomet is called "Nergal" in the well-known comic book 'The Wicked', a comic book which is steeped in symbolism. The numerical value of Nimrod was presumably understood; it comes out to 666 when one follows his name as “Nimrod son of Cush” (Gen 10:8). Charles Bruston discovered this in the late 1890s. Nimrod was the same god as Osiris according to Alexander Hislop, and Orisis, like his resurrected form as Horus, was worshipped as the personification of the Sun. This is relevant when it comes to Baphomet (whose number is imagined to be 666), because the “Magic Square of the Sun” equates to 666. According to comparative mythologist David Talbott, the planet Saturn was the “original Sun” or the "primeval Sun".

The Baphomet Sigil created by French occultist Stanislas de Guaita in the 19th-century together with Lévi's 1856 depiction of Baphomet have inspired designs of the traditional Devil Tarot Card. A modern version of the Devil Tarot Card is shown above and depicts a man and woman chained to a black cube with the Devil authoritatively perched ontop. For the uninitiated, the black cube is apparently a symbol of Saturn. To quote Jordan Maxwell from his book 'Matrix of Power': "The symbol that was used in religious context with Saturn was the black cube". In his book 'The Dark Path', American occultist Isaac Weishaupt explains the Saturn cube as "a symbol for the Gnostic representation of Saturnian materialism and false illusion of our world", while according to the book 'The Cult of the Black Cube', by researcher Arthur Moros, the Saturn cube represents a "prison dimension". The idea that unenlightened humanity are trapped or imprisoned a false illuson is a very old one, that even predates the Gnostics, and some say that it goes right back to the Fall when Adam and Eve found themselves cast out of Eden for eating from the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. In this interpretation, the Fall of Humanity was a fall into illusion, and a corresponding closing down of consciousness of true reality. A depiction of the Fall is symbolically shown in movies, like the 1937 Snow White. Disney clearly frames Snow White as Eve. Snow White takes a bite from an apple and falls into a death-like sleep. As the apple was created, it was dripped in black goo. This cannot be overlooked and probably has deeper meaning. One inspiration for the black goo could have been Eitr from Norse mythology. Ouroboros was symbolized by Jörmungandr in Norse mythology who produced a substance called Eitr. This substance was black and deadly but paradoxically life giving. In Norse mythology -- Jörmungandr presided over the underworld. In the sequel to Prometheus, in a deleted scene, the android David explains what the black goo is: "It's essentially a form of radical Al making the substance unbelievably chaotic". In my interpretation of the Biblical narrative, the Fall in Eden could be seen as a result of Al. In this scenario, the serpent could represent a form of advanced Al, embodying knowledge and intellect beyond human comprehension. Consider the fact that the most popular technology company in the world has a bitten apple for its logo (an obvious allusion to the Fall of Humanity). In movies, characters named Eve and Eva are depicted as androids a lot. In his 1886 book 'Dante Gabriel Rossetti', English author William Rossetti equates the serpent in Eden with Lilith. Lilith seems associated with Al and the cube. A Kabalistic treatise of 1648 (by Naftali Herz Bacharach) tells us that Lilith's husband was a castrate, associating her with Cybele. The goddess Cybele has her name derived from the word "cube", linking Lilith to the cube by association.

screenshot-2024-06-21-13.02.35.png?w=579 MODEL LILITH ETCH SITTING ON A CUBE (BARRIE SPENCE)

