Social Engineering .... and much more!

Recommended Posts

Don't care if you like me or not .... not a shit :)

This thread is about cyber security which encompasses a vast amount. Be interested or don't .... Not my problem anymore thankfully .... your choice as it should be!

Lets start with "Social Engineering" .... and what that actually is (then later we may go into other cyber sec topics .. or fucking not).

So a major 'name' in this field is Jenny Radcilffe.

A short intro ...

Quote

A burglar for hire, a professional con-artist, and an expert in Non-verbal communications, deception and persuasion techniques, she is an ethical Social Engineer, a “people hacker” hired to smash security measures, using psychology, con-artistry, subliminal linguistics, cunning and guile. She has led simulated criminal attacks on businesses of all types and sizes, running crews with varied expertise and experience, in order to help secure client sites and information from malicious attacks.

A good starter video ... 19 mins

Let me know if you wish me to go further?

yes I guess a 19 minute video is vastly too long these days ... would be better if it was just a meme with a 30 second tic tok video!

But hey, maybe information (which one may find of interest) takes a bit more than idiocracy can or will allow?

Anyway .... this isn't quite cyber sec, but it is (or maybe) social engineering!?

But it is some reading (and maybe research) .... also the video is 35 mins long .... so that's fucked for most!!!

We all know that shit is put into the atmosphere .... so how about this shit being used to remove freewill? (a small percent of people have a vastly higher tolerance to it).

'Devil's breath' aka scopolamine: can it really zombify you?

The substance has been blamed for thousands of crimes in South America. Now there are reports of the incapacitating drug being used in street robberies in Paris. From use by Nazis to obstetricians, it certainly has a colourful history

One of the most enduring hoaxes you might hear in a backpacker hostel is that of the drug-soaked business card: someone hands you their card, and the drug is instantly absorbed by your skin. You fall into a zombie-like state, where you will do anything for your attacker, from empty out your bank account to pull a trigger on someone.

The drug is burandanga, or scopolamine, derived from nightshade plants, and there are countless stories about how criminals in Colombia and Ecuador use the drug, which is said to remove a person’s free will, to assault victims or rob them. It is also known as “devil’s breath” and has been described as “the most dangerous drug in the world”. It’s hard to know which are urban myths and which are genuine. The US’s Overseas Security Advisory Council warns travellers in Quito about the dangers of falling victim to a scopolamine attack, and refers to “unofficial estimates” – it doesn’t say where this figure is from – of 50,000 scopolamine incidents there every year.

Quote

VICE went to Colombia to check out a strange and powerful drug called Scopolamine, also known as "The Devil's Breath." It's a substance so intense that it renders a person incapable of exercising free will. The first few days in the country were a harrowing montage of freaked-out dealers and unimaginable horror stories about Scopolamine. After meeting only a few people with firsthand experience, the story took a far darker turn than we ever could have imagined.

So I’ve watched the video above. Really interesting. Won’t lie, the inner workings of how this field works are mostly an over my Luddite head. Would appreciate more posts from you about this. Seems I need to get my head deliberately out of the sand and learn more.

I just attended, this week, a presentation by Jenny and it was fascinating!

She is such an intelligent, entertaining, educational and skilled women .... but still totally down to earth and real (even though she has sold the rights to her 'life story' (for a 7 figure sum) to be made into a film).

Lovely lass to chat with as well.

This is her book ....

About the book here but you can do a search anyway

Could have (and would have liked to) spoke to her for hours .... such a life!!

Will do Bomb .... just a tad unsure how far to go??

Don't want to teach 'naughty things' nor give the 'tools' to do so .... will need to find a balance?

This is crazy stuff. Never heard of it before your post.

It was just a thought as to why (maybe) the mass do as they do .... spray that shit around and via media tell people what to do (or maybe it is simpler and the mass are just npc's or morons).

you talked about that if you are on the internet that you are known, something in the pictures,in the background

Hey Screaming .... Tracking pixels.

You know that you can put hidden text into images .... you can also put tracking pixels in as well (or just on your own site as a transparent pixel).

More about that here:
https://www.digitalmarketer.com/blog/what-is-tracking-pixel/

But it is old stuff now.

What you could get it to do is to 'ping' back to your own IP address (or any proxy address) any IP address that views the image!

The only ways to not be known and tracked is not to be connected to the internet .... or to really know what you are doing and to use things like Kali OS or Parrot Sec OS which can not just try and hide your IP but also spoof your mac address, IP address and fingerprint ... also then using tor but over a vpn (along with many other considerations you would need to implement).

A good podcast is Darknet Diaries:

https://darknetdiaries.com

They have a lot of chats about cyber sec (link is to social engineering as you can see) you can listen to (very interesting well to me anyway):

https://darknetdiaries.com/categories/#social engineering

They do have a youtwattube if you want (all the videos are around the hour mark .... yes too long but you may be interested anyway):

https://www.youtube.com/@JackRhysider

Videos (well it is more just a podcast with some cartoon graphics) such as this which I found of interest:

"I rob banks for a living," but it's all totally legal🎙Darknet Diaries Ep. 66: Freakyclown

To learn about cyber security it is best to use websites which allow such actions.

Else you may find that you will get 'nicked'!

Many 'tools' exist and can be freely downloaded but to use them and not actually know what you are doing will put you in a very difficult place!

Most 'tools' should only be used on your own 'lab' within your own LAN or on sites which have given expressed permission to you to do so!

Operating Systems such as Kali or Parrot can be installed with over 600 'tools' .... but really .... don't use them unless you know what the fuck you are doing .... You will be nicked!

There are good sites to learn some fundamentals such as:

https://tryhackme.com

or

https://www.hackthebox.com

Both charge a monthly for the complete set of teaching but each has 'free' parts as well.

Or on some vendors sites you can get free full courses (such as Port Swigger who are the creators of Burp Suite .... which is hacking software) which will teach you how to use the 'tool':

https://portswigger.net/web-security

All legal .... unless you use it on a site which has not asked you to! <<<< you will be nicked (learn how to use it safely).

There are many, many sites/courses all free and I will begin to link to them if you are interested?
