CrowintheSnow
What is it with Encephalitis-causing Ticks now? As if Lyme disease wasn't bad enough? https://news.sky.com/story/tick-borne-virus-detected-in-several-areas-in-england-ukhsa-warns-12850215 So scary !! Right at the Easter break when people are thinking of going out in Nature, going on good long walks, getting some vitamin D, lifting up their vibes by being outside in green spaces, camping, having picnics, kids playing in the woods which is when kids are truly happy. Designed to make us afraid of doing those things maybe? So we'll all stay in our nice concrete jungles where there are no brain-disease causing Ticks. Or is it all part of the plan to keep us in towns and cities, and away from the countryside? There's nothing like feeling in the back of your mind that you have to check you, your kids, your dogs, every five minutes for potentially deadly Ticks. Wrap up, wear lots of clothes, cover yourself in stinky dubious Deet or some other immune-wrecking pesticide. Sort of takes the joy out of a country walk or a picnic doesn't it. Let's all stay at home and watch TV...? It gets to the mind and removes the joy and puts fear in place of it. I'll just say I have had literally HUNDREDS of Tick bites over the years. I get them off as soon as I see one, and do make a check if I've been in undergrowth -sure. It is good to be sensible. If bitten, I put a herbal antiseptic on immediately. But not once have I been made ill by a Tick bite, and I once had a Lyme test after having 40 embedded Ticks on me (which I picked off with a needle), with a follow up at a later date. Nope. No Lyme. I begin to feel suspicious when I see yet another fear instilled in us. Fear now of being outside in a beautiful place in the sunshine in Spring. It seems "they" want to give us one thing after another to fear in constant succession in the last few years.
peter
Back in the early 80's there was a disease called Murray Valley Encephalitis it appeared, was around for a short time then disappeared ,it was 100% fatal, that scared the shit out of a lot of people, less than ten died from memory. Now if you look at things in context most people don't give much thought to the flu, because most who catch it survives ,however the flu kills many many thousands every year. So what I'm saying is don't put too much credence in the idiot box and news papers and like you say fear is a great engineering tool, when people are afraid they can't think rationally , covid being a prime example and since covid is pretty much dead and buried I guess they need something new
Macnamara
I wouldn't be surprised if porton down were creating new weaponised tick born diseases as part of the agenda to drive people out of the country and into 15 minute smart cities. They certainly seem to be gearing up to make something of the whole 'avian flu' thing With ticks though if you are not walking far then wellies are a good way to avoid ticks. They are no good for longer walks though as they rub heels and cause blisters Pale trousers make it easy to see tics and you can crush them between your thumb nails with a 'crack' sound You can get specialist tick tweezers and its worth taking a small plastic container with you and if a tick has properly latched then remove it and put it in the plastic container. If you later develop the 'bullseye' marking on the site of the bite or if you develop lyme disease symptoms of any kinds you can hand that tick over to the doctors as then they can get it sent to the lab to see what kind of disease you are dealing with. Apparently that can really simplify treatment. Just make sure the wee beasties can't escape from your pot. Sticking them to a bit of tape and then putting them in the pot will make sure you don't lose them. If carrying those items seems like a hassle then you could keep them (tick tweezers, small pot & medical tape) in a first aid kit in your car where you can do a 'tick check' once you get back from your walk. peter
The easiest and safest way to remove a tic is by covering it with a thick layer of cream it doesn't matter what type after 20 or so min they will back out because you have effectively cut off their air supply ,that way you remove the entire tic and don't leave the head to be dug out latter, and also you are not disturbing it causing it to pump in more poison , Edited April 7 by peter

Nice one, you've ticked all the boxes there, excellent advice about dealing with those blood suckers, but what about the bigger blood suckers, the bankers, the loan companies, the government, and the even bigger blood suckers, the so called 'Royal' family and all their hangers on etc?

Smother them with a dollop of cream.