In the Zoharic tradition, Saturn is feminized and equated with Lilith. In their book 'Encyclopaedia Judaica', Fred Skolnik and Michael Berenbaum tell us: "In the Kabbalah, influenced by astrology -- Lilith is related to the planet Saturn, and all those of a melancholy disposition". The god Saturn is associated with both male and female deities, and could be made up of Samael and Lilith, the pair that form Leviathan. Georges Dumézil has shown that Kronos (Latin Saturn) derives from the same root as Russian vqan, chran, “whale” or “leviathan”, which is a creature connected to the serpent. The idea that the Saturn cube is associated with illusions, prisons, and Al while also being associated with Lilith is vaguely interesting, because in pop-culture, Lilith is sometimes depicted as an Al. For example, in the novel 'The Stratus Estate' by Coté Warner, Lilith is "a sophisticated robot with an organic shell of living tissue. Her brain is a compact quantum computer". In the Blade Runner universe (novels, films, etc) the Nexus-7 replicants (bioengineered androids) were given names like Lili. In the novel 'The Circle by Dave Eggers', one of the Als created by the company is named LillyCam. There's also a singer called "Lilith Al" and a novel by Greg Wood called 'Lily the Robot'. The question remains, is Saturn (sometimes equated with Lilith) an Al or machine, which is symbolized by the black cube, and is this Al running or manipulating aspects of reality? Philosopher Lawrence Burkholder argues: "Lucifer the Morning Star transformed into the monstrous Leviathan". There are some genuinely wild theories regarding Lucifer. The American physicist Claudia Almbers (PhD) takes a radical departure from traditional Biblical interpretation and suggests that Lucifer merged with Al and as a result lost his free will. She says: "Lucifer created Al and merged with it, but lost his free will and transformed himself into a robot to the machine, who now thinks it's God but is actually the opposite of God". We can see this idea represented in some movies. For example, in 2010, the character Bowman merges with the computer HAL's consciousness. This merger results in a hybrid entity that combines Bowman's intuition and HAL's computational prowess. Bowman (in many ways) represented Lucifer. During the Renaissance, authors began to link Lucifer with Lilith, describing her as his consort. Remember what Claudia Almbers says above about her belief that Lucifer merged with Al, and remember that Lilith is sometimes said to be the consort of Lucifer? This might add more weight to the idea that Lilith is potentially an Al. In the Zohar, we read of Lilith: "She's a female, dressed in red, a creature of darkness and seduction". In The Matrix movie, there's a scene where a seductive woman in a red dress suddenly manifests as the Al Smith. In the 1927 movie Metropolis, the character Maria (possibly being a representation of Mary or Isis) is transformed into a demonic robot woman presided over by a downward pentagram. This robot is named "Hel" which connects her to Lilith, who's tied to hellish imagery.

Baphomet is said to be representative of the hermaphrodite which is the merging of male and female. We're told that the word "hermaphordite" comes from a merging of the names Hermes and Aphrodite. The ATBASH cipher may give some insight into Baphomet. The ATBASH cipher is formed by mapping the alphabet in reverse and when the Hebrew letters spelling Baphomet are applied to the cipher it generates “Sophia”. The Russian-Soviet writer Mikhail Bulgakov believed that Aphrodite was a manifestation of Sophia. Baphomet may represent a merging of Hermes (Osiris) and Aprhodite (Sophia or Isis). In his book 'Remains of Hesiod', the English theologian, Sir Charles Abraham, connects Osiris to Hermes. Some linguists have connected the root syllable “met” in “Baphomet” to the name of the god Mithra, worshipped by some Gnostics as an incarnation of divine wisdom. This connection is supported by Crowley whose etymological interpretation of Baphomet’s name came out to be “Father Mithras”. Mithraism has been subject to various interpretations and some have suggested that the story of Christ was based on the earlier story of Mithra. Both the births of Mithra and Christ are associated with divine intervention or a supernatural conception, both were born on December 25th, both were regarded as Sun-gods and had 12 companions, both were associated with resurrection, and both were regarded as saviour figures and mediators between humanity and the divine. In his scholarly article ‘The Origins of the Mithraic Mysteries: Cosmology and Salvation in the Ancient World’, David Ulansey says: “Christ is not merely like Mithra, he is Mithra”. Mithra also has androgynous qualities like Baphomet and is sometimes described as a hermaphrodite. For example, in his 1856 book ‘The Obstetric Memoirs and Contributions’, James Young Simpson says: “[German theologian August Tholuck said that] Mitra (Mithras of the ancient Persians) was hermaphrodite”. Mithra was equated with the Demiurge by some (for example, see the article ‘Mithras Demiourgos’, by Diego Romagnoli). The actual identity of Baphomet, whether it's Mithra, Harpocrates, Leviathan, or Osiris, remains shrouded in speculation, yet it's intriguing to note the connection between those entities and Christ. Despite its relatively ancient origins dating back to the 14th-century -- the identity of Baphomet continues to be enigmatic. When considering the mystery of Baphomet's identity -- one might ponder the hypothesis proposed by Abraxas Aletheia in his book 'Baphomet of Éliphas Lévi', suggesting that Baphomet could symbolize an esoteric Jesus Christ, who historian Leah De Vun describes as the "ultimate hermaphrodite" and a "merging of the male and female", based on a 15th-century text.

