'It's like building a sun on Earth': Las Vegas locals warn Londoners over capital's new concert venue shaped like a glowing orb the size of Big Ben with 36million lights

Londoners have been warned over the building of a huge new concert venue in the shape of glowing orb as its twin building in Las Vegas has been compared to a 'sun on Earth' by residents. Plans for the Madison Square Garden (MSG) Sphere (renderings pictured) in Stratford, East London, progressed last week after its advertising display - which will run from dawn until late at night - on the Big Ben-sized venue with 36million LED lights was approved by a London planning committee. The display on the Las Vegas version of the venue - which is due to open later this year - was tested last week.

Interesting. I've been noticing increased light pollution myself recently. Around here they seem to either switch large installations (airports, sports stadiums, etc) on/off in small steps, or do it during daylight hours so there's no noticeable sudden change.

I think part of their long game could be to erase any semblance of the natural world. Block out the sun with chalk but light the night sky. Easier to keep an eye on everybody if it never gets dark.

Attenborough etc have now documented the natural world in Ultra HD. With the advances in technology, nobody needs nature anymore except through their VR subscription.

Once we haven't seen the stars and moon for a couple of years, there'll be less resistance to their adverts & other holographic projections onto the chalk layer. We'll also be more easily manipulated with no natural light sources to compare to.

Any "energy shortage" is entirely manufactured anyway. I think a possible way forward for us is to reduce our reliance on mains electricity and gas.

Regionally refined paraffin/heating oil is still available for a reasonable price if you have a local pump, although fewer places are stocking it as there's little demand. You can legally keep up to 30 litres (10 in plastic container + 20 in metal) without notifying the Petroleum Board, and in a metal container the stuff doesn't go stale quickly (unlike petrol or diesel which has long been sabotaged).

I travel the M6 every night early hours about 1am, the Ricoh arena in coventry is always fully lit up, I have never understood why. Never understood why they light some sections of motorways and not others, and a hell of alot of businesses leave there sign lights and internal lights on overnight.

  • 3 weeks later...

Was in sainsburys with my neighbour 18 years old lad. He says what the fucks all these TVs for on the aisles? When you look at energy usage it's a joke really..

Probably save more energy banning Christmas lights but they need their toxic end of year festival to keep everyone dreaming
