CarpeDiem
When this was talked about by David years and years ago, it was just another conspiracy theory by that nutter. Are people ever going to wake up and take notice? https://news.sky.com/story/cost-of-living-latest-cost-of-household-appliances-from-july-revealed-as-new-savings-account-one-of-highest-in-decade-12615118
oz93666
What's your problem with this Carpe ? Free Money from the government ! "A universal basic income of £1,600 a month is to be trialled in England for the first time. Thirty people in two parts of the country will be paid a lump sum each month for two years - with no conditions. They will be observed to see how they live. The people taking part live in central Jarrow, in the North East, and East Finchley, in north London. Researchers from thinktank Autonomy are seeking financial backing for the pilot, with supporters saying it could simplify the welfare system and tackle poverty." This is a trial experiment , just 30 people so they will follow them to see where it's spent , obviously if it's rolled out for the whole country they're not going to track everyone . The trail is going to take 2 years so it'll be a long time before everyone gets this. Presuably the participants in this trial will fill out a form as to how they spend the money , don't know how reliable this will be? will anyone put down 20 quid on a bag of weed Edited June 5 by oz93666

Nearly 20 grand a year - do you still get away without paying Council tax and get free prescriptions etc? I wish I got that much on my pension. I bet the money will be monitored on a "special" card or app. Edited June 5 by k_j_evans
Anti Facts Sir
Pity the government don't really want to help people - imagine if they hadn't spent the last few years trying to claw back every penny they could off my Mum's pension and made it harder and harder for her to get the help she needed with council stuff. Poncing around with iniatives, bribing her to have jabs, bribing her to take gift vouchers in exchange for signing away her independence. Constantly sending her shite in the post, full of info that nobody outside of the civil service understands or can make sense of. Imagine if none of that had happened, and she'd got the pension she paid into, got her bins collected without fuss, got left in peace to spend her savings without the threat of this-or-that bollocks in the name of "climate change" and "public health and safety". Been able to go to the bloody GP without being refused to be seen as she wasn't important enough and "because Covid". Been able to go into a bank and discuss anything she needed to, instead of trying to decipher some non-native speaking muppet across the other side of the world on a call centre's loudspeaker. Maybe she wouldn't have lost her fucking mind. 5

If it's being funded privately, then what would motivate anyone to donate their own money to a bunch of strangers, unless there was a payback. Come to think of it, what's the payback for the govt too? Just "observing how they live" is very vague, you don't spend millions like this without a well planned business case.

Perhaps to gauge how many idiots would willingly sign up to such a scheme. If the numbers are good, maybe they'll get the investement.

Supposed to (among other things) simplify benefits system, but it's way above personal allowance for tax, so would have to pay income tax which makes it more complex - more people to chase. And if you are going to tax it at source, why not just not give it out to start with and save on paying the civil servants to chase it? If you are NOT gong to tax it, why not just raise the personal allowance? They're all mad. quite mad. I'm not paying for some chav down the road in Jarra' to get pissed more often. Pfft!

LastOneLeftInTheCounty
WE’RE the products! They’re paying us to be their products. In their eyes it’s a fair exchange By the time this comes in, things will be so bad it’ll be a lifeline for poor even middle class people. The AI needs its charges, it’s a data hungry beast. Fail to feed it and it’ll start a nuke war or flood a continent. The rich don’t need to worry as they already have theirs hooks into the game. As long as we subconsciously accept we’re being totally enslaved there shouldn’t be a problem
