Mr H
I was on a retreat where we were only allowed to wash our bodies and teeth with water. I was there for only 2 weeks, but some others for 6 months. What I noticed was that you actually after a few days have less body odour than when washing with soap. Hair especially with people staying longer looked really healthy although it gets extremely clumpy. Teeth, surprisingly don't get bad breath. But we were smoking pure tobacco, some people after several months did have slight tooth ache. Conclusion. After this experience I will definitely be using soap, shampoo and toothpaste a lot less than before. Nice to have an occasional spruce up but I don't think it's necessary daily 1
Campion
Interesting experiment, shows how we're indoctrinated to buy more stuff than we need. And I wonder if it depends whether you have hard or soft water? What kind of retreat was it to have rules like that?

Was interesting

Not saying it should be, but tell us please if not anything of the above, how this A Y A U S C A came to be a word if you can? Or what background has it canny to know?..... assuming you know at least something having been directly involved with it. What is the mantra or mission of it's code sts?.... Or more simply general aim & purpose?....Such as was it a Spiritual Detox as well as body detoxifying event?? Sounds like it could be that too. Will the experiment do you think turn into something more? (not suggesting a cult, lol).... Oooh and anything on the feet?? Was it a barefoot exercise for example as one of the things being tried out?.... or was it mainly about the use of water with less commodities and not much else, at this stage? Was interesting I went to a 10 day meditation retreat that had no speaking & touching too. After about a week of being very serious someone started giggling and we all couldn't help ourselves laughing at the absurdity of it all. It was like a sober high . And I had an out of body experience too, it was an amazing time. My life is too full up of other stuff with family and work to do it now.

Nice to have an occasional spruce up but I don't think it's necessary daily This is a great observation, also found this to be true, after using shower gels and soap I’d get a skin reaction and I’d find my body odour was worse after a few hours using these products instead of just using water and scrubbing well. They must change the skin ph or do something to the pores, the result is more bacteria feeding on the surface of your skin, hence more odour
timjulius1122
That was a good experiment but I think that if we don't use shampoo or toothpaste etc, that was really unhygienic and can be caused us several infection in our body. so we have to use these things on daily basis. what do you think? My observation is the product they sell in boots for your body, would you eat it,? If not why put it onto the largest surface area of the body which has the ability to absorb? I think water is sufficient but it's nice to smell nice too any natural products should work.

The Romans used to go to the public baths, bathe in lots of water, get covered in oil and have it scraped off to get clean. Sounds more fun than soap and shower gel!
