Not proven verdict to be abolished in Scotland.

This move is part of wider judicial reforms. Most alarming, is the news about a pilot scheme that will allow just one judge, with no jury at all, to decide whether someone is guilty of rape or only attempted rape. Nothing undemocratic to worry about here then.

'Not proven verdict to be scrapped in Scottish courts.'

'A new specialist sexual offences court will be created and a pilot project will see rape and attempted rape cases being held without a jury, with a single judge deciding whether or not the accused is guilty.'