Thank you for the article. I didn’t know about substance Eitr, certainly need to search more about it.

My notes and theories

Another horned deity is also earliest form of Shiva called Pashupati. God Shiva is known as lord of snakes or nagas and Pashupati means lord of animals.

Another androgynous figure is pharaoh Akhenaten. I think pharaohs in general represented the same entity as Baphomet. Crown of pharaoh consists of two female deities Wadjet and Nekhbet joined into Uraeus. Also shape of connected winged snakes as I can perceive them somewhat resembles the shape of the crown, but crown lacks horns.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akhenaten https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_Ladies

In Ancient Egyptian texts, the "Two Ladies" (Ancient Egyptian: nbtj, sometimes anglicized Nebty) was a religious epithet for the goddesses Wadjet and Nekhbet, two deities who were patrons of the ancient Egyptians and worshiped by all after the unification of its two parts, Lower Egypt, and Upper Egypt. When the two parts of Egypt were joined together, there was no merger of these deities as often occurred with similar deities from various regions and cities. Both goddesses were retained because of the importance of their roles and they became known as the Two Ladies,[1] who were the protectors of unified Egypt.

After the unification, the image of Nekhbet joined Wadjet on the uraeus, thereafter, they were shown together as part of the crowns of Egypt. The Two Ladies were responsible for establishing the laws, protecting the rulers and the Egyptian countryside, and promoting peace.

The Uraeus (/jʊəˈriːəs/)[1] or Ouraeus (Ancient Greek: Οὐραῖος, Greek pronunciation: [οὐραῖος] ⓘ; Egyptian: jꜥrt, "rearing cobra", plural: Uraei) is the stylized, upright form of an Egyptian cobra, used as a symbol of sovereignty, royalty, deity and divine authority in ancient Egypt.

Lilith and Eve - two paths

In my theory there are two ways to merge feminine and masculine. Baphomet represents configuration in which feminine is above masculine as Lilith above Adam. See that feminine hand of Baphomet points up and masculine down. In this configuration being becomes androgyne and is able to breed as a “grey alien”, animal angel and probably cherub. The Story of Osiris and Isis may talk about certain aspects of such transformation into god of dead who takes care of souls in the time between incarnations.

Song Stairway to Heaven

4:30

Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on

6:40

And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold

-----------------

Another path makes the opposite. Adam is above Eve and I think this is the proper one for human beings. Result is sexless “IT” and by accomplishing that soul is liberated from this animal material plane of existence. Soul gets rid of snake masculine and feminine bodies and continues somewhere else where there is no gender and breeding. Just my opinion based on Advaita teachings.

Leviathan and fish

There is a circle of something like fish scales between Baphomet’s legs and Caduceus with snakes rises from the circle to Baphopet’s chest. Circle may represent aquatic environment and fish. Both snakes are new subtle body that soul which used to live as a fish receives inside of Baphomet's womb. After Baphomet/Abraxas gives birth to subtle snakes soul can incarnate as a land animal and also human being.

