She set up the Gloag Foundation to support projects that "prevent or relieve poverty and encourage the advancement of education, health and religion in the UK and overseas". The foundation supports charities including Freedom from Fistula, a charity founded by Dame Ann, which supports women and children in Sierra Leone, Malawi and Madagascar. Very true. We are living at such polarized times though, that it is all helping us to see who is working for 'them' and who is working for 'the people'. Dame Ann was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2019, having been made an OBE in 2004. in recognition of her business and charitable work in the UK and overseas. Open Door Foundation says it provides "emergency shelter for victims of any form of human trafficking" and described Dame Ann a "long-time supporter and friend" who provided donations. The charity said her support helped it to directly assist 260 Ukrainian women, children and elderly men in 2021, all of whom were said to have been at high risk of being trafficked. Interesting. Then a year later in 2022, after Russia began attacking Ukraine, the 'Homes For Ukraine' scheme saw many Ukrainians being 'legally trafficked' into the UK.
