My old phone is shit and i like it that way.

Kelli
I'd love to "ditch it" but now everyone we are forced to deal with from banks to government services requires a 2-step login process, that involves them sending a code to your smartphone before they will allow you to log in, 'for our own protection'. Of course it is.
Future9T3
Sainsbury's (not sure if all) have a closed gate at the self service checkouts that ive seen, you have to scan the barcode on your receipt to be let out! Been at it a while it seems, found this article from Dec 2022 https://www.retailgazette.co.uk/blog/2022/12/sainsburys-scan-receipts-exit/ All the supermarkets are using different tactics to nudge the behaviour, but so obviously heading to the same Digital ID direction. 2
Anti Facts Sir
I dunno....might that just be a way of cutting down on shoplifting in particularly bad areas? It's scanning a receipt, not asking you to do so with a phone or ID recognition.
Future9T3
yeah that is true, will have to see if these systems start to morph in the future into something else. can see how an ulterior motive could be played to get people used to scanning 'something'
Anti Facts Sir
Absolutely, introduce by stealth. Even someone like me is thinking "oh that's not unreasonable"....and that's how it begins of course. Don't use Sainsburys (or Tesco or those German ones) so not aware of a lot of this crap being brought in. Those places just feel "off". Bad vibes. 1

Also if enough people still using big shops refuse to be nudged and keep using the Original method of purchasing ie cash then this would stop 1
Nemuri Kyoshiro
When I lived in London all those years ago, I used to buy what I needed from the local street markets. I don't know if they still exist but I'd rather buy my fruit and veg from the local market that any supermarket. However, I digress. Remember when they introduced loyalty cards? They were the thin end of the wedge and as soon as they got the public used to those, it only took a small step to where we a re now. In my part of the world, they are asking whether I want to link my phone to my purchases. If I get the app, I get great deals on whatever they are pushing that week. So far I haven't bit. 1

I always refused 'Loyalty' cards on the premise that they were only 'loyal' to the issuer, another way to watch you, and see what you spent your money on most, a way to build up more knowledge about your spending habits, and for whatever 'pittance' they saved you, it was not worth the bother to help them in their prying ways!

A friend of my wife has every loyalty card you can think of, her purse is virtually on rollers it's so full of those things, but she is, to be honest, quite a greedy person who would agree to being cursed by a witch if it was FREE! CitizenPower
At an Aldi here in Commiefornia they installed self check out with a huge camera screen in your face. Whenever I use it my face is out of view. I'm sure the pics are being fed to AI for future facial recognition and digital currency.