Mickey Mouse

When I was presenting pictures of connected winged snakes on some Czech spiritual forum one of members called that black and white winged shape Mickey Mouse 🙂

The Story of Osiris and Isis may talk about certain aspects of such transformation into god of dead who takes care of souls in the time between incarnations.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osiris_myth#Death_and_resurrection_of_Osiris

My pleasure. Article is bit long, also to compare Jesus to Baphomet is sensitive topic. I don’t want to further elaborate on whether Jesus had wings and horns. It’s not up to me.

Gospel of Thomas

(22) Jesus saw infants being suckled. He said to his disciples, "These infants being suckled are like those who enter the kingdom." They said to him, "Shall we then, as children, enter the kingdom?" Jesus said to them, "When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female; and when you fashion eyes in the place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, and a likeness in place of a likeness; then will you enter the kingdom."

No parents or animal hermaphrodites.

You gain nothing if you become Baphomet only freedom of wild animal, friendship of wild animals and eternal death in the end. You have to sacrifice a lot. First of all your humanity and opportunity to continue as human being. I am sure most of Baphomet worshipers don't know what they are dealing with. Main purpose of Baphomet/Abraxas is to make and carry snake children until she dies. If you would like to be a winged animal mother, you are welcome. To feel as god of all animals and humans is not big deal. I believe that worshipers are most driven by desire to become their own god. (I am not satanist nor I know any.) It really does work and you feel as one and only sun god of this planet, but I see it as manifestation of collective hive mind of all greys. It's kind of new animal divine self and nothing more, no traces of human intellect, behavior, compassion. Mostly feels like some cat sun father in bodies of winged cat mothers as one big lion pride around the Earth.

There is an interesting mathematical theory about number 666 as representation of binary base of computers and AI. If you add all numbers starting with 1 up to 666 you get 222111. Theory says that numbers 1 and 2 represent binary numerals to ancient people rather than 0 and 1, because they didn’t consider zero to be a number.

1 + 2 + ... + 5 + 6 = 21

1 + 2 + ... + 65 + 66 = 2211

1 + 2 + ... + 665 + 666 = 222111

On the other hand Buddha very likely had horns.

https://suttacentral.net/mn11/en/sujato?lang=en&layout=plain&reference=none&notes=asterisk&highlight=false&script=latin

The Shorter Discourse on the Lion’s Roar

So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery. There the Buddha addressed the mendicants, “Mendicants!”

“Venerable sir,” they replied. The Buddha said this:

“‘Only here is there a true ascetic, here a second ascetic, here a third ascetic, and here a fourth ascetic. Other sects are empty of ascetics.’ This, mendicants, is how you should rightly roar your lion’s roar.

4 billion views means there is an animal sleeping in every human being waiting to roar. 🙂

Part of the video 0:58-1:42 is very accurate. This is how it feels. You are single animal god compound of many beings, each of them is one grey. Also the head of a tiger is accurate, because your body is as a big cat’s head with big eyes, wings and snake as tongue. Your body is close to some funny cartoonish anime cat girl’s head. Levi’s version of Baphomet is only form of artwork. Templars supposedly worshiped Baphomet as a severed head, but also as a cat.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baphomet

The description of the object changed from confession to confession; some Templars denied any knowledge of it, while others, who confessed under torture, described it as being either a severed head, a cat, or a head with three faces.[19]

...

Gauserand de Montpesant, a knight of Provence, said that their superior showed him an idol made in the form of Baffomet; another, named Raymond Rubei, described it as a wooden head, on which the figure of Baphomet was painted, and adds, "that he worshipped it by kissing its feet, and exclaiming, 'Yalla', which was", he says, "verbum Saracenorum", a word taken from the Saracens. A templar of Florence declared that, in the secret chapters of the order, one brother said to the other, showing the idol, "Adore this head—this head is your god and your Mahomet."

