jonah
Can the king be coronated without the pillow of David. As British monarchy derived the right to rule from the divine, through the stone of scone. Now the stone is missing and the profescy of the end of the blood line seems to loome. All British Kings and Queens were crowned on the stone until now. Go people your thoughts on this please? Macnamara
I don't think the royals claim a right to rule from the stone of destiny. English kings and queens were being coronated without it before it was looted from scotland. Also the stone that was taken from scone and rested in westminster was likely not the real stone of destiny as the original stone is said to have carvings on it. That stone was likely spirited away into hiding as Edward I's troops approached. The stone they took may even be simply the hatch of an underground chamber that had been lifted aside to remove the real stone. But some points to consider: first of all the stone itself may only be a symbolic representation of the true 'stone' and therefore represents a prop. Secondly when a scottish monarch was crowned a bard would recite the lineage of the monarch going back many generations to illustrate their kingly line. Thirdly the spot itself may have been significant as a power centre as next to the palace is a small mound that everyone overlooks but which I suggest is an old 'moot' hill. Nearby you have dunsinane hill which was king macbeth's capital and the nearby city of perth used to be the capital when it was known as st john's toun (it's football team is known to this day as st johnstone). The stone then represented only a part of the overall mise-en-scene
