Brace for NUCLEAR WAR in 2024

I don't know if it makes a difference to the half life of the fallout, but Hiroshima was bombed with "Little Boy" a 15 kT uranium bomb, and Nagasaki with "Fat Man" a 21 kT plutonium bomb. And those are quite low yields of kilo-tons by today's standards.

I think cruise missiles can travel at low altitudes and hug the terrain, using systems like TERCOM and GPS.

i'm taking about a nuke blast.

all nuke footage is on flat plains.

answer this

when a nuke blast zooms up a large hill and gets to the top does it

a) travel down the other side

b) keep moving in an upward trajectory

The blinding light and radiation penetrates everything, even concrete depending on its thickness.

If you’re ever caught out and a nuclear blast is imminent, dig a ft deep trench the length of your body and lie in it- facing the blast, so you’re feet are facing the explosion and your torso and head are furthest from the detonation.

If you are standing up or sitting facing a blast even in a house or bunker, the front of your body (brain, eyes, internal organs) will take the brunt and will absorb the most radiation.

If you dig a trench and lie towards the blast, your feet and legs will absorb the most radiation, saving your internal organs and brain till last.

This is military advice.

I think if I was that close to the blast I’d probably just cover myself in cooking oil and stand naked on the roof of my house.
Quicker death.

I’m not sure the PTB even want a nuclear war. Just seems to unpredictable to me.
I think maybe a few key sites could be nuked or blasted away but only ones that would sever energy grids/cables and food production. Then make sure nobody has any petrol for their cars and transport (trucks, ambulances, fire service) and you have a society that would be cut off from food and energy with no means to get out…. Without the need to nuke the planet.

Good question, the nuke tests are on flat land or underground. The bombs on Japan were detonated mid-air. I don't know how it would exactly travel over a hill but if I had to guess I'd say there'd still be some blast on the other side but with less force.  I live on a hill so it might affect me!

If the ptb was planning a limited nuclear war somewhere, it'd likely cause a crash in the financial markets and an easy way for those in the know to make a lot of money.

Mmm crispy fried goodness.

nah this is advice for if you’re away from the initial blast radius but you can still see the flash. If you can see the flash, you’re basically having the equivalent of billions of X-rays getting projected through your body. This technique will save the most important parts of your body from radiation penetration and future illness, and could save your life.

I don’t think a trench will save you if your within the blast radius.

It’ll only work if you know the direction the blast is coming from beforehand.

My money would be on London direction.

I just don’t think my wife would accept a trench in our garden right now. Iv already dedicated the cellar to ‘apocalypse’ storage for food and radio stuff.

Its interesting you say that though, I watched Oppenheimer the other evening and when they were observing the test blasts all the soldiers lay face down away from the flash.

Either a trench will work or it won't, the direction of the blast wouldn't effect that ?

The only thing that will save you from a nuclear blast is luck....or a really well built underground shelter. But even if you survive the blast, well, thats when the real fun starts.

In a country the size of the UK, luck will most likely have you directly under the bomb, all the civil contingency plans and admin bunkers they had during the cold war have been scrapped, as useless as those arrangements probably were. We don't even have that now.

But  there is no need to nuke the uk to take it out of the game, we  have no defence infrastructure for dealing with conventional weapons either, a few dozen well placed cruise missiles and we are toast

It does.

You can be far enough away from the blast that the explosion wouldn’t affect you, but the bright flash before the explosion carries intense radiation that can damage you. It goes through everything.

If you’re lying down in the earth with feet towards the flash, the brunt of the radiation will be taken by the earth and your feet/legs, so your internal organs and brain will absorb less, prolonging your life.

But who’d want to live in a post apocalyptic nuclear wasteland anyway?

I’m sure she’ll come around to the idea, especially if you tell her it’s a new flower bed.

A flower bed that just doesn’t ever seem to get finished.

Then judgment day comes along, and it’ll click.

Just got to work out which way is London

Which can best be summarised by " trenches are no use at all,

But please explain why your feet being 6 ft nearer the source of the blast than your head, means your brain will get significantly less radiation, how much less are we talking. It sounds like one of those 1950s duck and cover stories

Do you mean a 1 ft deep trench?  That doesn't seem much protection from any sort of blast, nuclear or not. We'd be better off with a WW2 anderson shelter buried underground.