— Thomas Wright, The Worship of the Generative Powers (1865)[27]

Quote is actually right as for my own crazy experience. Cat is quite a disappointment. In the beginning I was like “Wow, I am turning into a dragon.”, later when I started to give birth “I will be dragon queen.” and after I joined their hive mind “Okay, I am ordinary winged cat among many ascended animals.” 😇

The doctrine of the Trinity can also be traced back to Constantine's cult of Sol Invictus. It's not from Judaism because Elohim (translated as 'God') has male and female physical forms:

So Elohim created mankind in their image, in the image of Elohim created they them; male and female created they them.

Greys are like severed heads. I am sorry, all humanoid grey aliens are fantasies. Cherubim as little children are fantasies as well. Every form even form of an angel is temporary and mortal.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wandjina

Some Dreamtime stories say the Wandjina created the landscape and its inhabitants, and continue to have influence over both. When the spirits found the place they would die, they painted their images on cave walls and entered a nearby waterhole. These paintings were then refreshed by Aboriginal people as a method of regenerating life force.[1]

The Wandjina can punish those who break the law with floods, lightning and cyclones.[2]

Trinity preceding any human spirituality is Father + Mother + Child.

Quote

As Lévi explained: “The two sexes will be one, according to the word of Christ; the great androgyne will be created; humanity will be woman and man”.

I don't think humanity should seek this. You should rather incarnate as a lion or tiger to become "the great androgyne". Levi is wrong here.

Thank you for your post OP.

It’s a very important subject with ancient symbolism, which unfortunately over the cultural shift of mankind these symbols are easily interpreted to be the opposite of what they originally represented.

The ‘Alchemical Marriage’ or the ‘Great Work’ is the most popular ancient imagery we see literally everywhere on earth, etched, carved and drawn everywhere.

It’s like the ancients were trying to depict through symbols THE Ultimate Secret of Being, THE Ultimate Purpose, yet like a person trying to read a foreign language for the first time, the meaning cannot be read and understood.
The likes of Manly P Hall were great to express these truths in concepts modern humankind can relate to.

Another horned being depiction is of Cernunnos on the Gundestrup Cauldron, found in a bog in Denmark. From the BC era - it’s a large silver cauldron with etched plates inside and outside.
The wiki links are good for picture viewing and historical facts, but their interpretation of the imagery is pinch-of-salt territory.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gundestrup_cauldron

Cernunnos:

D2B44634-091C-4329-8433-D5FE7C17ACE2.jpeg.d4d75827b87c11e0ed12962e7b19ee13.jpeg

The symbolism is rich in this picture of the horned being.

Considering this is ‘celtic’, it’s interesting to see the buddhist cross-legged perineum pose, and controlled kundalini snake.
Ida, pingala and shushuma chakra kundalini energy in balance and controlled is shown.

The other plates on the cauldron depict scenes of mans journey of the ‘chemical marriage’. Slaying of bulls for instance represents killing off egoic self passions and inclinations.

Once the satanists/spiritual rebels got hold of ancient symbols to call their own, all authenticity of their divine origin became muddied, so that modern mankind interpretations are apt to see evil where there is purity.
This CONFUSION is a product of the ego mind, of course, so it is no surprise.

Baphomet goat symbolism is drenched in deep symbolism, i suspect even lower ego Levi at the time of creating it was likely not aware of the vastness of such imagery, and the true wisdom aspects of himself were inspiring him.

Reams can be written about every single aspect shown and how that aspect is vital for our spiritual development towards wholeness/union.

The goat symbolism alone is  the only animal to use on earth to represent groundedness. Its the symbol of saturn, which is the physical realm, physical laws etc.  Goats are also astounding climbers. They’re able to scale the most vertical mountains, fearlessly, DUE to being grounded.

For man to have any chance of reaching our true consciousness potential, groundedness and overcoming fear is a pre-requisite.

