MP Clive Lewis, who represents Norwich South, had been threatened with legal action if he did not pledge total allegiance to "King Charles's, all of his heirs, and all of his successors"

Swearing-in is the process by which MPs and members of the House of Lords take an oath of allegiance to the Crown before officially taking their seats in parliament.

But Lewis, who opposes the monarchy, swore to serve the people and the country.

After being warned that he faced a fine of £500 and the prospect of losing his seat, he said " "I was elected to parliament to represent my constituents and our country to the best of my ability to defend democracy and uphold human rights and one day I hope all members of parliament will be entitled to swear an oath of allegiance based on those values.

The majority of the public are committed to democracy, and so I hope one day MPs can swear an oath based on those values.

If I had not re-sworn the oath, then based on a law from 1866, I could be fined, subjected to legal action, and my seat 'shall be vacated in the same manner as if (I) were dead

This should change, so MPs have the choice to swear allegiance to our constituents and democracy.

The State Opening takes place in the House of Lords chamber on the first day of the new parliamentary session, which usually falls in November but this year is falling on a different date due to a change in government

Followed this link : the kate here at wimbledon looks nothing like the kate at the trooping - was there an actors strike, was the trooping kate unavailable, was there a clash of dates or agendas, what is the real story here ?

I wish they would make their minds up as to which actress kate they want to use and stick with it, it must be terribly confusing for the sheep not knowing which nazi arse they should be kissing

Putting this here, as the Royals must have been aware of Edwards and his antics over the years, and no doubt he protected theirs.

Always thought years ago that sneer on his lip indicated sadistic behaviour.

I wonder if Sir Keir Starmer was aware of all of this, in his position in the Crown Prosecution Service, or did it pass him by, like the decades of crimes by Jimmy Savile?

 

Great to see the royals doing so much for young people's mental health.

The monarchy is to get an extra £45m from profits due to six new offshore wind farms. Because for some strange inexplicable reason the royals own the entire seabed surrounding britan.

Profits from the Crown Estate have increased to £3bn, which leads to a rise in the Sovereign Grant

The grant will rise from £86.3m to to £132m in 2025/2026

The annual finance report also revealed plans by the Royal Family to buy new helicopters,  go on more holidays and buy more property, all to be funded by the taxpayer

The period covered by the accounts - April 1 2023 to March 31 2024 - shows that £600,000 from the Sovereign Grant was spent on the coronation and events surrounding it last year, with the total cost to the Sovereign Grant £800,000.

 

Now the Sovereign Grant will be £232m.

 

Graham Smith, chief executive of anti-monarchy group Republic, said: "We do not owe the royals a living, we do not owe them palatial homes, private helicopter travel or lives of leisure and luxury. They abuse the taxpayer's trust day in day out taking our money to spend on their own private lifestyles."

They own the land, the seabed, and anything else you can think of. I remember my neighbour telling me decades ago that even though he owns his home, the Crown owns the land it stands on.

PARIS — A single dinner cost nearly €475,00 -  for the two rothschilds Chaz and Macron Rothschild

That's right, nearly half a million euros for one meal !!!!! Macron's diplomatic and presidential roles as well as administration, personnel, security and estate management, reached a whopping €225 million, sending the books €8.3 million into the red.

Macron hosted Chaz in September last year at Versailles for a  feast with at least 160 invitees including Rolling Stones’ singer Mick Jagger and British actor Hugh Grant, who all made pyramid symbols with their hands.

The dinner, during which guests enjoyed blue lobster ae macaroons cost the French presidency close to €475,000 — including over €165,000 on catering and over €400,000 on wine (including a bottle of 2004 Château Mouton Rothschild) and other drinks.

Third-party caterers and decorators led costs to increase, total cost: upwards of €400,000.

France’s audit court nonetheless acknowledged some cost-saving efforts, underlining the Élysée’s thriftiness when hosting “cocktails for less than 100 people,” events during which the Palace’s in-house kitchen staff is usually preferred over external contractors.

The Cour des Comptes also slammed the French presidency’s poor travel-planning skills, pointing to a loss of over €2,030,000 generated by the cancellation of 12 apparently non-refundable trips. A planned but subsequently cancelled trip to Germany in July 2023 alone led to a loss of nearly €2,000,000, mostly due to transport and accommodation costs.

Responding to the huge sums involved after the publication of the report, the Élysée said: “France maintains close diplomatic relations with a large number of countries, which organize equivalent events when they receive the Head of State.”