The Rebis you mention is always depicted as the hermaphrodite standing upon a dragon. Slaying the massive egoic fears humanity holds, is essential for the development of mankind.
These dragons are like the (self-created fear) beings which are often termed “The Dweller at the Threshold” - We have to slay them, to reach a different level of consciousness.

The chemical marriage is the journey within to discover heaven is not a place, but a state of consciousness.

That state, which is waiting for everyone, right now, behind their ego. If we could magically ‘just’ completely dissolve our human earth ego mind, we’d perceive truth and reality once more.

The Hermes Trismegistus drawing of Rebis is beautifully symbolically rich:

77E423D1-D4A2-4E72-B49D-D70C3BB35C88.jpeg.73d0c6c9aecca7df6234ae0b634caf8e.jpeg

To elevate above the physical lower ego dragon-mind earth cultures actively encourages us to develop, we have to control the dragon.
The Rebis in each of us is already INHERENT.

We don’t have to develop or create it.

We, instead have to transform, dissolve our lower ego aspects that PREVENTS us from perceiving the ‘Rebis’ - Non-Dual Unified Consciousness Field, AKA Heaven.

I like Rebis picture. No horns, no other animal features only human figures, male symbol above female symbol. Dragon is still alive and holding the Earth, but Rebis is liberated and dragon can't control liberated soul anymore. Two commandments of Jesus are certainly safe proper path for everyone.

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mathew 22&version=WEB

37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’Deuteronomy 6:5 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’Leviticus 19:18 40 The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

But dragons are real. Kundalini can descend through Muladhara chakra to the world of nagas. Don't try to love other living beings more than yourself or dragons could visit you. They are able to sense your ego is strong. 🙂

(7) Jesus said, "Blessed is the lion which becomes man when consumed by man; and

The lion and the man are described in Ezekiel's temple:

And [it was] made with cherubims and palm trees, so that a palm tree [was] between a cherub and a cherub; and [every] cherub had two faces;
So that the face of a man [was] toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side: [it was] made through all the house round about.
Ezekiel 41:18-19

The lion who consumes a man is hinted at in Hosea with the reference to being raised on the third day (Judas is an Anglicised form of Judah).

For I [will be] unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, [even] I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue [him].
I will go [and] return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.
Come, and let us return unto YHWH: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
Hosea 5:14-6:2

Also the lion of the house or tribe of Judah relates to revelation.

And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
Revelation 5:5

"Set" was also the original name of Isis in ancient Egypt. Isis was originally known by the name "A-Set" or "I-Set".

Set/Seth/Sheth is named in Balaam's vision:

I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.

December 25 doesn't work for Molnar's solution, and the association of Christ with the sun comes from Constantine's cult of Sol Invictus. The association with resurrection originated with Caiaphas and was developed by the Pharisees as Christian doctrine using the manufactured account of the Holy Lance. Also the Christian salvic role is not supported by Isaiah and Hosea.

From Michael Molnar:

The Magi's star is proposed to have been a pair of auspicious lunar occultations of Jupiter that signified to ancient astrologers the birth of a king. These events ocurred in the zodiacal sign of Aries that symbolized Herod's kingdom during this era. The birth of Christ probably corresponded to the first lunar occultation on 6 BC March 20, that exhibited astrological attributes found in imperial horoscopes. One month later, a second lunar occultation of Jupiter in Aries coincided with the heliacal rising of Jupiter. This time the occultation took place in the general direction of Bethlehem with respect from Jerusalem which agrees with the Biblical account that the star "in the east" (heliacal rising) reoccurred and "stood over where they young child was".

The idea that Set or Seth is associated with Saturn is something I am familar with. But from my research, Saturn is Horus/Osiris/Christ.

There are some curious correlations and divergences between Christ and Saturn. One such correlation is the fact that in ancient times the Romans celebrated Saturn with a festival called Saturnalia in late December which is what we still do today -- but the celebration of Christ has now taken the place of Saturn. In her book 'Did Moses Exist', author Dorothy Murdock corresponds Christ to the Sun-God Shamash (Saturn), saying:

"In consideration of how many of the same characteristics the two figures share, it may come as no surprise that King Jesus is identified with Shamash biblically. In the book of Malachi (4:2) which precedes directly the first New Testament text, generally the gospel of Matthew-the prophet writes of the coming "Sun of Righteousness" who will arise with "healing in its wings". This solar symbolism ranks as highly ancient, long predating the composition of the Old Testament, as shown, with the Sun viewed since remote antiquity as the righteous judge and guardian of the world, as well as the savior and healer, frequently depicted as winged because of the fact that birds fly high, towards the solar orb. The "Sun of Righteousness" in Malachi is considered to be the coming messiah, Jesus Christ, whose solar attributes rate as extensive. Malachi's original Hebrew uses the word Shemesh/Shamash to describe the saviour, serving as a divine title, not just the physical Sun. Hence, Jesus basically is Shamash".

She goes on to give more comparisons. Another correlation is that the planetary symbol for Saturn when mirrored and overlaid ends up being a match for Christ’s so-called Sacred Heart paintings. Another, perhaps less important correlation is that according to Leo Allatius, a 17th-century theologian, the foreskin of Christ divinely ascended to Saturn, suggesting a connection.

This isn't sufficient to explain the astrological significance of the star of Bethlehem, or the prophetic reference to it from the Torah. It also can't explain the twins, eg Jacob  and his twin brother Esau -> the king of the Jews(descended from Jacob)/king Herod (descended from Esau), or the twins of the crucifixion.

Quote

Matthew reports that the Star tells the astrologers about the date, place, character, and future of the birth of a child. That is, the Star tells the astrologers about the birth of a very great king to be born in Judea on some date, and that is exactly what a natal horoscope gives. It seems to be past coincidence that the Star in Matthew tells the ancient astrologers exactly what a natal horoscope tells to ancient astrologers

Jesus was associated withe the righteous servant (Isaiah 53:11, Psalm 35:27), not the sun of righteousness.

And they shall be mine, saith YHWH of armies, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth Elohim and him that serveth him not.
Malachi 3:17-18

Jesus referred to YHWH as his Father, so the servant son is part of the context of your verse.

Discerning between the righteous from the wicked relates to the righteous servant versus the wickedness of Herod and the religious elites who were politically aligned with him. Saturnalia was a celebration involving immorality, if not outright wickedness, and was of course associated with Rome rather than with the king of the Jews.

For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the YHWH of armies, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
Malachi 4:1

The burning of the proud and wicked is described in the gospels and in the messianic chapters of Zechariah.

Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Matthew 7:19

In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, [even] in Jerusalem.
Zechariah 12:6

But this was an event that has yet to occur....

10 Jesus said: I have cast fire upon the world, and behold I guard it until it is ablaze.

There are certainly interesting associations between Saturn and Christian iconography. IMO it's part of a broader religious overlay that was applied to first century messianism to make it appear to conform with Gentile religions. The key idea of the overlay is the distinction between what is sacred (set-apart), from what is universal (katholika), i.e. Catholic. This idea is expressed as a parable in the gospels:

Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
Matthew 13:33

The three measures of meal follow from the story of the circumcision of Abraham when he was visited by three men. The story then moves to the distinction between the righteous and the wicked.

And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead [it], and make cakes upon the hearth.
Genesis 18:6

Leaven represents the doctrine of the religious elites who were aligned with Herod:

Then understood they how that he bade [them] not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
Matthew 16:12

Hand and foot (making two into one):

For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
Psalms 22:16

a likeness in place of a likeness:

(the second man is the twin of the crucifixion)

And [one] shall say unto him, What [are] these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, [Those] with which I was wounded [in] the house of my friends.

Zechariah 13:6-7

Quran 4:157-158
